Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry

Pansy wasn't expecting company. No one ever really came to see her unless they were having a crisis, but as far as she knew, he friends were completely fine. Happy even. Then again, they were all always much more happy than she was. She was kind of miserable, especially now that everyone around her seemed to have a steady companion.

So, when the maid came to tell her that someone was at the door, Pansy was a bit surprised. She looked herself over in the mirror and smoothed her dress down, tucking a piece of stray hair that had fallen back up. She walked to the door and gave an odd look when Theodore Nott stood on the other side. "... Hello."

"Fine," Theodore said. "Tell me what you want to do with your life. Besides eat cheesecake." He leaned back in his chair as their drinks were delivered to them. "Although I heartily approve of your passion for cheesecake. I'd rather spend time with a girl who eats than one who's constantly picking at her food."

He fixed his cup of tea with a squeeze of lemon, then took a sip. "You can ask me whatever you'd like. I'm an open book."

Pansy snorted at that. "I do watch what I eat. But, cheesecake is my only vice. I can't help it. It's just so good." She paused. "And macrons, but we won't get into that."

She took a drink of the juice that was delivered for her and arched a brow. "That's very loaded. I could ask you anything." She pointed out. "Are you sure you don't want to take that back?"

"No," Theodore said, shrugging. "Anything. As long as you actually answer my question as well. I don't have anything I'm ashamed of and I trust you to be tactful enough not to ask traumatizing questions about my dead mother."

He raised an eyebrow at her. "So? What do you want to know?"

"I don't know you well enough to ask traumatizing questions about your mother." Pansy pointed out, snorting. "Not yet, at least. Those will come in time, when I've learned more about you."

She hummed thoughtfully. "Do you hit on girls very often, Theodore? Pick them up randomly and take them to lunch?"

"No, I don't," Theo said, shrugging simply. "I hit on girls often enough, but I don't normally take them out to lunch. Usually I find a girl I like at a party or when I'm out at a pub with friends and I hit on them there."

He took a sip of his tea. "You still haven't told me what you want to do with your life. I'm starting to feel like you're avoiding the question."

Pansy thought about the question. She didn't know what she wanted to do with her life. She wasn't Lavinia and she wasn't Pyxis. She was just... Pansy. A girl with absolutely no idea what she wanted to do.

"I'm sixteen." Pansy answered simply, looking back at Theodore. "I'm much too young to be overly obsessed and thinking about what I want to do with my life. Besides, I'm not sure I'm particularly good at anything other than getting my way. You'll learn that about me. I should go into politics, honestly. I'm good at scheming, but I'm sure that can be applied to better jobs."

"That's fair enough," Theo agreed. "Although I'm only a year older than you and I know what I'm going to be doing. I'll be taking over my father's company. I'm the third generation of Nott running Nott Industries."

He looked up as their food was delivered, smiling at Pansy's cheesecake. "Your lunch looks good. I don't think there's anything wrong with politics, as a career. You and Merlin could take your animosity to the next level."

Nott Industries. That was something Pansy had heard about. She had heard the owner, Theodore Nott, was a vicious man with no sense of love and compassion. She wondered if it was true. She looked at Theodore for a moment and then shrugged.

"I'd rather see Merlin end up in jail." Pansy pointed out. "What's your father like? I've heard things."

"Nothing good, I'm sure," Theodore said. He thought about the question as he picked up his sandwich, taking a bite from it. His relationship with his father wasn't the best, but they hadn't troubled each other very much lately. Theo didn't think of himself as someone with daddy issues. "He's not a warm man, but he's not inhuman either. He's vicious in business, that's true."

He shrugged. "I didn't spent much time with him growing up, if I'm being honest. We check in on each other a few times a year. We're not close. What about your parents? I didn't notice them in your flat."

Pansy shrugged at that. She didn't have a good relationship with her parents. "They're..." She shrugged again, trying not to look too bothered by it. Even if it broke her sometimes knowing her parents didn't care about her.

