Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley
When: 17 November 1997
Where: Gryffindor Tower; 7th Year Boys Dormitory
Rating: PG
Summary: Ron returns the locket he gave her with something special included.

Hermione found it rather odd that she was being expected to go all the way to the boys dormitory in order for Ron to show her something. Couldn't he have met her somewhere else and taken her to wherever it was? Of course, her mind was reeling and contemplating just what he was doing and planning, but unfortunately she didn't have a clue. Curiosity piqued, she descended the girls staircase only to turn partially around and ascend the boys'. Whatever it was, she only hoped it was something appropriate. Not to mention she was actually breaking the rules by being on the boys' side without a proper reason. It was out of bounds for the opposite sexes to be in the other's dormitories.

But still, she was curious and since he didn't offer to come down and show her -- well, she just decided to go to him. What on earth could it possibly be?

Knocking on the boys dormitory, Hermione didn't wait for an answer before letting herself in; Ron had already said that he was alone up there. "Ron?" she called, stepping inside and looking towards his bed. And indeed he was alone. "What is it that you wanted to show me?" she asked, getting right to the point without any pleasantries.

Ron smiled the moment Hermione suggested coming up to meet him in the dorms. He knew she was curious and this was definitely a good thing. It was a rare occurrence to surprise Hermione since she was so smart, she was always expecting whatever it was that was coming. But he knew he'd surprise her this time. Plus, he was keen on showing her just how happy he was and how much she meant to him with the modification on her locket. He hoped she'd see that.

Sitting up straight, he pushed the curtains around his bed aside so they were only half closed and smiled walking over to her. "What? Not even a hello or a smile?" He asked, grinning at her. He knew she was curious but this was just plain impatient! Leaning his head down he gave her a soft, yet longering kiss and then pulled away to smile. "That's better."

No matter how many times she pinched herself and relived those moments a few days ago, she still could hardly believe that things between her and Ron were finally at the point where they were meant to be. What surprised her even more was how confident he had grown in the past few days and her ability to completely lose all senses when his lips touched hers. Falling into the kiss and letting it linger herself, she pulled back when he did and resisted the urge to touch her lips.

Shaking her head to gather her senses and deciding that that was as proper a greeting as there ever was. Now, she could make him get to the point. "Now that we've given a proper hello, what is it that you wanted to show me?" she asked, repeating her question from before with a tad bit of impatience in her voice.

"Wow, Hermione." Ron said eyeing her. "I don't think I've ever seen you this impatient." He was teasing her and purposely making her wait but he was just having too much fun with it. Everything was all set, anyhow. He'd put the locket in a nice little box with a ribbon, asking some random girl in the common room to make the ribbon into a perfect bow. He hoped Hermione would overlook the whole nicking the locket thing and actually like the inscription.

Ron loves Hermione

Just enough to remember the date and what it meant. Well, at least he hoped. Smiling, he walked over to the edge of his bed and beckoned her over, thinking of the words to say when he gave it to her.

Hermione desperately resisted the urge to roll her eyes at him. Of course she had been more impatient before, on many occasions, actually. "If you're going to tease me, then I can go back to my dormitory and finish what I was working on," she countered, meaning it. She really did not like surprises.

Following him, she crossed the dormitory and forced herself not to cross her arms impatiently and let them hang at her sides instead. Her eyes were searching around the area and across his person, trying to get a clue, a single hint, but she was coming up empty.

"No need for that." Ron said, leaning over to reach under his pillow and pull out the small silver box. Taking a deep breath for a moment, he turned back to her and smiled. "Here. This is the surprise." He said, holding the box out to her and waiting for her to open it.

He suspected at first she might wonder why he was giving her the same necklace twice but he didn't doubt how quickly she'd figure out something was different. Even the first time he'd given it to her on her birthday, she'd examined it closely in her hands upon opening it. Biting his lip in a slight case of the nerves, he waited for her to open it up.

Actually, the first thought on Hermione's mind when he placed the box in her hand was why he was giving her something so soon after the gift he had given her on her birthday. While she never made light that she noticed, she knew the Weasley family didn't have nearly as much money as they would have liked. Not once did she think it was the locket he had given until she took the ribbon off and opened it.

"Ron?" she sounded, frowning and looking up at him with confusion. But his look gave her no clues as to what was going on. Pulling it out of the box, she examined it. "What are you doing with this? I just let Ginny borrow it." She flipped it over in her hand, inspecting it for damages really and then saw the inscription.

