"Are you sure this is worth the trouble you're going to get yourself into?" Remus asked, looking around at the people crowding Sirius's mother's house. He thought they might actually know about half of them. The rest were all strangers, but when you made your end of summer party a public facebook event, this was what happened.

James slung an arm around Remus's shoulder, grinning at him. He's already consumed quite a bit of whiskey, but that was okay. Everything was wonderful and okay. "Moony, you are being so Moony," he said. "We start school tomorrow. We have to have a party. We have to have the best party. My parents won't let us have one in our house. Sirius's mother is in Paris. It's perfect. Where's Reggie? We'll get him drunk and he'll black out and won't remember to tell on us. Fool proof."

"No, no," James said, shaking his head. "Deer are super graceful. They're these pretty little animals with tiny ankles who dance around the forest like they're fairies or something."

"But this party is so fun," Narcissa told Sirius, frowning up at him. "What are you doing wrong? Boys keep handing me drinks. I lost my friends, but we were dancing earlier."

Remus looked up at Regulus and gave him a small smile. They had a truce based on the fact that they both thought Sirius and James were idiots, although Remus thought it with a lot more affection than Regulus did. "James is dancing with Lily and Sirius is around somewhere," he said. "Probably snogging someone."

Lily laughed at that and shook her head. James was an idiot. "How many deer have you seen wandering around the forests and dancing like fairies? Disney movies don't count."

"Boys are handing you drinks because they want to get you drunk so you pass out." Sirius told her. "And then they'll rape you. You need to stop drinking."

"He's with Narcissa." Regulus pointed out his brother and looked around his house with a sigh. "Mum is going to kill me for not making Sirius behave."

"Why can't Disney movies count?" James asked. "Disney movies are great. Hey, maybe on Halloween I could be Prince Eric and you could be Ariel. You'd look really good in that sea shell thing and a fish tail."

Narcissa rolled her eyes at Sirius. "Like you can talk to me about responsibility, Sirius," she said, gesturing around at the party. "Come on. Loosen up and have fun. There are lots of cute boys. You like boys, right? Sometimes it's hard to keep track of all the things Aunt Walburga disapproves of."

Remus glanced at Sirius and his cousin and then laughed a little. "No one can make Sirius behave," he said. "At least James hasn't convinced everyone to get naked. He did that once. It was disturbing."

Lily was confused by the question at first. She stared at James for a moment, then arched a brow. "You realise that we're not dating, yeah?" She asked. "That's something couples do."

"I don't have a fiance and my virginity to protect." Sirius pointed out as he looked back at his cousin. Normally, he was a loose goose who had all sorts of fun. But, not when it came to his innocent cousin who would get herself into trouble. "I'm into everyone."

"I was there. It was the point I retreated to my room." Regulus pointed out, nervously biting at his bottom lip. "I decided then that I liked books more than I like people."

James blinked at that. They weren't dating. Right. "Well, yeah," he agreed. "But still, you know. It would be fun. I'd make a great Disney prince. Look at my face. And you're be a really sexy mermaid."

"I'm not cheating on Lucius," Narcissa said, pouting a little and twisting the engagement ring on her finger around. "I just want to have fun. That's why you threw this party, right?"

Remus laughed, smiling at Regulus. "I feel that way a lot of the time," he told him. "Books are wonderful. They never take their clothes off or offer you a shag when they get drunk."

Lily stared at James for a moment and then sighed, leaning in to kiss him on the lips. "I don't want to date you. But, you make me feel sorry for you." She informed him. "How about one snog?"

"I don't want you to get hurt." Sirius told her and sighed. "You shouldn't lose your friends or get hurt. Now I feel like I have to babysit you."

"Certainly not the books I've been reading." Regulus agreed with a laugh. "I ran out of interesting books to read, so now I'm reading all my father's Sherlock stories."

James hesitated. On the one hand, Lily Evans was a perfect goddess who should definitely be his girlfriend and he kind of felt like telling her he wasn't a slut who snogged anyone. On the other hand, he wanted to snog her. "Okay," he agreed, and pulled her close to his chest before leaning down and pressing his lips gently to hers.

Narcissa needed to be more careful about who she said hello to at parties, apparently. She echoed his sigh. "I'm not actually a baby. Just because I'm the youngest. I feel like people always forget I'm actually a teenager now."

"But Sherlock is interesting," Remus said, smile widening. "Have you gotten to A Scandal in Bohemia yet? I love Irene Adler. I think that one's my favourite. What do you actually like reading? I could loan you something."

Lily tensed when he kissed her, even if she'd known he was going to do it. And in the process, bit his lip a little to hard. She pulled back and looked up at him. "God. I'm sorry. Are you okay?"

"I know that you're a teenager. But, I don't know most of the people at the party." Sirius pointed out and sighed. "I just don't want someone to take advantage of you. And you're drunk." He looked her over. "Do you think I'm snoggable?"

"I know that it's interesting. It's just not as interesting as other things I read." Regulus thought about what he read and sighed. "I read almost anything. I mostly read old classics. And I love stories about romance. Just not romance novels. Or Twilight."

