Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Draco still couldn't get over the fact that animals liked him. It made him want to go up to cats in the Slytherin common room just to see if it was really true. The thestrals had all been affectionate enough though, and they were thestrals. And apparently he'd survived a summer in Romania with dragons. Draco had looked himself over for scars, but couldn't find any. He also couldn't believe his mother had let him go.

Draco walked towards the hut Weasley apparently lived in, feeling inexplicably nervous. He was hot and there had been... tension and all that stuff about how much Weasley hoped Draco hadn't forgotten him. It wasn't like he would have shared something like that with Tom Riddle, right? Then again, he'd let him know about kissing his son. Draco walked up and knocked on the hut door, feeling nervous about the memories.

Draco eyed Charlie for a moment. He wasn't sure professors were supposed to look like that, or supposed to be so charming. "Pansy's the one who hits people," he said. "I think if I punched him he'd just get in an even bigger huff."

He tried not to let his eyes linger on Charlie's biceps, although they were quite... nice and he was intrigued by the scars. "Most professors use their last names," Draco pointed out. "I'm Draco."

"I don't like people calling me Professor Weasley. It's weird and I'm not old enough for that." Charlie explained as he looked at Draco with a laugh. "I'm only twenty-two. I'm not ready for people to call me by my last name."

He smiled at him. "Ah. Draco Malfoy. The Minister's grandson. I've heard of you." He told him. "I bet you haven't had a day of fun your entire life."

Draco nodded. Twenty-two was old, but it wasn't that old. Only eight years older than him. "You must have done something impressive to get hired to teach here at twenty-two. Our last Creatures professor was rubbish. Tom said he'd get someone better." Draco had been looking forward to Creatures since before he started Hogwarts, and then he wound up taking care of Flobberworms for a year. No wonder Merlin wasn't in the class.

"I --" He blinked in surprise at Charlie's statement. "I have." Hadn't he? "Sometimes we go on vacation."

"Vacation?" Charlie asked with a snort and then shook his head. "That doesn't sound like fun. You've probably had all expensive food and wizarding music. Suits and dress robes. I know that I've met Evan with your father once and he said sometimes it gets very boring."

Charlie nudged Draco. "You should sneak out of Hogwarts one night. Or listen to Muggle music. Or drink firewhiskey with your friends." He laughed. "I'm a great professor, aren't I? Influencing you poorly."

Draco had certainly never met a professor who encouraged him to break the rules. He'd never met anyone at all who suggested that things could get boring, or that he should do something like listen to Muggle music. "I've drank before," he said. "Scotch. It's... unpleasant."

He frowned to himself, trying to work out how he felt about all the... weird encouragement Charlie was giving him. "What's wrong with dress robes and wizarding music and expensive food?" he asked. "Tom wouldn't like it very much if I got caught with Muggle music. People try and kidnap me, you know. They did, once. Sneaking out would be dangerous."

"Scotch? Ew." Charlie wrinkled his nose and shook his head. The boy looked to be at least fourteen, which seemed to be an okay time to give him alcohol. No one would know.

"I'm staying in the Hut behind the school." Charlie told him with a small grin. "You can come there and listen to my music. And I'll make you wear denims and a t-shirt. And you will feel comfort, my friend."

This seemed like something Merlin would hate, Draco getting to know a professor and doing things that Malfoys were definitely not supposed to do. Draco was annoyed enough at Merlin that the thought made him smile.

"All right," he agreed. "I'll come. You can let me try firewhiskey. I've had wine before too, at dinners. Evan and Christina love their wine. When?"

The scene changed and Charlie was sitting in a bean bag chair in his hut, putting on a record. He glanced at Draco with a smile and poured him his first cup of firewhiskey. It was going to be fun.

"You first glass of firewhiskey. And you're hearing Bowie for the first time." He leaned back. "Let the music set you free. You look good in denims."

Draco wasn't so sure he was more comfortable in denims than the layers of robes and suiting he usually wore. They clung a bit, although it was nice that they weren't made of wool and they didn't really seem to wrinkle. He did like the t-shirt. The lack of buttons was freeing.

He took the glass from Charlie, looking around the hut. "I feel weird in denims," Draco said. "This is all weird." He sipped from the glass, coughing a little when the whiskey burned all the way down his throat. "It... it's still better than scotch," Draco said, laughing. "Or brandy. My grand-father likes brandy. I tried it once and it's even worse than scotch."

"Brandy is disgusting. You drink sophisticated shite. I drink... bottom of the barrel." Charlie let out a chuckle and then shook his head. "Beer is good too. I love a good bottle of beer."

He watched Draco for a moment and then shrugged, conjuring a blanket and spreading it out on the floor. He lay back on it and motioned for Draco to join him. "Lay flat on your back, close your eyes and just listen to the music."

Draco took another sip of whiskey, managing not to cough this time, and then slid onto the floor beside Charlie. "You're odd," he said. "You must have been a Gryffindor. There's no way you could be anything else."

He set the glass down away from the blanket and then lay back and closed his eyes, doing as he was told and listening to the music. Muggle music. "I've never heard anything like it before."

"I was a Gryffindor." Charlie agreed as he looked back at Draco with a snort. "Graduated a year before you even got here. But, I don't think I'm odd."

Charlie closed his eyes and listened to the way the guitar was played. "Wizarding rock sucks. That's why. It's shite."

"I don't really listen to wizarding rock," Draco admitted. "I listen to classical. I don't think my family approves of rock music. Maybe Evan, but Evan's different."

He kept his eyes closed, falling silent and listening to the music for a moment more. "Maybe I haven't had any fun."

Charlie smiled at that. His conversion of Draco Malfoy was completed. He leaned in and kissed the boy's cheek, then stared up at the ceiling.

"We'll make sure you live, Malfoy." Charlie informed him. "Even if it kills me."

The scene changed and Charlie was standing with Draco at the edge of the Forbidden Forest. "It's not that scary, Draco. You said you wanted to live, didn't you?"

"Yes, I did." Draco eyed the forest distrustfully for a moment, then turned his attention back to Charlie. "I don't see how living has anything to do with wandering into the Forbidden Forest at night. There are werewolves in there. And worse things."

Draco ran a hand through his hair and then made an annoyed sound. "You're just going to talk me into it anyway so let's just go and save time. You're far too persuasive." Mostly, Draco got distracted looking at Charlie and thinking about how he had a tendency to do things like touch his arm and kiss his cheek and then he was sort of willing to do whatever Charlie wanted him to.

"There are no werewolves in there." Charlie laughed and shook his head. "As Groundskeeper at Hogwarts, I'm required to know every living creature in there. At most, there's a few centaurs, some unicorns, and spiders."

Charlie reached over and took Draco's hand. "I'd never let you get hurt, Draco. Ever."
