Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry

Draco wasn't sure what the etiquette around being in a secret relationship with one of your best friends was. There were some things he was clear on, like that he definitely couldn't try and hold Merlin's hand or anything in public, but was he allowed to tell some people? People like Pansy, who wouldn't tell anyone except maybe Thoreau? Or Romy? Romy could keep a secret too. He glanced at Merlin sitting beside him, and then at Thoreau, who was talking about some boy Romy'd met who'd swept her off her feet. At least he didn't have to hang out with his ex anymore. He let his hand drop under the table in the upscale pub they were hanging out in and hooked his fingers with Merlin's.

Thoreau knew he should be the last one to criticize someone for going after someone who was, more of less, a step-sibling, considering his extracurricular activities, but he loved Romy he did not get this at all. "He looks just like our step-dad," he said, shaking his head and then accepting the beer and chips that the waiter delivered to their table, wrapping an arm around Pansy's shoulder and pushing his chips towards her so she could steal some. "I mean, identical. I don't get it."

"Okay, okay." Draco held up his hands, letting go of Merlin's briefly. "No bickering," he said firmly. "I'm happy with the current state of my love life, but thank you, everyone, for your concern."

"It's not like you've ever had a girlfriend, Merlin," Thoreau pointed out, shrugging. "Pansy doesn't want to date any boy. She wants to date the right one. Nothing wrong with that."

Pansy thought she may date any boy who asked her, if she was honest. For some reason, all the boys in her life were gay. She ran a hand through her hair and shook her head. "Can we discuss something else, please?"

Merlin sighed and took a sip of his coffee. "I have a few friends who attend a different school than we do." He admitted. "Have any of you met Theodore Nott?"

"I've heard of the Notts," Draco admitted, after a moment. "They're a good family. I don't think I've met him before." He wasn't sure he liked the idea of Merlin having other friends. When had that happened?

"I've met him a couple of times," Thoreau said, nodding. "He's my second cousin once removed or something. Sometimes he's at my aunt and uncle's place when they have dinner parties." He looked at Pansy. "He's pretty cute in a suit."

Pansy felt even more pathetic now. "You three don't have to set me up with some boy. And I know your type, Thoreau. You've slept with Rex. You basically sleep with anything."

"I've already texted him." Merlin shrugged, looking Pansy over. "He said he's close to where we are and he'll be here in no time." He slid his hand under the table and touched Draco's knee.

Draco smiled when Merlin touched his knee. "Pansy, relax. It's just an introduction. This is how people meet each other. It's not like you want to go out clubbing and try and pull or something, right?"

Thoreau had slept with Rex, but so what? He frowned at Pansy a little, shifting away from her. "Not anything. I have some standards."

Theo hadn't been expecting the text from Merlin, but he was happy enough to stop by and get a drink with the other boy and his friends. Theo didn't have a problem getting along with most people. He pushed opened the door to the pub and walked inside, spotting Merlin across the room and walking over. "Hello," he said. "Who are your friends?"

Pansy gave Thoreau an apologetic look when he moved away from her. She slipped her hand into his for a moment and moved closer. Surely he had to know how upset she was about everyone talking about her not having a boyfriend. She looked up at the boy when he reached the table. He wasn't that cute. His hair was stupid and he was wearing pastels. He was probably gay like all the other boys she knew.

"This is Draco. And you know Thoreau." Merlin told his friend with a smile. "And this is Pansy Parkinson. There's a seat available beside her."

Theo raised an eyebrow at Merlin's statement, but took a seat next to the girl. "It's nice to meet you, Miss Parkinson," he said, nodding to her. "I haven't heard much about you. Merlin and I discuss schoolwork and politics more than anything else."

"How do you know each other?" Draco asked, glancing between the two of them. He was with Pansy. This kid wore too much pastel to be straight and apparently Merlin was hanging around him. "I'm curious."

"I met him in a club I joined last year." When he and Draco hadn't been talking. "A debate club. Theodore likes to argue everything with me and he's really good at it." He informed Draco, wondering why he was asking questions.

Pansy eyed Theodore for a moment. "You're wearing a pastel purple shirt." She pointed out. "With a yellow bow tie. Are you gay?"

Draco still didn't like it, but at least it didn't sound like Merlin knew there was a possibility Theo just wanted to fuck him. "Okay," he agreed. "I guess you wouldn't have had Pansy to argue with then. We weren't speaking. You missed her."

Theodore looked down at himself, then up and Pansy, laughing. "Gay?" he repeated. "No. Men can wear soft colours without being gay. Don't you think that's a narrow minded assumption for you to be making, jumping to conclusions about my sexuality based on the colour of my clothing?"

