Christina was counting on Evan and Narcissa to be nice and not text her too much today. Granted, she should probably have given up on that already, but if she was going to hang her phone over to the Headmaster from now on, she needed to have some hope that the two of them would behave themselves. Mostly she was worried Evan would text her about how she was hot for teacher and then her life would be hell. Or maybe Headmaster Riddle would be so embarrassed by it that he'd forget the whole phone confiscation thing.

She knocked on the door to his office, digging around in her bag to find her phone. Maybe she'd built up his attractiveness in her mind and actually she didn't have any unnatural desire to bone a member of the faculty.

"Well. I'll make sure that I send him a text back, explaining that he's an arse." Tom promised her as he took her phone and looked at it. "I'll make sure he doesn't do it again."

He smiled at her. "You're here earlier than I expected you to be. I'm sorry that I'm not put together yet."

Christina laughed nervously, really hoping that Tom was joking and that he wasn't actually planning on texting Evan back. If he saw the kinds of things Evan was capable of, she would have to convince her parents public school was a great place for teenage girls. "He's my brother. It's his job to be an arse."

She shrugged, looking Tom over. "You look good," she said. "I mean, you're not a mess. You don't need to apologise. I am early."

"I'm an only child." Tom told her with a grin. "I was an orphan, actually. I grew up with other kids, but didn't much like them. I suppose I don't understand brothers and their need to be rude to their sisters."

Tom smiled at that. "Thank you, Miss Rosier. You are very well put together yourself." He ran a hand through his hair, fixing it. "Do you always come to school this early?"

"You were an orphan?" Christina asked, surprised. It was probably rude to ask about someone's horrible childhood without parents, but it was interesting. How often did you meet one in real life? "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound so excited about that. It's just unusual."

She smoothed a hand down the front of her uniform. "Yes," she admitted. "Evan walks me here on his way to school. He goes to public school, so we have to leave home early and I end up here before everyone else."

"Yes. I was an orphan." Tom laughed softly at the way she'd asked. He knew it was uncommon. "My father was..." How did you tell someone that your father had raped your teenage mother and left her to have a child on her own in a catholic family? You didn't. "It's a complicated story, but my mother died shortly after putting me up for adoption."

Tom nodded at that. "I sometimes have breakfast here." He told her. "I bring it in from the cafe down the street. You're welcome to have some juice and pastries with me."

"I'm sorry," Christina said, feeling a bit like whatever she chose to say would end up being the wrong thing. Why had she asked? There was no such thing as a happy orphaning story. "It must have been hard, growing up like that. I don't think I'd know what to do if I didn't have Evan. We're twins. He's like my other half."

Was having breakfast with your hot Headmaster weird? Christina wasn't sure she cared. "Maybe I'll show up in time the next time I drop off my phone," she said, smiling at Tom. "It sounds much better than waiting for Narcissa to get here."

"A boy and girl twin. That's rare as well." Tom told her with a smile, looking her over. "You don't have to apologise, Christina. You are a student. You're allowed to be curious about things and ask questions."

Tom rolled his eyes. "Narcissa. She and Lucius get talked about quite a bit, don't they?" He asked. "I hope she doesn't text you too much through out the day."

"She probably will," Christina said. "She knows I got my phone taken away. I think she and Evan have been planning on spamming it all weekend, honestly. They think it's hilarious that the Headmaster is going to have my phone during school now."

She raised an eyebrow at Tom. "Do you know Lucius? They only get talked about so much because Narcissa likes to talk about them. Less so, recently."

"I know Lucius. We run in the same circles." Tom had worked for his father for a while. When he was younger and was desperate for work. And did anything to push himself ahead. He smiled at her.

"His father helped me go to University so I could become a teacher. But, I was hired as a Headmaster instead." He told her. "That's how you get ahead in life. Knowing people."