"Oh," she softly, connecting the date to when they first got together a few days ago. "Oh, Ron." And without prelude, she held onto the box and the locket in separate hands and launched herself at him, hugging him tight.

Ron watched her as she opened the box and the confusion dawned on her and when she asked him why he had the locket he didn't bother to answer because he knew it would only be a mtter of moments until she figured it all out. And it was just that. When she uttered the soft 'Oh' he wondered, not being able to tell from her tone, if it was a good or bad exclamation but his question was answered when she launched herself forward and hugged him with such force that he nearly fell over.

Grinning into her hair, her wrapped his arms tightly around her middle and hugged her back, breathing in her scent deeply for a moment and relishing how perfectly they seemed to fit together. Then, after sufficiently hugging her back, he pulled back to look at her.

"You like it then?" He asked, looking from her to the locket and back. "That's why Ginny borrowed it." He added for good measure, knowing full well she'd probably already pieced that part together.

Hermione had indeed figured that part out and gave a bit of a laugh. "She told me she was borrowing it because Fred wanted to get one just like it for Angelina," she explained, not entirely sure if Ginny had told Ron the excuse she had given her. Making a mental note to let Ginny know that the cat was metaphorically out of the bag, she handed Ron the box and clasped the necklace back around her neck.

Looking down at it and flipping it over the right way, Hermione finally nodded at his first question. "I do like it," she said and glanced up at him with a small smile. "Thank you."

Grinning down at her happily, he sat on the edge of his bed and took one of her hands, pulling her forward slightly so she was standing in front of him. Reaching up, he fiddled with the locket around her neck in his hand, turning it over to read the inscription a few times himself. He really did love her. More than anything.

"I was worried you wouldn't give it to Ginny. Or that you'd be mad we took it." He said softly, looking up at her now and shrugging. "I just wanted to get you something, do something special to remember that day and I was so worried about mucking it up."

He was already worried about mucking it up, and for some reason, that made her love him all the more. Reaching up to take his hand away from her locket, she held onto it for a few seconds before letting go with a small blush.

"You've no reason to worry about mucking it up," she admitted honestly, knowing that even though they sometimes fought a lot and over the silliest things, she had never fully blamed him for a lot of things. "I'm not mad and I really do like it, Ron."

"I've always got reason to worry I'm mucking things up." He told her honestly, his face faintly pink as well. "I don't want to mess things up with you when it's taken so long for this to happen." He bit his bottom lip slightly, still slightly shy around her about all of this. Yes, he loved her and yes she now knew it but it was still nervewracking figuring out the right things to do and say.

"I really do love you, Hermione." He said, driving the point home and thinking within the situation and circumstances, it wasn't a bad thing to say.

Hermione wanted to object and adamantly insist that he was being ridiculous with worrying so much about something nonsensical, but she held her tongue. Being honest about it seemed to help him and she let him have his moment of insecurity; later, she'd fix it and make him realise that she had waited just as long (if not longer) for this and she had no plans to give it up without a fight.

"I know you do," she said finally. "And I love you just the same." She was still new at saying it out loud and felt a bit awkward saying it in the middle of his room, but there it was. Maybe it'd give him a boost of confidence.

And it did just that. Hearing those words out of Hermione's mouth made him feel nothing short of glee. It would definitely take a while for him to get used to her saying it after so long believing that she never would but he knew he'd never tire of it. His heart seemed to skip a beat everytime she told him she loved him.

Giving her a happy smile, he tugged on her hand and tilted his face up to press his lips softly against hers, holding them there. He wanted to thank her for what she said but at the same time show her he meant it right back and tenfold.

Somewhere in the back of her head, the rational part, Hermione knew that they shouldn't be doing such things in his dormitory. She knew Ginny sometimes came in there with Harry to find a private place, but Hermione was Head Girl and to risk being seen in the boys' dormitory, snogging Ron Weasley...well, that was pushing it a little.

But the feel of his lips against hers was welcoming and caused all rational thoughts to leave her head momentarily as she let herself succumb to the feeling. A few minutes couldn't hurt, could it? Besides, most everyone was downstairs or wandering about the castle.

Ron was pleasantly surprised when Hermione didn't protest to the kiss in his dorm and actually kissed him back, letting it happen. He wasn't complaining at all and was wondering if all it took was a kiss to make her shuck her responsibilities to the rules. Knowing that couldn't be the case, it was Hermione after all, he planned to take full advantage of the fact that she was letting it happen now.