"Let's just say, the Malfoy's raised me." Pansy told him quietly. "It's not a big deal."

Theo wouldn't pry. He'd basically asked Pansy not to talk about his mother. He could respect her boundaries as well. He nodded. "I understand," he said. "I had nannies instead of Malfoy's."

He took another bite of his sandwich. "How are they, really?" he asked. "The papers love them for being scandalous, but who are they when they're at home?"

Pansy looked up at Theodore suspiciously. Why was he interested in the Malfoys? Was that why he'd asked her on a date? Because he thought she'd spill all their secrets and he could tell the tabloids about them. She frowned at the thought.

"They're normal." Pansy informed him, shrugging. "They're nice people. They're sweet people. They'd do anything for the people they love or who they befriend."

"I wasn't asking because I was planning on selling their story," he promised her. "I don't condone tabloid news. I'm asking so I get to know you better. If they raised you, and this goes well, eventually I assume I'm going to have to meet them."

He smiled at her. "I like your suspicions though. You're smart. The problem with trying to date girls you meet at parties and pubs is that they're usually not."

Pansy shrugged at that. "Most of the girls you date aren't Pansy Parkinson." She informed him, looking him over. "They haven't had to watch where they step their entire lives. They're probably people who would sell to tabloids. Maybe you should watch yourself more."

She took a bite of her cheesecake and eyed him. "Stop dating bimbos and whores that you fall into bed with."

"They probably would, if the tabloids were interested in Notts," Theodore agreed. "I'm not gay and I don't have a fashionable sister. I've never dated an it girl before. I highly doubt there's a tabloid out there who'd take a story about me and some random girl, unless it was entirely made up. I'm not that scandalous."

He laughed at Pansy's advice, shrugging. "Good idea," Theo said. "Why do you think I'm here with you instead?"

"Definitely not a bimbo or a whore. Considering I'm a virgin." Pansy pointed out as she pulled out her phone and began to look up things on her phone, then put her phone down in front of him.

"Pansy Parkinson goes on lunch date with mysterious, dark man." She informed him. "They'll have your name by the hour."

"Mysterious, dark man sounds like you're on a date with Blaise and they thought they were being tactful by not saying black." Theo laughed at that, picking her phone up so he could get a better look at the story. He shook his head. "I'm surprised they got it up so fast."

He handed Pansy back her phone. "I don't mind," Theo said. "It's not my favourite thing, but you're the one who's had to put up with it all her life."

"You'd be surprised how fast they can get stories up." Pansy told him with a casual shrug. "But, if you choose to go on another date with me, or more than even just one more, you'll have to put up with this."

She looked him over. "I'm not sure I want to subject you to that or not. I've never had a boyfriend."

"Shouldn't it be my decision?" Theodore asked. "Since I'd be the one who it was a new experience for? I like spending time with you, Pansy. You've been excellent company so far and I don't give up easily."

He nodded to the photographers lurking outside the bistro, visible through the window. "Do you want to leave out the back so they have less photos to publish?"

"There's a chance they'll be in the back as well." Pansy told him with a soft sigh, then shrugged. "It doesn't matter. They'll find things to publish anyway."

She ran her hands over her dress and then finished her cheesecake off. "Do you really want that?"

"What? To try and leave by the back, or to try and date you?" Theo wasn't sure what he wanted. They still didn't know each other very well. He knew he was a closed off person and Pansy seemed like she was the same way. Of course she was, with the way photographers stalked her.

"Yes," he said. "To the dating. I think it'll be a challenge for both of us, but you seem like a girl who can handle a challenge."

Pansy looked up at Theodore. She wasn't sure about this at all. About dating. Especially bringing an outsider into her world. It seemed dangerous.

"Before I can say yes, Lucius has to approve of you." Pansy told him. "Dinner. Tomorrow night."
