Draco wasn't sure he was ever going to get used to living in this new world. He could come and go from Hogwarts when he pleased. The Dark Lord liked him. His grandfather was alive -- and the reason the Dark Lord liked him, as far as he could work out. There was no Potter. His father worked at Hogwarts. Things were so... different. He walked around feeling like maybe it was a dream of he was in shock or something. Maybe somewhere he was in a coma.

"What would you do if I had a nervous breakdown?" he asked Pansy, as they walked across the grounds towards the Groundskeeper's hut. At least Hagrid probably wasn't their instructor for Care of Magical Creatures. Tom was too competent to allow an oaf like that a teaching position at his school. "Do you know what the warning signs are? I think I should learn them."

Draco stopped. That... was actually a good idea and he wished he'd thought to ask other people for it. "That would be good," he said. "Helpful. Half the time I wonder if the things people tell me are true or not. I should ask Pansy if she'll show me some of her memories." He glanced back towards where he'd left Pansy, then looked at Charlie again. "Thank you."

"I'll have them ready in a couple of days." Charlie assured Draco and smiled at him a bit. He waved for the boy to go on with a grin and then turned to his class to start to teach.

Draco walked back to Pansy, feeling more confused than anything else. At least things would be clearer in a couple of days, when Charlie explained everything to him. Draco wrapped an arm around Pansy again, trying to pay attention to whatever he was saying about the thestrals. "Did I tell you I applied for a summer internship on the dragon reserve?" he asked, glancing at her.

Pansy glanced back at Draco and nodded. "Yes. Remember how upset your mother was? She was blaming herself for weeks about your dragon obsession, saying it was her fault that you were going to go get yourself burned alive or eaten." She snorted. "I remember everything. Unlike you."

That did sound like his mother. "Well, it is her fault. She's not wrong," Draco said, half-smiling at the thought. He pulled Pansy a bit closer. It felt nice to be close to her again. She was still basically the same. She was a rock. "Will you show me?" he asked. "What you remember? Tom showed me some of my memories, but they were incomplete. Charlie offered to let me see his, and I thought... you know me better than most people."

"Your mother wanted to do Valentine's nursery in broomsticks, but I told her then he'd want to grow up to play Quidditch and he'd fall and die on his broom." Pansy thought about what Draco was saying for a moment and then nodded. "Yes. I can show you what I remember about us. It's going to be a lot, though."

Draco laughed, picturing the expression on his mother's face. "Were you trying to give her a heart attack?" he asked. "What theme did she go with? Ducklings? I wonder what she's going to use for the next one." It was still weird, thinking of himself with two younger siblings. Draco shrugged as he looked at Pansy. "That's okay. I remember things from when we were little. It's just the more recent things I'm having trouble with. I don't mind seeing a lot."