This was not the perfect moment James had imagined their first kiss would be. He reached up and rubbed his bottom lip, frowning a little. "I taste blood," he told her, and then pulled his hand away, giving it a cautious look. There didn't seem to be any blood on his hand, but still. "Am I bleeding?"

Narcissa blinked at Sirius in confusion. "Snoggable?" she asked. "No, you're my cousin. You mean if you weren't?" She looked him over and then nodded. "Yeah," she said. "You're snoggable. You're very pretty, Sirius."

Remus snorted. "I'd never give you Twilight to read," he promised. "I'll bring you a few books I think you might like tomorrow, all right? I'll stay away from the classics so that maybe you won't have read them before."

Lily looked up at his lip, touching it, then shook her head. "No. You're not bleeding. I'm sorry." She leaned up and kissed his bottom lip gently. "See? Not graceful."

Sirius sighed heavily. "I've got this stupid idea of fancying someone who doesn't fancy me back. No matter how hard I try." He pouted at her. "How did you make Lucius want you?"

Regulus felt slight butterflies in his stomach. He tried to clamp them down. "That'd be great." He told him. "Or.. maybe you and I could go to a book shop?"

James looked down at Lily, smiling a little. "That's all right," he said. "I don't need to snog a deer anyway. I'd rather be snogging a human girl." He brushed their lips together again. "Long as I don't get bitten again."

Narcissa paused for a moment. "Well," she said, frowning to herself. "Our mothers set us up on a date and then we went on a bunch more of them. For lunch and things. And then he proposed to me and Mum was delighted. I don't know. I just spent time with him. Most of the time we go shopping and we pick out clothes for each other."

"Okay," Remus agreed, nodding after considering the offer for a moment. "I know a good secondhand book shop that even Sirius doesn't mind going to. It's got a coffee bar in the back. We could go there."

Lily grinned at that. "I said I was sooorry." She told him, then then pressed their lips together again. She liked when she was more in control of what was going on in the kiss. It made her feel more comfortable.

"I don't think my Mum would set me up on a date with a bloke." Sirius pointed out and sighed. "Actually, I don't think my Mum would set me up on a date with anyone half decent."

Regulus smiled to himself and nodded. "Sounds great. When will you want to meet"

James laughed against Lily's lips. "Tell that to my sore lip," he said, wrapping an arm loosely around his waist. He kissed her again, feeling very pleased with himself. "It's all right. I always liked your fiery attitude."

"Well." Narcissa thought about it for a moment. She was a bit drunk and she really didn't have any experience with romance, but she read a lot of romance novels. "You need to show them how you feel. The person you want to snog. Give them thoughtful presents. But do it anonymously because that's much more romantic."

"We could go after school tomorrow, if you'd like," Remus offered. "I'm not going to be nursing a hangover like Sirius and James are likely to be, and you seem pretty sober too. If we take the tube it's only about ten minutes from school."

"You are talking an awful lot for someone who wants a snog." Lily told him as she rested a hand on his chest, feeling his muscles. It wasn't any fair. James was very attractive and yet he was the biggest twat in school. "Should we stop?"

Sirius wasn't sure how to show Remus how he felt. He thought it over for a moment and then nodded. "Yeah. I mean, I guess I can do that. All he likes is books though. So I don't know how to show him."

"Yeah. That sounds brill." Regulus didn't want to be gay. He was trying to clamp down on his feelings, but it was difficult. "Perhaps I could find you a book too."

James laughed, shaking his head. "Definitely not," he said, and the mimed sealing his lips shut. "Done talking. Snog now, please." He leaned forward and brushed their lips together, smiling against Lily's lips. This was the best party ever.

"But that's easy," Narcissa scoffed. "All you have to do is read his favourite books and then talk about them with him. Show him you like the same things he does. And he'll have to know sitting still and reading isn't something you usually do, so it'll be even more special."

"Sure," Remus agreed, smiling at Regulus. "I trust your taste in books. I think that sounds like a great idea. Meet by the school gates?"

Lily looked up at James and laughed against his lips, pressing a little closer. He wasn't so bad for someone she'd snog one time and drop. At least it gave her something to do.

Sirius nodded slowly. "Actually, that makes a lot of sense." He told her and smiled. "Yeah. I'll go to the book store tomorrow and get that Illi-" He frowned. "That illy book he likes."

"I'll meet you." Regulus smiled and took a drink of his punch, spitting it out. "It's been spiked."

James tightened his grip on Lily a little, deepening the kiss. He wanted to show her he was a real man. The kind of man who was worth her time. The kind of man she should show her boobs to.

"Of course it makes sense," Narcissa said. "I know these things." She read lots of romance novels. "You should figure out what the book is called before you go looking for it. Reggis probably knows. He knows all about books and things."

Remus looked down at the punch and laughed. "Of course it has," he said. "You know, you should relax a little, Regulus. Not as much as Sirius likes to relax, but there's no harm in you having some fun when there's nothing you can do to stop the party anyway. I'm sure there are lots of pretty girls here."