Kissing her with more feeling and passion, Ron tugged her hand again so she'd sit next to him on the bed, his neck feeling stiff and sore from tilting up so high to kiss her as she was standing. One of his hands held onto hers while the other went up to cup her cheek lightly.

Hermione let Ron take the lead momentarily and moved to sit on the bed next to him; she, too, found it an awkward angle being taller than he was. Just for a minute, she thought, leaning into the kiss and bracing her hand against the surface of the bed cover, feeling the scratchy material against her skin.

The thought then occurred to her that she had never sat on his bed before; it had always been Harry's bed because that had always been less awkward. It was nice, she concluded.

Eventually though, the rational part of her brain kicked in and she gently pulled back, reaching up to touch her lips gently. Taking a second to gather her wits about her, she cleared her throat.

Hermione wasn't the only one who noticed that this was probably the first time she'd come within a foot of Ron's bed. He'd always wondered why she'd always gone straight to Harry's and he hadn't know what to make of that but it didn't really matter in the great scheme of things. The only thing that mattered was she was there now.

When she pulled away and cleared her throat, he thought something to be wrong and he looked at her, brow furrowed in concern. "What's the matter?" He asked softly, voice husky from the kissing. "You okay?"

She hadn't meant to make him worry that something was wrong, that would surely deflate his confidence quite a bit, but she really felt it was necessary to pull away before things ventured too far, too fast. So she shook her head and gave him a small smile.

"Nothing's wrong," she said honestly and softly. "It's just I'm in your dormitory and such -- things, what we're doing isn't technically allowed and anyone could walk in." And she was Head Girl. Her cheeks turned a light shade of red.

"Oh," Ron said, a smile cracking on his face the moment she'd explained. Of course that was it. Good old Hermione. "Right, of course. Head Girl has to set an example." He said, a teasing smile on his face as he reached up and tucked a curl behind her ear.

He felt very relieved that it wasn't the kissing that had stopped her or the fact that she didn't like kissing him or didn't want to because he could kiss her forever and he'd be happy. It was such a typical Hermione response and he didn't mind at all really. He loved her for her, after all.

"Well, now that you're here..." He began, looking to the clock. It was still fairly early in the evening. "Do you want to work on some homework or something?" He did have some homework to do and he didn't quite feel like parting ways with her just yet. "I just want to spend some time with you." He said, shrugging slightly and hoping she'd opt to stay.

Hermione was actually relieved that he wasn't taking offense to her standing true to her duties. It was important, after all, that she act like a Head Girl and set a good example for all the other students in the school, just as Ron said.

When he glanced over at the clock, she did too and was surprised that they hadn't even been there more than ten minutes. But at his suggestion to do homework, she looked back at him with a surprised look on his face. "You want to do homework?" she asked, seeking clarification to make sure she heard him correctly. Since when had he willingly wanted to do homework without her or one of the Professors forcing him into it?

"Well, no." He said, looking at her sheepishly. "I don't want to do homework. But I have some I need to do and I'd like to spend more time with you so if that's what it takes then homework it is." He explained, hoping she understood what he meant. He never really wanted to do homework but if it meant spending some more time with Hermione well then he'd definitely take part.

"Of course, if you'd rather continue snogging I'm all up for that as well." He commented with a cheeky grin, eyes bright.

The resulting laugh and the shove against his shoulder couldn't be helped, especially after he admitted that he didn't want to do homework and then boldly announced that they could continue with their earlier actions. Rolling her eyes, she shook her head.

"Honestly, Ron," she said, though didn't sound the least bit put out. A bit exasperated, but that was due to being partially flustered at his suggestion. "Though you need to do your homework, you don't have to use it as an excuse to spend time with me."

Ron laughed along with her, smiling brightly and revelling in the fact that she was joking along with him and didn't seem the least bit put out or offended by his jokes or suggestions.

"Yeah, well, it's a win-win, isn't it? Homework gets done and Hermione time. It's a genius plan, really." He said proudly, smiling at her happily and wondering if he'd be able to sneak in a snog or two as well.

"Though really, I can tell you're resisting the urge to snog all night. Go on then, give in. It's not healthy to resist temptation." He grinned even wider, teasing her as his eyes sparkled. Moving forward he placed a light kiss on her cheek and one lower on her neck, just below her jaw.

