Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry

Rodolphus hadn't seen his brother in a while, but he approved of the heightened security in Rabastan's new building. The harder it was for people to get in, the less likely their father was going to come pay him a visit one night. He rode up the lift after getting his visitor's pass and then stepped into the flat. Bellatrix would definitely have approved of all the leather and dark wood. "Bastan?" he called.

Walden was not as sure about Rabastan's brother as Rabastan seemed to be. He and Weldon stuck together. Even if the brother was older and married, he should have been around more. He stepped into the living room, frowning at the other man. "He's cooking," he growled.

"Rabastan had a lot to do with the plan too," Rodolphus pointed out, leading Bellatrix to the sitting area and then taking a seat and grabbing his food. "If we wait until the baby is born, or almost born, and then prove that my parents are unfit, our father will go to jail. Mum's on so many pills it won't take more than a blood test to prove her unfit. And... we could take the baby in."

Rodolphus picked up his fork. "I know we weren't planning on having any kids, but I'd be happy to be the one who stayed home with it. I'm going to get control of the family money if Rudolph goes to jail anyway. We'd be set for life, even after I gave Rabastan the trust he should have. Plus, this is the third kid. Like Cissa, and she's your favourite."

Bellatrix frowned at the plan. It was true. She didn't want to have kids and she didn't understand the appeal of anyone actually getting knocked up and having a leech growing inside of them, sucking all their energy out of them for no good reason.

"I suppose it could work out." She looked down at the piece of chicken Rabastan had gotten her. "Since I wouldn't have to be the one pregnant. I don't understand why people feel the need to reproduce. It's disgusting."

Rabastan rolled his eyes. "Some people aren't bad parents." He pointed out. "And I don't need a trust. It's fine."

"It's not about whether or not you need one. You should have one. You can donate it. Gamble it. Give it away. Do whatever you want with it, but our parents should have given you one and I'm going to make sure you get the money you deserve when I get control of their finances," Rodolphus said.

Walden snorted at that, mouth half-full of steak. "Rich people spend too much time obsessed with money," he said. "You'd think poor people would talk about it more, but we don't."

"Poor people talk about it plenty. It's just usually about the lack of money." Rabastan shrugged and ate a bite of his potato. "You don't have to worry about money now."

Bellatrix arched a bow and looked at Walden. "Who are you, anyway?" She asked. "I've seen someone like you before and I can't place you."

"Walden Macnair," Walden said, looking at Bellatrix as he lifted his steak up with his good hand and took another bite of it. "I'm a friend of Rabastan's."

"You might have met his father," Rodolphus told Bellatrix. "He's a friend of my fathers. He could have been over when we were visiting them. Or he's got a brother dating Rabastan's friend Arielle. The one who got expelled for breaking that girl's nose?"

"I do love Arielle. If Rabastan wasn't so gay, he should date her." Bellatrix took a bite of her chicken and hummed softly. "This is better than what the cooks at my house make."

Rabastan took Walden's fork from him and cut up his steak quick so he'd have an easier time eating it. "There's a baked potato in there for you too. Anyways, Rodolphus thinks we should wait until Mum is far enough along to pull this off."

Rodolphus nodded. "When she's about eight months along, you can distract my parents while I break into my father's vault and steal the photos he has of the things he does to Rabastan. That, and Mum's pills will have them both declared unfit almost immediately."

Walden felt a bit like a child, but he did have one arm out of commission. He was probably allowed to have someone else cut his meat. "And apparently they want to have my father arrested too, because he's in the pictures with him. Prison will be easy for him."

Rabastan looked at Walden and snorted. "You weren't supposed to hear that bit of the conversation. You little eavesdropper." He laughed and touched Walden's hand. "I got some chocolate cake for later."

Bellatrix rolled her eyes at the fags and then looked at her husband. "I did miss this side of you. The scheming side. You've become so boring."

Walden shrugged. "Cake is all right," he said. "I prefer eating meat. Meat is man food. Cake and vegetables are for women. Same with fruit. Just ask Weldon."

Rodolphus laughed as he ate some of his potato. "I still know how to scheme," he promised. "Stealing things from my parents isn't interesting enough for you anymore? Because we could get into a lot more trouble."
