Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO; Laura Madley && Stewart Ackerley.
WHEN; Saturday, around lunchtime.
WHERE; On the grounds, closer to the forest.
SUMMARY; A talk between friends.
RATING; TBA.
WARNINGS; TBA.
STATUS; in progress.

It was nice outside—much too nice to stay inside the stuffy castle. It was almost like it was suffocating Stewart, what with all these problems with Harper and not seeing Dean in… how many days had it been? The fact that he’d lost count had given him an unpleasant feeling in his stomach. It might have been foolish to like Dean as much as he did, but Stewart didn’t care.

With that Stewart stretched out, glad to find a suitable resting place on the grounds, underneath a tree—a tree that would most likely not decapitate him like the whomping willow—in the shade. It was lunch and most of the students were preoccupied with eating as much as possible, which is exactly what Stewart would have done if he had been feeling as he usually was. His stomach growled, reminding him that it had definitely not forgotten the forfeited meal.

Lunch wouldn’t have been too terribly bad, he could have skipped over to the Hufflepuff table to talk to Melanie or Laura. It seemed like he enjoyed both of the Hufflepuffs’ company than anyone in his house at the moment. It was nice to talk to both of the girls and be able to think about something other than his current problems, and the fact that they usually sat facing away from the Slytherin table was another plus—he wouldn’t have to look at Dean eating near Harper. Though the change in seating was rather odd, Melanie had just insisted one day that they sat so. Stewart couldn’t help but smile as he thought of the current situation Melanie was having with a certain Slytherin. It was just genuinely funny how awkward the both of them were, and the recent turn of events that they had been having. Stewart couldn’t help but be happy that he wasn’t the only one having relationship problems, although his heart sank when he thought that he could very well be without one shortly.

Time passed as Stewart nodded off in the grass, humming some indiscernible muggle tune and nodded off. He could have sworn he heard footsteps in his near vicinity but Stewart couldn’t force his eyes to open for the life of him, he was just too comfortable. Stewart let out a small groan as he heard something moving again? And with a mumble let out, “Whose there?”

Stewart’s smile had gone a bit crooked when Laura mentioned Melanie not talking to her. It wasn’t exactly a secret that Laura would talk about things that would make Melanie blush for far too long. Stewart had heard about Laura and her way of making conversations turn sexual, but he would always just keep them to himself and not dwell on them—after all rumours were just that, rumours.

When he heard Laura say that, the smile lessened. Not at all because he the thought disturbed him, he just wanted to hug her. Because it wasn’t often that someone could work up the courage to say such a thing, and from the tone in her voice and the way she held herself he knew that it wasn’t easy for her to say this.

“Oh Lau…” Stewart got up slightly and knelt before he put his arms around her and hugged her tightly. After a few moments of this he let go and gave her a smile and wrinkled his nose, and then tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear. She looked much prettier that way. “Do you want to talk about it at all? I mean I’m always here you know,” Stewart sat back down, though a bit closer to her. She needed a bit of comfort right now, “How long have you thought about it or… known?”

Laura basked in the hug, clutched at Stweart tightly and laid her head on his shoulder. For that brief moment, she felt okay, like someone cared about her. She managed a smile as he spoke.

"I do," she admitted. "I do want to talk about it. I'm scared, and no one will tell me that I'm okay. I mean, I've been telling people for the longest time that I'm bisexual - and I was okay with that, because it makes me sound like I'm a free spirit, a popular girl, someone who people want to be around. I'm not sure how it means any of that, but that's what it felt like to me."

It was frustrating, to have held this in for so long and then to be explaining it so poorly. "I like girls," she said firmly. "I'm just not sure if I still like blokes, too. And I want to, because..."

She looked down at the grass. "When I was bisexual I could chase the girls, and turn to boys when the girls were too straight or scared to have me. Boys are easy, Stewart, all you have to do is flash your tits at them and they come running. If I rule them out, then... I might end up alone."

Stewart shook his head and bit his lip as he heard Laura’s concerns. It was just heart wrenching hearing her admit all this. To try to cover up you’re your own sexuality just to be loved, he wouldn’t have believed it but here was Laura sitting in front of him telling him so, the truth ringing out in every word. Despite all this he smiled when she started talking about how boys acted.

“Well, I for one do not go running when someone flashes me anything, so you don’t need to worry about that,” He held up his hand before Laura could interrupt, “and yes even if it was a bloke.”

With that Stewart grabbed her hand, and gave her another smile. “Laura you’re a wonderful girl, and if you don’t see that it’s harder for others to see that. So listen to me, okay? You should just do what you feel’s right and damn everyone else.”

Stewart cringed a bit because while everything he was saying was true, he also feared being left alone. What if Dean didn’t feel the same way as he did…

He let go of her hand and then leaned back down to lie down again. Once on the ground he smiled and closed his eyes again. “Besides it’ll be great, you and Melanie and I,” he let out another laugh, “and we could keep kneazles. And potted plants as well. It wouldn’t be terribly bad if we were all together.”

Stewart put his hand up and pulled Laura down by her shoulder, ignoring any protests she might’ve had. “I believe that everyone has to lie down in the grass and look at the sky at least once a week to get the stress out. It helps, you know?”

Truthfully, Laura hated looking up at the sky. It was just another thing that made her feel small, smaller than she liked to admit to being. She lay on her side, considering Stewart thoughtfully. She had to laugh at his insistence that he wouldn't go running if she flashed him, and when he said those kind things about her, she felt warm inside.

Maybe she liked him.

Well, that was just ridiculous, he was gay. But he was beng such a good friend, and perhaps he wouldn't object to a little experimentation?

"Kiss me," she said suddenly, a cross between a demand and a plea. She had to know. Objectively speaking, Stewart was gorgeous, he was kind and funny and well groomed, and if she was going to try this with anyone, it may as well be him. Justin had been so distant of late, and she had the feeling it would be like asking to kiss a brick wall if she tried to kiss Justin.

There was a moment of silence before he sat up. It wasn’t exactly something that Stewart wouldn’t do. After all he kissed Linda on a regular basis, but it was known that it was just for the laughs and that it was nothing. With all the talk of being alone and him holding his hand he was worried that perhaps Laura had gotten the wrong idea.

And then there was Dean. Dean who was his boyfriend. He hadn’t been near Linda the past few days so he really hadn’t thought about how he felt about kissing another person while they were together. Even if it was strictly platonic. And it wasn’t like he could just ignore that fact.

“I uh, well I’m sort of seeing someone Laura,” He gave her a look and then closed his eyes so he wouldn’t have to see her reaction, “and please don’t ask who. I’ll tell you when I’m ready, okay?”

A second of thought and Stewart shook his head and opened his eyes. He couldn’t leave her hanging like that. Maybe it was just to see? She knew he was gay and she’d just admitted that she thought she was too, so it couldn’t be like she was expecting something right?

“I suppose I could, but you know that it’d just be this time, right? Platonic and all…” Kissing girls wasn’t disgusting or anything like that but it was just horribly unexciting. Stewart could go through the motions, and then nothing. He just didn’t like girls, it couldn’t ever be the same as it was with blokes, or Dean for that matter.

He tried to look comfortable as he leaned forward.

On hearing that Stewart was seeing someone, Laura steeled herself for rejection, but Stewart was leaning in, albeit reluctantly (or so he seemed to her).

She, too, leaned in, and at first she just brushed her lips against his. And it was pleasant enough, it just didn't particularly excite her. So she deepened the kiss, tasting his lips with her tongue, quietly and calmly asking him to part his lips, allow her entrance.

But her heart was sinking, because even as she did so, she knew the answer to her question.
