To Callaway, Backdated
"Are you sure I can't talk to him?" Parker said, clutching his manuscript to his chest. The publishing company had sent it back with a rejection letter and this was the last one Parker was going to take sitting down. He hadn't ever thought of getting an agent to do this sort of thing. All he knew about the writing industry was that he wanted in and damn if these people didn't tell him why his work wasn't good enough to get published when things like Twilight were being printed.

"No, Mr. Reigh. Mr. Sanders is in a meeting right now and even if he wasn't, it isn't likely that he would be able to take your request. He's very busy. Please, resubmit your manuscript at a later time." The woman was used to dealing with desperate writers who had been recently rejected by the company. Parker grit his teeth together and could hardly keep from slamming the stack of papers and the deceptively blithe manila envelope in which they'd sent his rejection down on the desk. He stood there, refusing to leave and the receptionist looked up at him blankly, stubbornly as their stand off began.

"I'll probably wakeup around 9, maybe 10," Callaway said with a lazy yawn as he pulled Parker close to him and made sure that they were both cozy beneath the covers. "I don't have to be anywhere. What about you? Do you have to be anywhere?"

Parker shook his head. "Nope, no place important to be." He really didn't consider his job as a bus boy to be very important. He just wouldn't show up, thinking he could always find another crap job to tide him over until his big break came. He hated that job anyway and it gave him some satisfaction to think he had a good reason to skip out on it.

Callaway dipped his head down and pressed a chaste, soft kiss to Parker's lips before he settled back down against the pillow. He'd held lots of men while he slept before, but this felt different, and he liked it.

"Good, then I'll make us breakfast," he said softly. "Are you warm enough?"

Exhaling a calm breath, Parker smiled. "Getting there," he said as he felt Callaway's body heat start to sink into him.

There was a long silence as Parker felt himself drifting in and out of snoozing. As his brain relaxed and his mouth got a little looser, he mumbled. "I'm really glad I met you today," he said softly.

The words made Callaway smile, and his heart felt like it jumped a million leaps up into the air. He dipped his chin down and kissed at the top of Parker's head.

"Me too," he agreed quietly.
