Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Ron Weasley and Harry Potter
When: Monday, After Dinner
Where: Gryffindor Common Room
Summary: Best mate bonding time! An attempt at studying, some chatting and then giving up entirely.
Rating: No more than PG.
Status: Complete

The day had gone by rather quickly after Hermione had responded to Ron's invitation to the ball. He was no longer anxiously awaiting her reply to see if she was going to say yes and go with him; now he knew and he had been cheerful all day long because of it. People had taken notice too. He actually paid attention in classes and didn't make any snide remarks about certain professors. Ron was in a brilliant mood because Hermione was going to the ball with him.

So, in light of his good mood, he decided he might as well finish off that Potions essay that had been nagging at him for days and why not bring his best mate along with him for the ride? Walking into the dorms, he spotted Harry on his bed and he strided over. "Oi," he said, tossing a nearby pillow at Harry's head, "want to go get this sodding Potions essay over with? Misery loves company."

Harry had gone to one of his four favorite places in the school: places, in essence, where he could disappear, one being his bed with the curtains halfway drawn. But he smiled at Ron, his grin a bit crooked as he rolled up his scroll for DADA as he caught the pillow and tucked it behind him.

"Misery my left hand," Harry snorted, grabbing his Potions text. "You're on bloody cloud nine still over the Ball."

Ron let out a sheepish smile, his face going slightly pink at Harry's observation which, of course, was entirely true. He was still basking in the happiness but Potions was sure to ruin all of that in a matter of minutes.

"Yeah, well, Potions will ruin it and then I'll be miserable and need company. So, you see, perfectly logical." He said with an enthusiastic nod, sounding very much like Hermione. He grinned though, showing that he wasn't entirely serious and smacked Harry in the leg. "So, you coming or what?" He asked, walking over to his trunk and pulling out his Potions text, parchment and a quill.

Harry hesitated, scratching at his forehead. He had felt quite social responding to a few journals, but - that feeling had receded. The chat with McGonagall, the owl from the Ministry - a few whispers from Ravenclaw first years that had set his hair up on his neck. Still, this was Ron, and if anyone made him feel comfortable, it was Ron. Especially Ron with this high of spirits. Stop being a git, Potter, hiding in your bed..

"Sure," Harry nodded, getting off of his bed and grabbing his Potions materials. "And it's nice to feel wanted, though I'm not naffed. If Hermione came in with her big eyes and big brain, I'd be dust," he teased.

"Be thankful its me and not Hermione, then." Ron said with a grin, closing his trunk and then waiting for Harry before heading towards the door. "Common room?" He asked, thinking it was the easiest and not feeling like heading all the way down to the library anyhow. Plus, they could always ignore the Potions and play chess or something in the common room.

Quickly he went down the stairs and entered the common room, spotting an empty couch in the corner. Glaring at a few first years who were headed in that direction, he grinned when they scampered off and he plopped down on the sofa with a sigh. "S'good to be in seventh year." He said with a smile.

"Ron, they're more afraid you'll strap on a prefect power trip," Harry laughed, shaking his head slightly. "Deduct points for loitering and just general nuisance."

Ron put on a fake offended look, looking at Harry and pretending he was quite hurt by his words. "Harry, I'm shocked! I would never!" He grinned after, chuckling a bit, because, he would indeed take points away from an ickle first year if that first year had annoyed him. He did it once and Hermione never let him hear the end of it but he'd enjoyed it all the same.

"Stupid Potions. Why do you need Potions to be an Auror? Couldn't you just like spell yourself better?" He grumbled a bit as he opened his Potions book. He really did hate the subject.

"I think you should ask Sluggy that," Harry snickered, opening up his text and stifling a small sigh at the mere thought of the essay. "Just stroll right on up to him and ask what the bloody point of it all is. Add on that you think he's a right git and hand him a bottle of shampoo to top it off."

"Oh yeah, I'll get right on that." Ron said with a snicker and a roll of his eyes. "If I ever did that, not only would I have detention for life but Hermione probably wouldn't speak to me for days. You know how she gets." Ron knew that Hermione had a hugh regard for the rules but it was part of her and one of the reasons why he loved her so much but he wasn't about to let that mushy stuff come out. He hadn't even told Harry that he was in love with Hermione yet. Harry only thought he fancied her.

"Alright Potions, you're not gonna give me any trouble, you hear?" He joked, threatening the subject as he turned some pages in his book and wrote his name and the date on the parchment.

In a high pitched, small, squeaky voice, Harry said, "Yes!"

He snorted out a laugh and then looked at his book with a slight smirk. "And Hermione not speaking to you means I have to hear both of you moaning because you are both prats about it all," he said, shaking his head a bit and adjusting his glasses as he unrolled his scroll.

"Yeah, well, it's usually Hermione who does the 'not speaking' thing. So blame her." It was true, Hermione tended to ignore him when she was miffed about something though he neglected to mention it was usually him who got her miffed in the first place. It was just the kind of relationship they had.

Writing a few sentences to start the essay off, Ron flipped a few pages and squinted at them, wondering what the hell he was supposed to be proving in this essay. When he finally remembered, he had to erase the sentences he had written because they were completely wrong.

Harry let out a heavy sigh. Do I really have to do this? I just - sod it. "No, no," he muttered out loud, thumping the book once and screwing up his lips in a determined way. "Alright," he said with a sigh, hunching over the three sentences he had written.

Ron looked over at Harry and gave him a confused look. He wasn't sure if Harry was frustrated or annoyed or what. It was hard to tell.

"Mate, you alright?" He asked carefully, flipping a few mre pages in his book before sodding it all and slamming it shut, tossing it on the table in front of them. Potions could bloody wait. Stupid subject.

Harry rubbed his eyes under his glasses. "Sure. It's just - long day. I guess I didn't figure how rodgered I really am with this essay," he mumbled, pressing his fingers against his eyes to make colors explode against the black canvas of his eyelids. "Oi. Are you stopping?"

Ron nodded, not entirely sure if he believed Harry but accepting his answer nonetheless. "Was gonna give up for a bit but I guess I should keep at it. Where's Hermione when you need her?" Ron smiled a bit, picking the book up again and flipping to the desired page.

"How's this? Two paragraphs each and we sod all this and go for a fly, yeah? I think getting almost half the essay done is enough for tonight."

Harry sighed, nodding firmly. "Yeah. Yes, two paragraphs, that's doable," he declared, picking up his quill firmly. "Then we bunk off and after the fly we get back to responsibility and all. After the fly," he added, looking at Ron.

Ron nodded firmly, picking up his quill once more. "Yes. After the fly we get back to work." He agreed firmly, smiling the entire time. "Flying's more important anyhow." He added in after, his grin widening as he set off to work, eager to finish the two paragraphs so they could get the hell out of there.
