James was not at all sure about this whole manor thing. He'd been thinking of a small country house or something to raise their kids in. Somewhere like his grandparents place. Not a whole manor. But he was doing his best to keep an open mind, following Cepheus's directions as he drove them into the wilds of Wiltshire to visit the manor and Cepheus's grandmother. James had even dressed up in one of his new suits to try and impress her, although with the way Cepheus's hand kept finding its way onto his thigh, maybe that had been a bad decision.

"If we crash, it's definitely going to be because you gave me a boner," James informed him, glancing at him and laughing. "Maybe we should have used your car and gotten driven here instead."

"It's nice to meet you, ma'am," James said, offering Narcissa his hand. "I am a bit overwhelmed, I'm sorry. My family is pretty middle-class. I knew Cepheus was wealthy, but this is... I mean, it's not like the city."

Narcissa laughed, taking James's hand and then gesturing for Cepheus and James to sit. "I'll have to leave you the gardeners then," she said. "I think I'm going to move somewhere warm. The south of France, maybe. But I'm getting ahead of myself. I have to convince you two to take the house from me first. It's a wonderful place for children. They get up to all sorts of mischief."

Cepheus laughed at that. "I can only imagine the sort of mischief my kids would get into. Considering how much I got into personally. I once slid down the banisters and landed in a large pile of pillows."

He paused. "I maintain that Scorpius convinced me to do that. He was the bad child."

James laughed, sitting on the couch across from Narcissa, next to Cepheus, and wrapping an arm around him. "I bet you were adorable when you got into mischief. All those blond curls."

"Cepheus was very good at getting out of trouble with his grandfather and me," Narcissa said, smiling at the two of them. "Very good at summoning crocodile tears. His father was always like that too."

"They were not crocodile tears. They were tears of fear." Cepheus insisted, shaking his head. "I was always afraid of getting into trouble with Lucius. He was so tall and scary."

He pointed to the picture of the man over the mantle. "Could you imagine being disciplined by that man? He has this scary cane with a snakes head on it."

James looked at the picture of Cepheus's grandfather and raised an eyebrow. "Man, when you meat my grandfather you're not going to be worried at all. I don't think he even owns a pair of matching socks anymore."

Narcissa laughed at that. "Lucius always tried to appear more intimidating that he was. He was never very good with children, but deep down he was harmless. He had a very strict father and didn't know any better."

Cepheus shrugged. "He wasn't that bad with me. Sometimes he made me sit in his lap and eat ice cream cones. Which I thought was kind of weird. But, he always had a fondness for me."

He shrugged. "Said something about me looking like some bloke named Evan. I don't know."

Narcissa rolled her eyes at that, leaning over to pour the three of them a cup of tea. "Help yourself to some sandwiches and cakes, boys," she said, smiling at them. "Evan was an old friend of mine and Lucius's. He ran our gardens for a very long time."

James thought Cepheus's grandfather sounded like a bit of a perv, but he kept it to himself, picking up his tea and taking a sip. "I like hearing stories about what Phe was like as a kid," he said. "I kind of knew him, but not very well. He was friends with my brother, Albus."

"James and I fought like cats and dogs when I was a kid." Cepheus admitted, thinking about it. "But, I always noticed the effort of him trying to be my friend. I just didn't like him because he was Albus's brother and older and icky."

He laughed at that and shook his head. "Don't tell him too many embarrassing stories, Grandmum. He'll never let me live them down if you do."

"Tell me all the embarrassing stories," James said, shaking his head and grinning at Narcissa. "I love Cepheus, but teasing him is fun too. He's cute when he's upset." He kissed Cepheus's temple. "You don't think I'm icky now, do you?"

Narcissa watched the two of them for a moment, then smiled. "I was worried you were jumping into this too quickly, but you both seem happy," she said. "That's all I really want for my grandchildren. For them to be happy."

"I still think you're icky. And you still smell." Cepheus pointed out with a small grin, then looked at his grandmother, shaking his head. She didn't have to know the whole thing, but he could tell her bits and pieces.

"James and I have had this little war going on since I was like.. I think eleven. That's when I started school." Cepheus told her. "And I had a crush on him for a really long time. We just never got around to not fussing at each other."

"Well, eventually we did," James said, laughing and kissing Cepheus softly, even if his grandmother was there. He couldn't help himself. "There was just a lot of fussing and pretending we were just roommates and not enamoured with each other in between."

Narcissa thought Cepheus and James were sweet. She took a sip of her tea, picking up a cake and biting into it. "I hope your brother and sisters can find someone who makes them look as happy as James makes you look," she told Cepheus. "How many great-grandchildren are you going to give me?"

Cepheus couldn't help but grin at that question. She'd always liked babies and children. His mother would probably be horrified to be an actual grandmother, but he knew how to answer the question.

"We plan on at least three." Cepheus promised her, sipping at his tea. "I've already got a girl in mind. I'll name her Abigail Rigby Potter."

"Potter?" James repeated, raising an eyebrow at Cepheus. "I didn't know you wanted one of our kids to take my last name." He leaned in and kissed Cepheus softly. "I guess we haven't really discussed that at all. To busy worrying about school applications and wedding colours."

"Have you started planning the wedding already?" Narcissa asked, leaning forward and smiling at the two of them. "I think Abigail Rigby sounds like a very sweet name, Cepheus. Are you planning on becoming your father's heir when you take over the manor? You know he'd much rather one of you two volunteered for the position, and you seem... more together than Scorpius does right now."

"I'm only more put together right now because I have James." Cepheus shrugged. "I promise I'm a mess. I have so much going on in my life, but he kind of keeps me balanced and focused." And sometimes too distracted.

He fiddled with his tea cup, then glanced at James. "Of course they'll have your last name. I'll be taking your last name." He pointed out. "James and I haven't discussed what me being an heir means."

James smiled at Cepheus. "I didn't know you were going to take my last name," he said. "I think that's sweet." He leaned in and kissed him again. "They'd have to change all my jerseys if I took yours." He looked at Narcissa again. "What would it mean? Cepheus being heir?"

"Well, you'd live here, which I assume you were planning on doing anyway," Narcissa said. "Cepheus would get control over the Malfoy family money either when Draco retires from managing it or, heaven forbid, passes. In the mean time he'd have full access to the accounts in order to keep the manor in tip-top shape. There are several charities who have functions Cepheus would need to attend, as our figurehead, and it would put him very much in the public eye, but both of you seem comfortable with that already." She raised an eyebrow at them. "I read the papers."

Cepheus blushed a bit at that, casting his glance down at the floor. He wished she didn't read the papers. Now he felt awkward with her sitting there. Even more than when James was kissing him in front of her.

"Which basically means, I still do all the stuff I do now with less controversy." Cepheus told him. "And with more money and responsibilities. But, I won't have to fully take over anything until I finish university. Father is still young enough to take care of it. And we could start our family any time we wanted. And there would always be someone here to watch the kids if we had to go somewhere or if I had to go somewhere while you were away at a game."
