Open to Liam
When Parker went missing, Callaway never for a second thought that he had just disappeared on his own accord. Yes, they sometimes had volatile fights, but he never left without coming back. Callaway had a sinking, terrible feeling that something was very wrong. The past five years had been a struggle for Callaway, emotionally and sometimes even physically. He hated that the police had given up so easily, and no matter how often Callaway pushed them, they just didn't seem to care.

At the moment, he was trying to write. He was a fairly successful writer, but since Parker had gone missing, he had a difficult time concentrating. Parker was a writer, too, and it was hard to write without thinking of him. It was hard to do anything without Parker. The last rough draft the young mad had given him to read, Callaway had read probably over a thousand times. It was all he had left.

Staring at the blank computer screen, he let out a heavy sigh and lifted his hands up to rub his face tiredly. There was no way that he was going to get any writing done today.

Liam had decided to go alone. Some situations were best discussed with just one agent, it was less overwhelming. Liam had been thinking about what it would be like to be in this man's situation. Even after 5 years he would be devastated. Knocking on the door, he wondered if this would be good news for the man or just bringing up old wounds. His diligence in trying to get the police to listen to him indicated to Liam that perhaps he would be eager to aid them now that they were actually going to do something about the boy's disappearance.

When Callaway heard the knock on the door, instantly his thoughts went to Parker. Was that him? Was it someone coming to say they'd found him or found his body? Was it the police coming to tell them that they'd found a break? He got to his feet and headed for the door, the dog that he and Parker had gone to pick out just before he'd disappeared following after him. They were suppose to name him together, but the puppy had gone unnamed. Callaway just called him dog or boy. He couldn't bring himself to name the black lab even after five years.

He opened the door, and when he saw Liam, he looked puzzled and then worried.

"Can I help you?"

To assuage any alarm, Liam opened his badge and showed it to Callaway stright off the bat. Though for many people, a badge flashed at them wasn't exactly calming. "Mr. Callaway Martin? I'm here to talk to you about Mr. Reigh. Do you have a moment?"

He was assessing the man's condition, everything about him and everything he could see from his vantage point at the door.

The badge did nothing to comfort Callaway, espeially because of the fact that it was an FBI badge. Immediately, his heart jumped in his throat and he thought the very worst.

"Did you find him?" he asked softly.

The man, understandably so, looked a bit ragged. He obviously hadn't managed to move on, and from the door it was easy to see that everything in the house was kept in very neat order. Callaway often focused on keeping everything perfect just in case Parker showed up again, and it helped when he had something to do with his hands.

Five years was a long time. It was even longer for someone who had no closure. "No, we haven't. I'm from the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the FBI. We focus on special cases and Parker's disappearance seems to fit into a string of missing persons cases. We've reopened the case and your assistance would be much appreciated. May I come in?" He never liked to rush people, but he wanted to get down to the questions.

Callaway held his breath until Liam gave the answer to his question, and for a moment he was a mixture of relief and disappointment. He nodded his head as he wet his lips, and he stepped aside to let the other man come inside, closing the door behind him.

"I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name," Callaway said as he held out his hand. "You're the first person who's actually used the word missing when it comes to him, most think he took off on his own."

"Liam Montgomery," he said as he took the hand and gave it a firm, confident shake. He noted the hint of disappointment and he wondered if perhaps Callaway wouldn't have accepted the notion that they'd found Parker's body and he could finally know what had happened to him. There was always a point where people just wanted closer, the hope of finding their loved ones alive long gone.

"Given the patterns present in these cases, we're convinced that he was taken. We're going to do our best to try and figure out what happened to him. He was a writer?"

Callaway nodded and shook Liam's hand as he filed the man's name away. He had a habit of mentally filing anyone's name he met away when he found it interesting, and often named his characters after strangers.

"Yes, he's a writer," he answered as he let go of Liam's hand and motioned towards the couch so that they could have a seat. "That's how we met. We both were under the same publisher."

Liam sat down easily on the couch, everything about him was relaxed, but professional. He didn't want to give the man false hope, but he also wanted to let him know that they were serious about finding out what happened to Parker.

"Did he have any problems with fans? Or did he write things that could be inflammatory to certain groups of people?"

When Liam sat, Callaway sat down as well, and he let out a soft sigh through his nose as he considered the man's question. He shook his head after a moment with a frown on his lips.

"No, nothing like that, and he was a new author, I'm not sure he had that much of a fan base at the time," he added. "He'd only had one book published, he was working on the next book in the series when he disappeared. You said cases? What do you mean cases? There's others?"

While still keeping with confidentiality, Liam had always had the belief that victims' families should be well informed about other cases. It helped to make connections and he thought it helped people not feel so alone.

"Yes, three other missing persons cases that match some of the elements of Parker's disappearance. Plus an additional case that may have ended up the same way save for the fact that the intruder was interrupted. The other victims were of similar age and appearance. The thing that strikes me, however, was that the tools of their individual talents were taken. It makes me think that perhaps the answer to all of this lies there. Which is why I ask about fans. You say he was a newly published author. Did he do a promotional tour of any sort? How well was his book selling?"

Part of Callaway wanted to launch into questions of his own, but he held back. Finding Parker was important, and he wanted to do whatever he could to help. He was just glad that someone cared enough to still be looking.

