The Halloween Ball! --Posted for Friday!
In all of her years at Hogwarts, in all of her years being a prefect and working on a team full of the best students in Hogwarts, Phoebe Smethwyck had never been as impressed as she was right now as she stared around the Great Hall. Illuminated with candles in all shapes and sizes (and colors, a nifty charm a sixth year had found), the tables surrounding the dance floor were decorated with pumpkins, spiderwebs, and fall leaves, creating a spooky, yet beautiful design. The Ghosts of Hogwarts had volunteered to mingle more than usual (she thanked Nearly Headless Nick profusely, and promised to hold him a belated Death-Day party), captivating the guests with stories---how much truth they held, she couldn't be sure, but they were interesting nonetheless.

The band was a new kind of wizard rock, a bit more political than the Hobgoblins, W.O.A.R. There had been a lot of discussion at the prefect meetings about whether or not they should try and book them, but at the end of the day the naysayers (read: the Slytherins) were outvoted, and the band with the hit song "Do You Believe in M.A.G.I.C" was creating an incredible atmosphere.

So---people looked happy. They were laughing, smiling, and just---happy. Not something Phoebe felt like the wizarding world had been in a long time, and she was glad to be a big part of it.

Now, if only she could find a reason to be happy, herself.

Alright, when had been the last time since she had gone out? Like, honestly stepped out of the house in something nice, and not just to get food or because she wanted to have Tristan breath fresh air? Not since... the Longbottom re-wedding! Since May? Oh Merlin, that seemed like eons ago. So many things had happened...

Interestingly enough, the realization that she had not been doing much actually did not bother her. It might have before, but now-- nope, not really. She liked staying at home with the baby, or just relaxing on a friday night (though really, you don't really do a lot of relaxing when you had a three month old in the house), but. It was nice. They had let her go back to work (finally), even though she still didn't come in as much as she did before. Only a little bit longer until that! But---

"So I was thinking," Gleny stated, pushing her mask up slightly as she spoke. "If we leave around eleven, then we wouldn't be leaving Tristan with your mother too long, but long enough so that it's a nice stay for them." She looked up at her husband happily, putting an extra effort to seem happy to not let him on to the fact that she would be alright with leaving in a half an hour. And when she said half an hour, she meant in ten minutes. Also known as right now.

She moved her hand to lace her fingers in between his, and swung their hands lightly. "Does that sound good?"

Gideon shifted and pushed his mask up a little on his face and sighed. He resisted the urge to check his watch, because he'd just done it a second ago and if he looked again, it would make him look bored. He wasn't bored though, he was at a nice party with his wife and press and she looked absolutely gorgeous, but they had a three month old and Gideon was getting antsy. They'd just left him - this wasn't the first time they'd left him with his parents or Molly or James and Lily, but this was about as far and as long as they'd been gone for. Manchester was just a short apparation trip away, but he knew how long it took to get to the edge of the wards (eight minutes at a full tilt run) or to the nearest fireplace (two minutes, so long as he wasn't stopped by anyone) but that didn't make the knot in his stomach feel any more loose.

He looked down at Gleny and gave her a smile, "That sounds like a good plan. Even quarter-till. That's not too early. I mean, if there's not too much going on. This band is okay, but definitely not what we're used to lately right?" Because when all you listened to was nursery rhymes and the wireless for Gleny's show and quidditch sportscast, all new music was...new. He didn't hate it but Gideon definitely wasn't in a mood for music critique.

"You look fabulous by the way," Gideon smiled, stroking Gleny's wrist with his thumb.

She gave a small smile. Not completely, but then again, everything she tended to listen to wasn't what she was use to half the time-- working in a radio station, after all. Half the things that they were playing she had never heard before, but... she had actually heard of this band. Gleny wasn't a particular huge fan of W.O.A.R., but they were nice to listen to, and apparently they were the hip new thing.

Or maybe not new, since they had been around for a while. Just hip, then.

Well, obviously hip since students had hired them to come to the ball.

Ooohh maybe she should get them to come to the station...

"Thank you, Gideon," Gleny said, feeling her face warm up slightly. See, that was why they were such a good couple; even after being married for a year, and a baby (baby!), Gideon could still make her blush and put her stomach into a tizzy of knots. Not that other couples weren't like that! No, just--- you always heard about how things go so bad after marriage and they were... fine. Better than fine! Well, almost.

"Next year we're dressing Tristan up as a pumpkin, I've already decided."
