Romy was kind of nervous as she rode in the cab to the house Walden had given her the address too. He really didn't live that far from her mother and Step-Dad. She chewed at her bottom lip and fiddled with the basket of sweets she'd gotten Rex to bake, vegan style.

When the man stopped, she got out of the cab and paid him, then walked to the door. She was going to make a nice impression on his family. They'd like her and she'd be their daughter in law some day.

Walden had pictures this meeting going a lot better. He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Mum, I really don't think... I mean, I think he's different now that he was before, and Romy is his daughter. I was just curious. I was only going to see him the once and then go."

Arabella didn't like this either. She frowned at Romy. "Your father is not a good man," she said, shaking her head. "He raped my daughter when she wasn't much older than you are now. We never wanted Walden to have anything to do with him. Walden is a good boy. He doesn't need an influence like that in his life."

Romy hadn't known that. She hadn't known those things about her Daddy, but he was still a good man. He loved her. He loved her father. He had raised her and gave her everything she wanted.

She looked at Walden for a moment, blinking away tears. "I think I should go." She said, her voice tight. "I don't think they want me here."

Walden knew they didn't. He gave Romy a sad look. "I'll come with you," he said. "We can go to your mother's house. I can walk you."

Arabella didn't think Walden should go with this girl, but if they don't him no it would just make him like her more. "Be home for dinner," she said firmly. "We'll be expecting you, Walden."

Romy was doing her best to hold it together. She didn't want to break down in front of the two women who apparently hated her. She'd never had anyone who didn't like her before. These women didn't have a good reason to even hate her.

"It was nice meeting you." Romy told them in a quiet, hurt voice and then walked out of the room quickly. She didn't wait for Walden. She walked straight outside and let herself go, bursting at the seams.