Hermione had to admit that he had a point. Spending time together and ultimately getting their homework done was a situation in which both sides of the equation were winning numbers. "Well, when it's put like that, I suppose it's a good idea," she said lightly though realised that she had already finished most of her work. There was a few things left to do, but she and Ron would probably have to work on different things.

She had been about to tell him just that and announce that she would go and collect her books when he kissed her cheek. It was a gesture that she could only term as sweet, but when he ventured lower and kissed her neck, she couldn't help the surprised gasp that escaped. When had he grown bold enough to do that mere days after they had finally gotten together?

"Ron?" she sounded, pulling back, her eyes searching his face. Something like that - that move, it was completely unexpected. Though nice, she wasn't sure if she wanted them to go that fast. But the rational part of her brain said that they weren't moving fast at all, that it was merely a kiss and nothing more.

"What?" He asked, immediately stricken by the shock and surprise on her face and the fact that she seemed uncomfortable. He'd gone and blown it, hadn't he?

"God, Hermione, I'm sorry..." He said, avoiding her eyes. "I didn't mean anything by it. It was just a kiss. I just... Merlin." He finished, turning red and wondering what had possessed him to kiss her like that. It seemed innocent, far more innocent than actual snogging but he could see it wasn't to her and he wasn't sure what to do now.

"I've mucked it up like I said I would, haven't I?" He asked meekly, his voice muffled by his hands which were now covering his face in embarrassment.

The look on his face was instantly sobering; he hadn't meant it in the way that she had obviously taking it, it seemed. And now he was reverting back into himself completely and any confidence he might have gained was diminishing quickly. She hadn't meant to make things awkward, not really. All she wanted was to see what he was about and to perhaps suggest that things slow down, innocent or not.

When he asked if he had messed things up, she shook her head, contemplating reaching forward to move his hands away from his face because it made understanding and hearing what he was saying harder. "No, you haven't mucked anything," she said finally, doing just what she thought, reaching out and moving his hands away. "The thing is - I wasn't expecting that and it took me by surprise." She was grappling for something. "Just like earlier, you know I'm not very fond of surprises and I worry that that might be a bit too fast." There, she had finally said it.

Ron looked at Hermione shyly after she took hia hands away from his face. God, he was embarrassed. He was just so in love with this girl and he didn't think that a simple kiss showing that might offend her. He'd really have to think twice in the future because the last thing he wanted to do was make Hermione uncomfortable.

"Too fast?" He asked, looking at her confused. They'd only snogged a few times... how could it be too fast? "It was just a kiss, Hermione. I wasn't implying anything or trying to get anywhere." He shrugged slightly, trying to explain. "Oh, bollocks." He said, running a hand through his hair.

"I'm sorry. I don't... I'm not..." He started saying several things, searching for the right words. "You have to tell me what's okay. I won't do anything that's not okay with you." He said, softly, shyly, but sincerely.

It was going to take awhile, she realised, for them to be fully comfortable with each other and set whatever boundaries needed to be set. Obviously, he meant it as something innocent and she had taken it the other way.

Nodding, she gave his hands a gentle squeeze before pulling hers away. "I know you won't," she said, knowing he would never do anything that she wouldn't want to and knowing that if he ever tried, she was perfectly capable to handle the situation. "We just have to be open and honest with each other; we'll get used to it." She nodded confidently before clearing her throat again. "I'm going to go get my books. Do you want to meet me in the common room?"

He hoped they'd get used to it sooner rather than later because constantly worrying that he was doing something wrong or making a wrong move was nervewracking. He already had the fear she'd realize she didn't really want him after all but with the added fear of him messing things up, stress levels were climbing.

"Er, yeah. We could stay here too if you wanted. It's quieter." He offered with a shrug, knowing Hermione liked quiet when she studied. "I know you like to have quiet when you're working." He added as an explanation so she didn't think he had ulterior motives.

Rationally, Hermione knew they shouldn't stay in his dormitory. While it was quiet, she knew that it had the tendency to be too quiet and they might get easily distracted later on. But the non-rational part of her brain made her realise that he really wanted to stay there and that, on some subconscious level, she did too. Making her decision, she nodded.

"I'll just go and get my books then and bring them back," she said and got up, brushing her hands over her trousers to smooth out invisible wrinkles. Glancing back at him quickly, she gave him a small smile before hurrying out of the room and to her dormitory to collect her homework stuff.
