Who: Harry Potter and Ron Weasley
When: Thursday, lunchtime
Where: No. 12, Grimmauld Place, London
What: A little fuel before hitting Diagon Alley
Rating: PG
Status: Complete

Harry thanked Kreacher and dismissed him from the kitchen, slumping down at the table in front of a steaming bowl of tomato soup and a grilled sandwich the size of his face; across the table was a mirrored setting, waiting for Ron. He hadn't slept last night, not a minute. Partly because he slept in Ron's room, without Ginny, partly because the noises in the Burrow had Harry on edge, wand clenched in hand, as he waited for something to emerge from the shadows outside and attack this family and this home he loved so dear. He relaxed slightly before the end of the night by reading a book on the Chudley Canons by the weak light of his wand. It wasn't until he arrived at Grimmauld, still heavily fortified from its days as Headquarters for the Order of the Phoenix, did Harry find himself able to rest, slumping into his bed in the room he once shared for part of summer with Ron and sleeping deeply for a few hours. Until the Healer for the Auror Department arrived on the doorstep with her kind yet sharp eyes and spent the past hour with him in the drawing room, the second of their meetings, appointments that Harry knew would stretch on for years.

It was that idea that made him tired all over again.

Still, Ron was about to show, and after their lunch, they would attack something almost as loathsome as dueling with a dark wizard: shopping. Harry sighed, picking up his spoon and allowing himself one bite, his entire body warming when the soup hit his tongue, before setting the utensil down and waiting for his best mate to arrive. He opened up the book on the Canons and started in on another chapter devoted to their incredible ineptitude in the meantime.

Ron was not looking forward to doing all his Christmas shopping. He'd never been much of a shopper and figuring out what to get everyone was harder than studying for a test sometimes. At least he'd be with Harry who, apparently, was having the same problem he was.

As soon as lunch hour rolled around, he say bye to his Mum and he flooed to Grimmauld Place, dusting himself off as he landed in the fireplace. "Oi, mate, where are you?" He called through the house, hungry as hell and wanting to get the shopping over with.

"In the kitchen," Harry called out, shutting the book and taking his wand to cast warming charms to reheat the food. "With the food. And I have been such a mate and haven't eaten anything, but I swear, you got thirty seconds to get in here before I sod it and eat your lunch, too."

"Don't you dare!" Ron called back, feeling his stomach rumble as he stepped out of the fireplace and headed in the direction of the kitchen. When he walked in, he saw the food waiting and Harry seemed to have left a full portion for him.

"Brill, I'm starving." He said, sitting down and taking a bite out his sandwich immediately. Swallowing, he grinned and then took a drink. "How's it going, mate?"

Harry popped open the butterbeer. "The Healer session went fine," he shrugged. He had told the Weasleys about his meeting, as much as it pained him to say it out loud. The nebulous idea of "Harry Getting Help" was easier to bandy about; confessing "I'm seeing a Healer" made him feel - odd. Mental. Just because you know something is right doesn't make it easy.

He took a sip and shook his head, looking around. "This morning was really the first time I've ever been alone here. Just me and Krecher. It feels so sodding weird that this huge place is, you know, mine."

Ron nodded along as Harry talked about the Healer session, glad it had gone well. He kept on eating however, just stuffing his face as usual. He really was hungry. He'd missed breakfast that morning because he overslept and no one had come to wake him. Bloody family. Why was he getting them all gifts again?

"Yeah, I'd think it'd be a bit odd, eh? I know I'd feel weird having a place like this all to myself. Maybe that's 'cause I'm used to craziness and the house being packed full all the time."

Harry tried to imagine how much more brilliant his life would have been had he grown up in a house like that. Oh, well. I'm part of it now. "Are you kidding, I love your house. I don't think I could deal with as many kids as your family, but I like how it's always alive, kinda how Hogwarts is," Harry said thoughtfully; "though the cooking's better at your place. I think the house elves are tops, but - "

Harry stopped, about to mention Ron's mother. He took a large bite of his sandwich and mumbled, "Your mum told me that I should call her 'Molly' from now on."

Ron wondered why Harry seemed to be embarrassed about his Mum saying that to him so he shrugged and took a bite of his sandwich again. Harry was family, whether through Ginny or not.

"Yeah, so? She's asked Hermione to do that as well. Don't worry about it, mate. You're family. We all know that." He gave Harry a smile before gulping down some butterbeer.

"It's just a little weird," Harry admitted, rolling his eyes at himself. If Molly had told him to call her mum, he would have been - disconcerted at best. "I've thought of your parents as Mr. and Mrs. for so long - anyway. Well, if I'm family, then I should start knicking your things. It's bollocks that you're so bloody tall, I can't steal your clothes proper like," he laughed.

Ron laughedf and then shrugged, looking down at himself for a second. "Sorry, mate. Nothing I can do about the tall thing. You could uh, borrow my... quidditch stuff?" He smiled and shugged again not being able to think of anything else.

"So, Diagon Alley, right? I've got a few gifts to get... hope it doesn't take long. Feel like a bloody girl with all this shopping."

"I think I'll pass on that, I'm well set," Harry said, taking another bite of his sandwich.

He nodded and sighed. "Yeah. I did a lot by owl in the past few days, but a couple of things, I really do need to get in person. I hate going out there, everybody stops me and stares," he sighed again. "But, I figure that if you and me just put our heads down and get to work, maybe people will ignore me?" Harry shook his head. "Who do you got to get?"

Ron tried to remember who it was he had to shop for. Hermione, of course, Ginny, Harry's he'd have to send out for unless he could sneak it by him, and his parents. That was about it.

"Er, I've got to get Hermione's. I know what I'm getting her I just have to pick it up. I have to find something for Ginny. And then Mum and Dad. That's about it." He said, finishing off his sandwich and then drink. "Who're you buying for?"

"I need to pick up something for your mum and for Kingsley and the first part of Gin's gift, but I need to find things for the Headmistress and Luna," Harry sighed. "What in the world do you get Luna? Last year, I gave her a book of mythology that she enjoyed, but - she's a bit odd to choose for."

Ron shrugged. "No idea mate. I think I got Luna something to do with The Quibbler. A case for her magazines or something. I don't even remember I bought so many damn gifts. We have a large group of people we buy for, eh?"

Standing, he took his plate and glass and put them on the counter, dusting off his jeans and then looking at the time. "Should we get this over with then? Hopefully it doesn't take all day."

"I think it's time to tossing a couple friends," Harry said with a laugh, for an instant imaging some kind of elimination game show for who stayed on the gift list.

He finished up his soup and put his dishes in the sink, sighing slightly. Alright. Let's face it. He looked at Ron and nodded, heading to the hall which would lead them out the front door so that they could Disapparate to Diagon Alley. "Ho ho ho," he said with a wry smile to Ron as they headed on their way.
