Dudley had never been to New York before, but he and Romy were going to America to visit Rex and Rider and their baby. Romy had been wanting to do it for ages and Dudley had saved up the money and surprised her with plane tickets for her birthday, so now they were doing Christmas in New York City. There was a baby and gay porn stars involved, but it was still going to be the most romantic trip ever. Dudley was counting on it.

He was all bundled up in his winter coat and scarf as he and Romy rode the lift up to the top of the Empire State Building. "Are you going to be warm enough at the top?" he asked, looking down at his girlfriend who he was about to try and make his fiance. "I could give you my scarf."

"She better not be shagging a waiter. I specifically made her a bridesmaid at my wedding so she'd have to see Walden again." Romy informed Rider, looking up at him, She reached up and straightened his bowtie. "You look adorable. Is Xavier practicing his ring boy duties?"

There was a weird, tingling feeling in Pyxis's stomach as she looked back at Walden. He looked... Well. He was gorgeous, just like he'd always been. And it wasn't fair. She opened her mouth to reply, but no words came out. All she could do was nod and slip on her other shoe as she walked out the door.

"He has been," Rider said. "You've got me in the bridal party so I have no idea what he's doing right now. He's over with Dudley and Rex and Walden. He's smitten with you. I'm sure he'll do you proud. Are you sure pushing Walden and Pyxis together again is a good idea? She travels a lot."

Walden wasn't sure why Pyxis wasn't talking to him. Was she mad? He looked down at her as they walked, clearing his throat a bit. "So... I know you've been traveling. Where was your last adventure?"

"Walden is in love with her, even if he has dated other girls." And she couldn't remember if he was dating anyone currently, but that didn't matter. It was Pyxis. "We all just want our true loves, don't we?" She smoothed her dress down. "Remember when you and I would play wedding? We had it all planned out."

Pyxis wasn't sure she could actually talk to Walden without throwing up. It had been years since she'd even spoken to him. And he'd never texted her when she'd gotten her new phone. "I... Well. I literally just flew in from Madrid where I've been living for two months in a bus with Loras. I had to drop him off at the hotel room I got before I came, which is why I'm so late."

"Well, I most played wedding with you because you let me kiss you at the end of the game," Rider told Romy. "And sometimes I got to touch you a bit. If you were in a good mood and Walden wasn't around to smack me for doing it. You're really getting married now though."

Loras. Walden grinned at that. "I bet he's gotten huge since I last saw him," he said. "He's been having all these adventures. Do you think maybe I could see him again?" Had he just asked to come up to her hotel room. "I mean... I... that's probably a weird thing to ask, I'm sorry."

Romy looked up at Rider and smiled at him. "I'm really getting married to someone I love very much." She admitted, then let out a soft sigh. "And... Well. I think I'm pregnant. Pregnant at my wedding. How Lestrange of me."

Had Walden just asked to come back to her room after the wedding? It wasn't as if she was going to say no. Pyxis didn't want to say no. "It's okay. You can come see him. Loras has gotten very big and he's a very prissy little prince." She chewed at her bottom lip. "How have you been? No one has told me anything about you."

Rider gave Romy a surprised look. "Fuck," he said. "Walden would kill Dudley if he knew. What happened to waiting?" He looked at Romy's stomach for a long moment. "You can't tell yet," he promised. "Still flat."

"They haven't?" Walden was a bit disappointed to hear that. Did that mean Pyxis hadn't been asking? "I've been good," he said. "Pretty good, yeah. I'm almost done my teaching course. I'm at a school now doing my practicum. It's really great. I love what I'm doing, you know? It's a good feeling."

"I'm not that pregnant. It's not a Macnair child." Romy pointed out as she looked at Rider. "I don't care about waiting. Sometimes plans change. I haven't told Dudley yet, but I know that he'll be just as happy as I am. Besides, I blame you and your adorable son."

Pyxis smiled weakly at that. Walden had gotten to do everything that he wanted to do and she hadn't. She'd never be an investigator. "That's fantastic, Walden. I'm glad for you." She touched his hand and stopped walking. "At least you're doing what you love. I mostly just travel on a bus with my cat. I live on beaches in tents and give all the money I earn from the country to my Mum and charity."

Rider snorted at that. "My adorable son is going to throw a fit when we go back home," he informed Romy. "He wanted to live with you. He was telling us all about how he was going to marry you too when he got older on the plane ride."

Walden smiled at that. "Your life sounds amazing," he said, shaking his head. "I'm always asking after you. I annoy Romy, but I know she talks to Rex and Rider a lot, you know? I just... I know you stopped answering my texts for whatever reason. Maybe I was being too clingy. It would be really nice if we could keep in touch again though. I miss you."

Romy laughed softly at that and nodded. "Well. Perhaps I'll have a boy or girl that he likes when he's older." She told him. "And they can be together instead."

Pyxis looked up at Walden and frowned, shaking her head. "You weren't clingy. When I moved to the States, I had to get a new number and a new service. I gave my number to Rider to give to you, but I thought that you just didn't want to talk to me anymore when you didn't text." She chewed at her bottom lip. "We can keep in touch. Let's find Romy."

Walden blinked at that. "I never got your new number," he said. "I think maybe Rider decided not to give it to me." But Pyxis was okay with keeping in touch. And she hadn't purposefully ignored him for the past few years. He smiled down at her, leading the way to Romy's room and knocking on the door.

"Don't marry my kid to your kid too fast," he said. "They're some kind of cousin anyway." He got to his feet when someone knocked on the door. "I told you Pyxis would show," he said, pulling it open. He raised an eyebrow when he saw Walden there too. "We only need one more bridesmaid and she's got the dress on, Wallie."

Romy was married. She was actually married and no longer Romy Lestrange, but Romy Dursley. She smiled as she looked down at the ring on her finger, then at Dudley, who was sitting at the table beside her. "How happy are you?" She asked, taking his hand into her own.

Pyxis wasn't sure how to feel. She was sitting at a table with Rex and Rider, who were both fussing about letting Xavier go off on his own and play with some of the other kids who were there. She sighed to herself, then spotted Walden, deciding she wanted to talk to him. "Hey. Do you want to dance? Or drink out of boredom?"

"Ecstatic," Dudley said, grinning at Romy and leaning in to kiss her again. "We're married. Husband and wife. It's the best night of my life." He poured himself another glass of champagne. "You haven't touched your champagne yet tonight."

Walden looked down at Pyxis and laughed a bit. He'd had a couple beers and was feeling a bit braver than he had earlier in the day. "Tired of playing with the dads?" he asked. "I'd love to dance and then drink with you, if you want." He offered her his hand. "I'll try not to step on your feet too much."

Romy looked at her champagne and smiled at him. "I don't think I should really be drinking tonight. Or any night. For a while." She gave Dudley a pointed look, then grinned.

"Please. Both you and I know that you're going to step on my feet." Pyxis told him as she led him out to the dance floor. "The dad's aren't so bad. I was stuck with them for a year while I was carrying Xavier."