"Well, I know Lucius's future wife. If my parents were interested in me doing anything besides marrying well, they'd probably be happy about that connection," Christina said, and rolled her eyes. "Evan gave them a big speech about how he's never going to marry anyone this summer and suddenly they need to get a ring on my finger."

She gestured around the office. "But that's sort of why they send me to this school while Evan goes to public school. We own our vineyard and we do well enough, but it's nothing compared to most of the other girls here. They want me to make connections."

Tom shook his head. "I don't know how I feel about a girl of your age being engaged. I'm thirty-five and I've never been married. It never interested me before. I've always thought about getting myself ahead instead of worrying about a woman to cook my meals."

He tapped his fingers against his desk. "I mean, I could hire a maid for that. It would be nice to have a woman around to talk to, I suppose. But, I wouldn't want her to do any housework. Maybe even have her own career. Be some powerful woman. You know?"

"Good thing," Christina said, laughing. "It's not the sixties anymore. Women want to work outside the house. The worst part of the whole marriage thing is my parents expecting me to be some pretty little housewife like Narcissa is being molded into. I have no interest in that."

She shrugged. "I'm going to run the vineyard with Evan. He likes doing the dirty work, but not the books. I'm the one who's good with numbers. And girls my age shouldn't be engaged. Narcissa's parents are crazy."

"I think I'd heard that your parents owned a vineyard. I wasn't sure." Tom admitted as he looked her over. "I think it's a good thing to have dreams and to try and fulfill them. I understand wanting to be happy with your life."

He smiled at her. "Narcissa's entire family is crazy. Except for the Andromeda one, but she did marry poor."

Christina nodded, smiling at Tom. "You've done really well for yourself," she pointed out. "You're Headmaster of a very prestigious school. I want to be able to look back on what I've done and feel impressed with myself too."

She laughed, tucking a bit of hair behind her ear. "Andromeda might as well not exist anymore, the way Narcissa's family acts. Narcissa's not as snobby as they are though. Not yet, anyway."

"I'm sure that she'll grow into her snobbery. Her mother wasn't as snobby when she was sixteen." Tom told her, shaking his head. "We all went to school together. I know them."

He glanced at his coffee pot, then got up and poured himself a cup. "Would you like one?"

"Really?" Christina raised an eyebrow at that. "They must have been older than you, though. I suppose Narcissa's family is pushing her to get married and start having children early, though, so maybe not."

She smiled when he offered her coffee, nodding in agreement. "Yes, please. I'd like to think that Narcissa having my brother and me for friends will help keep her grounded."

"Just a little bit older than me. They're only thirty eight to forty." Tom told her with a shrug. "I think Narcissa's mother in particular was only fifteen when she had Andromeda. And she was already married."

He tapped his fingers against the desk and sighed. "I've never understood the want for a child."

Christina took a sip from her cup of coffee. "No wonder her mum is so crazy. Getting married and having kids so young. Her parents must have basically sold her to her husband."

She shook her head. "I get wanting kids. Especially if you have a family business. Evan's gay. If I don't want the vineyard to go to some stranger, it's basically on me to reproduce."

"So, you want a kid? Or you need a kid?" Tom asked as he looked back at her, smiling. "I always kind of wanted a son so I could name him Merlin. I've always liked the name."

He walked back to his chair and sat down with his coffee. "You're a very beautiful girl, Christina. I'm sure it won't be hard to find a husband."

"Both, I suppose," Christina said, after thinking it over for a moment. "I think I'd be okay at being a Mum. Needing a kid is almost the same thing as wanting one."

She laughed, sitting on the edge of one of the chair across from Tom as she drank her own coffee. "I'm not that worried about husband hunting yet," she said. "Merlin's a nice name. Very regal."

"I suppose my main concern is fucking up a child. I see teens in my office every day." Tom told her with a shrug. "And I've seen what their parents have done to them. Like the Bulstrode girl."

He shrugged. "I just don't want to let a kid grow up and feel like I felt."
