Dudley had never been to New York before, but he and Romy were going to America to visit Rex and Rider and their baby. Romy had been wanting to do it for ages and Dudley had saved up the money and surprised her with plane tickets for her birthday, so now they were doing Christmas in New York City. There was a baby and gay porn stars involved, but it was still going to be the most romantic trip ever. Dudley was counting on it.

He was all bundled up in his winter coat and scarf as he and Romy rode the lift up to the top of the Empire State Building. "Are you going to be warm enough at the top?" he asked, looking down at his girlfriend who he was about to try and make his fiance. "I could give you my scarf."

Walden held Pyxis close to his chest, kissing her softly. "I love you too," he promised. "Don't cry, Pyxis. Please don't say loving me makes you cry. I'll cry too."

He picked her up again, carrying her to the couch and sitting with her in his laugh, kissing at her cheeks to try and make the tears go away. Walden laughed when the cats piled on top of them and the couch, trying to comfort Pyxis too. "My children have adopted you. Did you see I have a photo of you on my wall too? They probably recognize you." He turned so he could point to the photo of Pyxis sticking her tongue out at him.

"You're still hot now," Walden promised. He looked down at her, shaking his head bit. "We don't want completely different things, Pyxis. I know you don't want to change your life. I don't want to change mine either. But we can keep in touch, right? And in a couple months I'm off for the summer. We could see each other again."

He gave her a hopeful look. "Maybe we could go to Bamboo Island together. I've always wanted to go to Thailand."

Pyxis looked back at Walden sadly. "We can keep in touch and we can say all we want, but is it really going to work?" She asked him quietly, shaking her head. "Is it really all going to pan out how we want it?"

She ran her fingers through her hair, feeling hopeless. "I'm never going to want to settle down into a boring life. Not now. Not after everything I've done. Even if I had kids, I'd want to homeschool them and travel with them."

Walden liked being a teacher a lot, but Pyxis had wanted to be an inspector and she'd found a new life. One she was more than happy with. One she didn't want to leave behind. "I'm a teacher," he pointed out. "I could give them a good education."

He brushed his fingers through Pyxis's hair and leaned in, kissing her softly. "We can think about it later. Now that we've found each other again we have time to work everything out." If he decided to leave his job, he couldn't go with Pyxis until the summer. "Can we enjoy this? Being close again? Having cat children piled on top of us?"

"I'm sorry. Of course we can." Pyxis lied. It wasn't okay and she wasn't going to be able to sit in his lap and not worry about him getting attatched to her. She didn't want him to ruin his life just because he was in love with a nomad.

Pyxis kissed him softly and slid her hands under his shirt. "Show me your bedroom, Wallie." She whispered. "Where cat's can't pile on us."

Walden picked Pyxis up again, carrying her across the flat to his bedroom, shedding cats as they went. He closed the door behind them before the cats could get in and put Pyxis down on the bed. "You need to chose a shirt to take with you."

He stripped the one he was wearing off, then kissed her again, pressing her down on the bed. "This is my bedroom," he said, kissing down Pyxis's neck and pushing her shirt up. "I don't show it to many people."

Pyxis laughed at that and kissed Xavier's cheek. "It's okay. Daddy is an adult. He can say dirty words all that he wants." She told him with a laugh, running her fingers through her hair.

She looked up at Rider and sighed. "I don't want to hurt him. You know?" She shook her head. "I'll worry about it later."

Later came way too fast. Pyxis left her phone behind as she took off to travel to Thailand. By the time she was three months pregnant, Pyxis didn't know what to do. She was living on Bamboo Island and living off the land.

Romy looked at Dudley, letting out a soft sigh as she did. "We have to tell him." Her voice was low. Walden was just in the other room. "I know it's not our place, but she's being stupid and rash."

Dudley chewed on his bottom look as he looked Romy over. "I don't know. It's her decision, isn't it?" Then again, Romy was pregnant with him around and she had trouble sometimes. Pyxis was living by herself on an island in the middle of Thailand and didn't have anyone to help her.

"You're right," he said, running a hand through his hair. "It's Walden's baby too. Do you want to tell him? Should we do it together?"

Walden blinked at Romy for a moment, the cup of tea slipping from his hands. "You -- she's pregnant?" he repeated. "Shit, I..." He looked at the tea on the floor, hurrying to try and clean it up.

"I'll get it," Dudley said, waving Walden up and grabbing some tissues to mop up the tea. He picked up the cup and sauce, putting them on the table. "She got pregnant the night of our wedding, according to our math."

Walden was just... staring at them. Pyxis was pregnant. Pregnant with his baby. "Why didn't she tell me? Why did she just stop talking to me?" He got to his feet. "I need to go. I need to find her."

Walden didn't like the sound of that at all, even if he knew Rider was probably mangling things in translation. "That --" He ran a hand through his hair, trying to calm himself down. "Fuck. I think I have the money. I'm not sure. I was saving for a ticket before she stopped talking to me."

He ran his hands over his face. "God." Living on a beach. Eating what she found. Walden paused, looking up at Romy and Dudley again. "I know where she is. She's on Bamboo Island."

Pyxis wasn't doing horribly on her own on the Island. She was still able to travel by boat to find food if she couldn't find anything on the island. And there were other people who were staying there too and they were helping her out.

She was laying on her side in her tent, eating a fruit salad and reading a book, feeling comfortable. She wouldn't and couldn't ruin Walden's life.

Walden had had a long journey to Bamboo Island from the airport. He'd been on buses and the back of scooters. He'd been on boats and he'd walked. A lot. But he'd fallen in love with the place over the course of the two days it had taken him to get there and he was already thinking about how nice it would be to just... stay.

He followed the directions he was given to Pyxis's tent, feeling very nervous about this. Walden didn't want her to be mad at him. He just wanted to surprise her. Like a good surprise. Walden stopped in front of Pyxis's tent, clearing his throat. "Pyxis?"
