Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry

Dudley's life was going good. Walden was still a bit depressed, which sucked because he was Dudley's best mate, but Walden was carrying on with his life and Romy had almost convinced him to start dating. Dudley had gotten into some pretty decent universities. Life was good.

Especially since he had a sweet, pretty girlfriend who'd made him a special dinner to celebrate his three acceptance letters. "I'm thinking I'll go to Greenwich," Dudley said. "It's in London so we'll still be close. Chichester and Southampton Solent aren't that far away either. Just a bit of a train journey."

Rabastan smiled at Walden when he came in. "It's not a problem. I'll love having you here for the weekend." He promised him, then reached out and hugged him tight to his chest, patting his back.

"I don't blame you for wanting to stay somewhere else for a while. I know how Lestranges are. I am one myself." Rabastan informed Walden. "I have a sound proof bedroom, though."

Walden laughed at that, feeling a bit bad that he'd basically just told Romy's father she was having a ton of loud sex. "Yeah, but they're both really good friends. I don't mind the noise that much."

He hugged Rabastan back for a moment, then pulled away, looking around the house. "Where am I staying?" he asked. "I can help out around the house, if you'd like. I don't want to put you out."

"We have two spare rooms, since Romy never comes home. Romy's and Rider's rooms are both available. You can turn Rider's room into your own room for whenever you want to stay here. If you want. No pressure."

Rabastan smiled. "I've been practicing cooking vegan for you. Thoreau and I found a couple of recipes."

"I don't want to take over Rider's space. What if he comes home?" Walden asked, smiling at Rabastan. "But his room sounds like a good place to stay. I think I'm probably too big for Romy's furniture."

He gave him a surprised look. "You're going to cook vegan for me?" he repeated. "That's really nice. I thought I'd just feed myself, but... thank you. Pyxis was way better at it than I am."

"Rider's not coming home. Rider's in love with a Lestrange." Rabastan pointed out as he looked at Walden. "It's a proven fact that once a Macnair falls in love, especially with a Lestrange, they never leave their side."

Rabastan smiled and pulled out a container of fake chicken he'd gotten from the store. "It doesn't even have any animal product in it. I checked."

Walden's smile faded when Rabastan mentioned being in love with a Lestrange. He did love Pyxis. He'd wanted to stay together. "I guess I'm not much of a Macnair then," he said. "I've always been happy being a Figg though, I guess."

He looked at the fake chicken. "Pyxis always liked that brand when we were looking for fake meat."

Rabastan hadn't thought about Walden and Pyxis, but now he felt bad. He shook his head. "The two of you will end up together again. You are a Macnair. She had to leave because of unfortunate circumstances. My brother has been a sick man for a long time."

He looked down at the pack of chicken. "You miss her, don't you?" He asked, placing a hand on Walden's shoulder.

"Yeah, of course," Walden said, looking up at Rabastan. "I miss her. I just... I'm always going to miss her." He ran a hand through his hair. "I'm in love with her and I'm not sure she's coming back. I'm not sure she's waiting for me."

He shrugged, looking down at the chicken too. "It seems silly to pretend like we're going to end up together when I know the chances aren't very good."

"You can't think like that. I think the chances are pretty good." Rabastan told him with a warm smile. He squeezed Walden's shoulder. "I didn't think I was going to end up with your father. He disappeared for a long time and came back to me."

Rabastan leaned against the counter. "You have to keep positive thoughts. Romy talks to her every so often. Ask Romy what she's up to. Or, you can try dating while she's gone."

Walden didn't want to date other girls. He'd found Pyxis. Why did he need other girls? "Romy wants me to try dating," he admitted. "She's going to take me to a club. I don't want anyone else though. Only Pyxis."

He pouted a bit, even if it was pathetic. "I love her."

"I know that you do, Wallie. I'm sorry." Rabastan's own heart hurt and this wasn't even his problem. Walden was kind of his son and he wanted to help take care of him.

He sighed softly. "I don't even know how to contact Pyxis anymore. She got a new number. Do you want me to call Rider? He said he was living with her."

Rabastan was nice and Walden liked him a lot, but he didn't want to make Pyxis uncomfortable. "No," he said. "Pyxis would call me if she wanted to talk to me. I don't want to push her."

He hesitated for a moment. "I mean... I think she would call me at least. She knows I'm still living in our flat."

Romy looked Walden over and straightened out his shirt and his blazer. "You look really good, Wallie. And as your friend, I'm making you go out. You've had a year to sulk." She kissed his cheek and glanced at Dudley.

"Did you tell him?" Romy asked, looking at Dudley. Was it a good idea to tell Walden that Pyxis was pregnant with Rider's baby for Rex?

Dudley wasn't sure it was a good idea at all, but maybe if Walden knew some of Pyxis's personal life he'd feel a bit better. Or at least for able to get over her. "Pyxis is pregnant," he said.

Walden stared at Dudley for a moment, heart dropping into his stomach. "She -- pregnant?" he repeated. He looked down at Romy, eyes wide with disappointment. "She's pregnant?"

"Not in the way you're thinking, no." Romy shook her head and looked up at Walden. "She's having a baby for Rex and Rider. They're... practically married now or something like that. Apparently they got drunk in Mexico and decided to have a baby."

Romy looked up at Walden's sad eyes. "She loves you, Walden. She's just busy with work."

Busy with work. Busy with having a baby for her brother and his boyfriend. Walden straightening out his jacket again. "She hasn't called me once. I would have called her a million times if I had her number."

He looked at Romy for a moment, then sighed. "Okay. Let's do this," he said. "Let's go to the club. I'll try and meet a girl."

Romy sat at the bar and sipped at her drink, watching Walden walking around the club and looking at girls. She felt so bad for him. He looked like a giant, lost puppy. Like... Clifford.

She glanced at Dudley. "Does he look as miserable as I think he does? Maybe you should be his wingman."