"I didn't miss her." Merlin frowned down at Draco. "And it was kind of stupid that you took all of my friends away from me like a bitch."

Pansy looked up at Theodore and frowned. "It is not a narrow minded assumption for me to make. Every boy I know is gay, except for Merlin. So. I'm left to assume that all men are gay. Especially ones that wear those clothes and that hair."

Draco frowned back at Merlin. "I didn't take all your friends from you, and even if I had done it on purpose, it's not like Pansy would have taken your side. You two are always bickering over me not giving one of you enough attention."

Theodore glanced at Merlin briefly and then looked at Pansy again. "My clothes and hair have nothing to do with who I like to shag," he said firmly. "I'm straight. Do you assume every girl who wears flannel is a lesbian too?"

"The only person who would talk to me was Lavinia and she's my sister." Merlin pointed out, brushing his fingers against Draco's thigh. "And Rowan, when he was over. But, then he'd just ask me why you and I were fighting."

"No. Of course not." Pansy frowned at Theodore, crossing her arms over her chest. "Do you see the way that Draco is dressed? He's the gayest boy I know. And you dress like him. I'm only pointing it out. You don't have to be so defensive like you're guilty."

"Which I'm going to assume you never told him, since he never came to me asking uncomfortable questions about our friendship," Draco said. He took a sip of his drink. "None of it matters anymore, right? Because we fixed it?"

"Defensive like I'm guilty?" Theodore repeated, laughing. "I'm not defensive like I'm guilty. I'm offended on behalf of people who are actually gay who have to deal with people saying things like that. If I wore black suits like Merlin, would that make me look straighter?"

"Right. We fixed it." Merlin nodded as he looked back at Draco. He wanted to kiss him to make sure he knew he wasn't angry, but he couldn't. "I have to go to the loo. I'll be right back." He got up and walked off.

"It would certainly keep you from looking like you belong in a barbershop quartet." Pansy informed him. "Or that you're two long ears short of being the Easter bunny."

Draco did his best not to look at Thoreau as he got up to follow Merlin to the loo after a few second. "I'll be back," he said, and made his way across the bar quickly. He pushed open the door to the loo and smiled at Merlin. "I hope you wanted me to follow you, because I did."

Theodore raised an eyebrow at Pansy. He didn't know why Merlin was friends with her, but she wasn't pleasant at all. She was lucky she was so pretty. "I see why the only men you're around are gay men if this is the way you talk to straight people."

"I did. Bitch." Merlin grinned and pushed Draco against the wall, kissing him deeply. "I just wanted you to know that I wasn't mad at you. And I wanted to kiss you and couldn't."

Pansy frowned at that. "I'm not normally this annoyed by someone." She informed him, crossing her arms over her chest. "I don't know why Merlin would send you here to talk to me. Probably because he doesn't like me very much. He wanted me to be miserable."

Draco kissed Merlin back, hands sliding up to mess in his hair. "Good," he said firmly. "I was pretty sure you weren't mad, but it's nice to have to confirmed for me. And I do appreciate the kissing."

"You're not exactly charming yourself," Theo said, frowning back at Pansy. "I was under the impression that my friend invited me here to spend time with him. This being about you is news to me."

Thoreau was sort of amused by Pansy and Theo arguing. He didn't know Theo that well, but it seemed like this would just been escalating between them if he didn't say something. "I think everyone needs to take a breath," he said. "I think Merlin thought you'd like each other. Obviously you both like arguing."

Merlin hummed softly against Draco's lip, pressing closer to Draco. "I'm glad you appreciate the kissing." He rubbed Draco through his trousers.

Pansy looked at Thoreau for a moment, then crossed her arms over her chest. "I'm just going to order cheesecake and ignore the both of you."

Draco pushed his hips against Merlin's hand, making a soft sound. "I appreciate that too," he promised, sliding a hand under Merlin's shirt. "Pansy and Thoreau and your friend are waiting for us." Draco kissed down Merlin's neck, nipping at his skin lightly. "You never fancied him, did you?"

"Pans." Thoreau wrapped his arm around her waist, tugging her closer and pressing his lips to her ear, kissing at it to try and get her to soften towards him. "Don't be grumpy with me. I'll make you cheesecake this weekend if you want."

Theodore ordered himself a beer. He needed a drink. He watched Thoreau feel up Pansy for a moment. "I thought he was supposed to be gay?"

"Fancy Theodore?" Merlin wrinkled his nose. "No. He's my friend, but you know how much I hate when people argue with me. And he's almost as bad as Pansy on that."

Pansy sighed softly and pushed at Thoreau before she kissed him on the lips. "He is gay. That's why he's getting away with what he's doing right now." She informed Theodore and then ordered herself a piece of chocolate and strawberry cheesecake.
