Ginny let out a morose sigh, pulling the blankets up to her shoulders. Usually, the moment Ginny slid into bed, she would tease and cuddle Harry. But not tonight: it was an evening of mourning. Of great sadness.

Gilderoy Lockhart was barking, sodding, off the wall, shite-flinging, bug-wanked mad.

She had nearly sent her mother a Howler, but thankfully, her friends had talked her down to a simply acid-tongued owl post that informed Molly Weasley that her deceptions as to Gilderoy Lockhart's mental state were not appreciated! Ginny was a big girl, she had been possessed by Voldemort, her boyfriend had died, she was taking a class with Snape, she was related to Percy, she could handle dark and nasty things!

With another beleaguered sigh, Ginny turned to face her boyfriend and rested her head on his chest, letting her red hair hide her entire face. Poor Gilderoy! A Russian banshee. How dreadful. She sighed mightily again.

After a few minutes, Ginny felt all cried out. But she had to know. She pulled back from Harry, wiping her eyes and looking down at her hands. "When you...went into the Chamber...did you do it to save Hogwarts from the evil in there--or to save me?" she whispered.

Harry didn't hesitate. And in fact, it all began to make sense. He cupped her face in his hands and said, "To save you. I wasn't going to leave you there."

And Harry had only been twelve, and he had been braver than Gilderoy. She stifled another sigh on behalf of her darling Gilderoy and instead leaned in to kiss Harry, smoothing over the wet spot on his neck and tracing in the shape of a heart.

She pulled back, snuffling hard and then wiping her eyes once more. Giving him a tiny, chagrined smile, she slid back down under the covers and curled against Harry, feeling herself relax. She rested her forehead against his and whispered, "Thank you. For that."

See I don't get why Skeeter won't write a book on him. Maybe if I told her all of this, she'd lose interest in a book on me and instead - oh who am I kidding. Ginny's kiss made Harry grow warm, a shot of firewhiskey, but it was her thank you that made him feel red.

Harry kissed her and felt himself grow a bit pink. "You're welcome," he mumbled in complete and utter embarrassment.

Ginny smiled, feeling quite humiliated herself for crying. She had such a reputation of being a tomboy, all of Hogwarts knew it. Ginny doesn't cry: she flirts, she fights, she hexes, she charms, she does not cry. And if she was going to cry, why couldn't it have been over something with more substance than Gilderoy Lockhart.

She rested her head back on his chest and rested her hand below his bellybutton, playing with the trail of black hair there. "He did have the dreamiest eyes," Ginny said softly, sighing again. "They were the most perfect shade of forget-me-not blue..."

Harry's arm had been massaging her lower back, but he froze.

He stared at her in disbelief and then to the ceiling.

Are you kidding. Kill me. Kill me now...
