Who: Michael Corner and Evelyn Rivers
Where: Library
When: Sometime after dinner.
What: Michael is bored. Someone needs to entertain him.
Rating: n/a
Status: Incomplete

As of lately, Michael was not in the best of moods. He was still facing the ire of all the students who were annoyed about this house elf fiasco, but perhaps some of that was his own fault. Maybe. He wasn't the one who made the elves go mental! They did that all on their own. If he would only just put on a happy face and get down on his hands and knees so he can beg for forgiveness, that could possibly solve the whole problem, but he certainly wasn't going to that when his ego was in dire need of uplifting, not deflating. Maybe if he ignored it, it would go away. That was the easy way to solve problems when he was younger, why couldn't things still work like that?

It was difficult for him to focus on what he was reading, even if he usually could find a way to enjoy whatever reading assignment they were giving. A confused brain mixed with an anxious body was a lethal combination for trying to study. At least he had this one sentence memorized, as he had read it nearly two dozen times already. Giving up, Michael slammed the book closed and shoved it back into his bag. He glanced up and looked around, his brain tingling with that sensation one gets when they come back to realty and remember their settings. No one seemed to be paying him any attention, sadly, so he got to his feet, trying to be as noisy with his chair as he could, and started to walk along the shelves of books. His attention was elsewhere until he felt himself bump into something, or someone.

"Sorry," he responded, not knowing just how sorry was until he looked up a moment later to see who he had knocked into.

When Michael tapped her nose, she suddenly realized why he had been wiping his own so profusely. "Oh," she said, laughing. "Thanks. That tends to happen a lot." He had a wide smile. Using her sleeve, which was already considerably smudged with ink, she rubbed her nose until it was hopefully clean.

She stopped rubbing immediately, though, when she heard mention of a study buddy--she had spent the past week in the library with her nose in her Transfiguration textbook. She thought Michael was taking the class, and before she could stop herself, blurted, “Oh, Merlin, how are you doing in Transfiguration? I’ve been so lost in the class lately, I don’t know why I even took it. Is it hard for you too?”

As she prattled on, her eyes wandered (as they often did) down to the stack of books that Michael had helped to straighten for her. Apparently, the embarrassing book she had picked up was not behind her. It sat on the very top of his stack, and on the cover was a painting of a longhaired man caressing the cheek of a woman in period clothing, with some sort of ridiculous title like Hearts Aflame.

Evelyn sucked in a breath, feeling her face turn a lovely shade of crimson, but quickly barreled on in an attempt to distract Michael, “So, yeah, uh, study? I think that would be great, don’t you?” She clawed out to take the stack of books from him.

What if she still didn't know what he had been talking about? Michael briefly wondered if he was going to have to take out a quill and some parchment and literally write down a message to her about ink being on her nose, but that thought disappeared when she started to wipe away any proof that anything had ever been on her face. "I usually get it on my chin," he responded. "But that's because it always itches there. I don't know why, really." Okay, so that only happened once, but he decided to mention it anyway.

Ah, Transfiguration. Now that was one of the things he knew he was good at, along with Potions. It was actually quite enjoyable, too. Certainly more than Herbology, but he wasn't going to start a rant about that. "I'm pretty good in Transfiguration," he said casually, trying not to let his voice show that he knew he was damn good at it. "Don't think I ever got a bad mark in that class, really. I could help make it easier for you, if you'd like."

Michael was always one for watching people's faces when she spoke to them, mainly so he could attempt to read any sort of emotion they were feeling. It wasn't hard to sense that Evelyn was suddenly thinking about something else, and he followed her line of vision, even as it quickly shifted back and forth, to a book right on the top of the stack. It looked like some sort of...naughty literature! Or perhaps not, but that wonky looking man certainly had a lot of hair.

"Yeah, of course. What were you reading?"
