Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO; Gelsey Kennicot and Justin Finch-Fletchley
WHEN; Afternoon, post-classes
WHERE; Outside courtyard
SUMMARY; Gelsey goes out for fresh air and possibly conversation where she is come across by Justin Finch-Fletchley.
RATING; PG
WARNINGS; None
STATUS; Incomplete

Homework controlled Gelsey's life, she realised that. Nearly every decision she made while at Hogwarts depended on the volume and difficulty of any pending homework. The saying 'all work and no play makes [Gelsey] a dull girl' was too right. Curse being a Ravenclaw at heart.

It wasn't to say she didn't get away from homework ... it was just to say that most of the time she did it was only to eat or to embark on her Prefect duties. Gelsey actually couldn't recall if she'd spoken to anyone who wasn't a professor, lab partner or student being reprimanded within the past week. Her teenager's heart, which was rarely allowed input in her everyday life, could no longer be ignored. It compelled her to put aside the books and parchment for one day and get a little more fresh air than she generally got while going to and from classes. And, though a secret longing that she was not dignify through fully formed thought, it wanted conversation. It couldn't stand the silence anymore

And so out she went that afternoon, braving the autumn chill enough to settle on a bench in the courtyard. Her thoughts were on the month, as if it had only just occurred to her that it was October. And that Hallowe'en would be coming soon. She'd always had an obsession with Hallowe'en as a child, even if she had never gone out trick-or-treating with the other kids in the neighbourhood. A rather Freudian obsession, it occured to her, considering what she had turned out to be.

"I hope so," he offered with an embarrassed chuckle as he knelt down quickly to get a better look under the bench. The scan warranted an unfortunate realization that it wasn't there. A noticeable knot that had already begun to twist in his stomach tightened. The idea that someone had already taken it was slowly dominating his thoughts.

Standing again he walked to the other side to give a search of the surrounding blades of grass. "You're a Ravenclaw, yeah?" he asked curiously. Having immediately realized he'd be there longer than he expected, it was important to Justin to try and seem sociable. He'd paused in his search a moment to properly remember her name finally pointing at her and offering his first guess, "Kennicot?"

Though he was about 95% positive that was her surname, the Hufflepuf made sure to offer it as doubtful question. It seemed less intrusive that way, he supposed. Plus, he absently hoped it'd be an invitation to get her first - which....he'd never really caught properly enough to remember.

Although she didn't really search herself, Gelsey made enough small movements for it to be assumed that she was, in fact, helping with the search for Justin's lost watch. She at least moved enough to maintain eye contact with him. She may not have been the politest person in the world all things considered but the etiquette of basic interaction wasn't beneath her.

Keeping this eye contact, Gelsey couldn't help but narrow her eyes in slight surprise as Justin reeled off the details he already knew about her. She knew the names of a lot of her fellow students because she often spend more time observing them and their lives than actually ever talking to them -- it had never occured to her that other people would have noticed her enough to learn her name. Not that she especially cared in any case.

She nodded, offering a slight twitch of the lips that could almost be constrewed as a smile. "Kennicot, Gelsey." She only didn't make a sign she knew of his name and house because she honestly didn't think to.

Though Gelsey may have never thought herself noticeable enough, Justin was relatively conscious of those around him. Having been raised to at least know the surnames of people you saw in social situations he'd caught on to names and faces at Hogwarts with time. Despite being in different houses and years, it wasn't exactly difficult to put the appropriate face to a name. First names, of course, were generally used when he knew people more than just in passing. And considering his interaction with the Ravenclaw was practically zero - he'd never made the effort to fully learn the necessary combinations.

Now, however...was good as time as any.

Justin offered her a cordial smile in response as he reached over the bench with an open hand, "Well, it's a pleasure to officially meet you then, Gelsey Kennicot. I'm Justin Finch-Fletchley." With the knowledge of certain Ravenclaw member's and their self-oriented superiority to his house - he left it out.