"He did one small tour over the summer because sales had gone up. He went to New York, L.A., Seattle, and Houston. And Denver, I think," he answered as his dog came over to sit down at his feet. He was silent for a moment as he looked down at the black dog, and he shook his head a little. "He wanted to move in with me, but I said that we should wait. We got into a fight, and then he was gone." If he would have said yes, Parker still would be around, he was sure of it. "Everyone thinks he just left. Sometimes he would do that, he would just go for a few days or a week, but he would always come back. But I'm older than him, and some people thought maybe he had just gotten bored with me."

Liam frowned a little bit. Sometimes he thought Reagan would get tired of him, though deep down he knew that was a completely unfounded fear. He nodded, taking in everything Callaway had to say. "I imagine if that were the case, he would have taken more things from his apartment."

He wished that the apartment hadn't been re-rented, but after 5 years a lot of the original evidence was inaccessible. "Did he ever mention being uncomfortable around someone? I know these questions seem strange, but most of the time, unsubs like these follow their quarry, reveal themselves sometimes just to get closer to the object of their obsession."

Callaway propped his elbows up onto his knees and folded his hands together so that he could press his mouth against his knuckles as he thought back.

"He mentioned one guy who asked a lot of questions at a book signing, the one in New York," he said after a moment. "He went through the line three times, and Parker thought that was strange."

"New York," Liam repeated and jotted that down because it felt important and he had long since learned to listen to his instincts. "Was Parker friendly? What was he like?" It sounded harsh to speak of him in the past tense, but Liam didn't mean it that way. The young man was gone in many senses of the word, so the past was really the only way to speak of him. If they did find him, he wondered if he would be anywhere near the same person as the one who left.

"Um," Callaway sighed before he lifted a hand up to rub at his forehead as he swallowed hard. "He was friendly enough, a little quiet sometimes, you know - in his own world when he was focused on something. But if you talked to him, he would talk back to you, he wouldn't be rude. He wasn't great at communicating when he was upset, I think that's why he would take off sometimes. He didn't like conflict. He was... smart, a brilliant writer."

Liam nodded with understanding. His eyes were full of caution, not wanting to make Callaway relive too many painful memories, but wanting to make sure he got as much information as possible. If Parker was the friendly type, then it was likely he'd spoken with the kidnapper before. But it was hard to specify exactly what Callaway should be trying to remember when they didn't have a profile yet.

"And what, exactly, makes you think he didn't just run away this time? Don't mistake me, I don't think he did either, but anything you can think of may help us."

Callaway bit down on his lower lip for a moment before he got up and he went over to retrieve the copy of the first draft of the second book Parker had been working on. He walked back over to Liam and handed him the worn stack of papers.

"That's his first draft, he printed just the one, and he took it everywhere with him. And I know he could just print another, but he thought it was good luck to have just one, he wouldn't have done that," he explained. "He had just finished it, he'd just emailed the entire thing to our publishers. He wouldn't just dissappear after something like that, he was so proud of himself, and so excited."

Liam took the copy and held onto it with the respect it deserved. It was, after all, the last piece of Parker that Callaway really had. "Do you have a copy of his first book? I'd like to read through it, and a print out of this one as well if you have access to it. Perhaps I can pick out something that drew the kidnapper to Parker."

Callaway nodded his head and went over to open up the document that Parker had emailed to him. He started to print a copy before he went over to his bookshelf and grabbed a copy of his boyfriend's book. He had one that Parker had written a note to him in, and then another Callaway had bought simply to support the boy's writing. The copy that he'd bought was the one that he handed over to Liam.

"Do you... Do you think that he's still alive?" he asked after a moment, slender arms curroundup cross over his waist.

Those were the questions that stung and he could always feel a knot twist at the base of his skull as all of his anxiety burrowed there. "With criminals like this, it is highly likely that the victims are kept alive. Unfortunately, I must tell you that five years is a very long time to keep someone captive. There are so many scenarios that it's really impossible to wager a guess about what happened to Parker. But I assure you that we'll do our best to find out what happened. And if he's alive, we'll find him and the others."

He hesitated and then put a hand on Callaway's arm. "Whatever the outcome, I want you to know that your devotion to finding him is exceptional."

Callaway swallowed hard and nodded his head. There had been many scenarios that had run through his head over the years, many possible outcomes of what could have been happening to Parker. You name it, Callaway ha probably thought of it and feared it.

"Thank you," he said softly as he nodded again.

Liam asked a few more questions, trying to get the whole picture of what Parker was like. It was paramount to understand the victims to better guess what drew the predator to them. By the end of the interview, Liam felt he had a pretty good understanding of Parker Reigh, better than any piece of paper could tell him. It was clear what a strong connection these two had and he wondered if it could be continued when and if Parker was found.

"We'll be in contact again, I'm sure. For now I have enough to go on and we'll be working on the case. If you have any questions," he handed Callaway his card. "Don't hesitate to call if you think of anything that you think might be important."

Callaway took the card as he handed over the stack of papers that he'd printed for Liam that made up the novel his boyfriend had written just before he'd gone missing. He nodded his head and looked down at the name on the card, and for the first time in a long time, he felt a sense of hope. It felt good, and a little terrifying all at once. He didn't want this hope to get snuffed out like all of the other times it had been.

"All right, I will," he said before he looked up at Liam again and managed a grateful smile. He led the man to the door and held his hand out again. "Thank you for caring."

Liam nodded his head, taking Callaway's hand in another firm shake. He'd put himself far too much in the other man's shoes and his sympathy was clear. Fortunately, Callaway had appreciated it rather than seen it as as patronizing.

He was glad to have the books. He knew his team members would gather the works of the other victims. He was growing positive that they held valuable information about the kidnapper.
