Grayson...lol
This was the absolute last thing Adrian wanted to be doing.

He didn't hate Grayson, he didn't. Adrian found his brother-in-law more than amusing, and quite brilliant in his very sadistic manners. He was vital to the Dark Lord's army, and Adriand respected that. Grayson was just so damn irritating. No one had ever rubbed Adrian has badly as the man had, and in all the years he'd known him, it had always been the same. Since he was a child, Adrian had been seventeen when he'd officially met Grayson. Of course, that had been at Daniella's wedding to his older brother, so everyone had been in sour spirits.

Adrian rapped his fingers on the table, eyes nearly hidden under the rim of his hat. His plans for Grayson were simple, but with the man's recent involvement with the demise (or near?) of one of Dumbledore's finest, Adrian was sure that he would take interest in a chance at revenge.

His hand raised slowly at the sight of Grayson, in a mediocre greeting.

Mediocre indeed. That was the problem with Adrian as Grayson saw it - everything about him was mediocre. Nothing really stood out in his mind about the other man besides the fact that he was married to his very favorite sister -- of COURSE he wasn't going to be fond of him.

Honestly, hadn't the Montagues learned to stay out of the Capulets' Wilkes' businesses after the first failed marriage? Apparently not.

He held up a gloved hand for a moment in the obligatory greeting and then sat down on the other side of the table, glancing expectantly at his brother-in-law. Hopefully he wouldn't have to coax the other man to get started - he was hardly in the mood for childish games like that. Merlin, it was going to take a lot of drinks for him to consider treating Adrian like a human being, wasn't it? Arguably, though, he didn't have to treat Adrian like a person ... although it would probably make things easier for them both.

A waiter immediately brought Grayson a drink and refilled Adrian's glass. It wasn't every day a member of the Wizengamot decided to sit at your pub, and Adrian was slightly enjoying the extra attention. He took a long drink before even thinking of speaking to Grayson, but he finally put his glass down.

"I've been collecting information on one of Dumbledore's allies, and plan to make him one of ours. I want you to help with the persuasion."

There, that should catch the man's attention.

Adrian lifted his chin slightly. Since January, the death eaters had been unfortunately quiet. There were those few weeks in April that had been rather eventful, but those were more like random acts of violence than planned and strategic attacks. No, this was going to please the Dark Lord immensely, and Adrian was going to be in charge of all of it. There was no way that this was going to fail, he was sure.

Of course there was no way that this was going to fail -- Grayson would be involved! It wasn't so much that he was incapable of failure but the fact that he tried to avoid situations where he could fail in the first place.

It made it less messy for everyone involved (except the unfortunate target, more often than not). Grayson took the drink the moment it was set down in front of him and sipped thoughtfully. Ah, yes, this was making talking to Adrian easier already.

He'd have to be awfully distracted with the conversation about the newest job to get too drunk, though.

When there was no stamping of the foot or stabbing of his shoulder, Adrian continued, pulling up his briefcase that contained information about their future project. He had been watching the man (if you could call him that) for a few months now, and it was clear that he would be the best way into Dumbledore's secret society. After Dearborn's deception, Adrian was sure that the Order of the Phoenix had strengthened themselves, and it would be too hard to figure out who they were looking to for help without any eyes on the inside.

"He is one of Potter's friends, a close one in fact," Adrian began, rolling out the parchment and pulling photographs. The waiter had been informed earlier on to have the house-elves use their magic to refill their glasses, as Adrian did not need extra ears listening in. He placed the photographs in front of Grayson, silently pointing out familiar faces like the Potters, Black, and the Longbottoms. They would be foolish to try for anyone else, as the trust these individuals had for him ran deep.

"His name is Peter Pettigrew, and I want him to become one of us."

As if Grayson stabbed people on sight who weren't in his family. Since Adrian wasn't considered his family, he at least got a little leeway with the stabbing times. He arched his brow as Adrian set things out on the table and then announced that he was planning to have one of James Potter's friends betray him.

All right, now Adrian had his full attention. He finished his drink and watched it fill up for a moment before he turned fully to the other man. "And you think that there's a substantial chance that he will be easily coerced into joining us?" He didn't want any more messes concerning Potter -- even though he hadn't been the one to let the little brat escape the last time.

Grayson wouldn't fully believe it until he met the man in person, but at least he was now sufficiently convinced that this meeting hadn't been a colossal waste of time.

"From my research, Pettigrew was willing to do anything to remain in Potter's good graces," Adrian began, his mind whipping up the information he'd received from some of the younger death eaters. "Those that were in their year at Hogwarts related many stories of his ridiculous attempts at conforming."

Adrian's eyebrows rose slowly as he continued, the ideas that had been swirling in his head for the past few weeks finally coming to formation, "It's my plan to show him a far better existence than living in the shadow of a mess like Potter and Black."

He had considered their other friend, the one Fenrir was constantly raging about, but Adrian had decided that Lupin was far too smart to be turned. Pettigrew, on the other hand, only managed an exceptional grade in Transfiguration, and that was no doubt from a great effort on Potter and Black's part.

"From my connections in Gringotts, he will be receiving a rather impressive promotion within a few days, and then the fun will begin." Adrian took another drink, catching Grayson's eye, "Are you interested?"

He pursed his lips, considering this. Adrian's reasoning was as sound as it could be in an unpredictable situation like this, and -- well, the thought of turning someone that Potter was close to was too good an opportunity to pass up.

He nodded reluctantly, making sure that once Adrian saw it the nod stopped. "I might be persuaded." That was as committal as he was going to get until he was more sure about this.

He took another sip of his drink, mulling over the options.

He held back his sigh, and finished his drink, wondering what on earth Grayson would need to agree. Adrian knew, in the back of his mind, that he could grab one of the younger recruits by the collar and make them do whatever he wanted, but he also knew that there was little to no chance of failure if he had Grayson working for him.

He let out a breath through his nose, because Grayson Wilkes was the only person that could ruffle Adrian's feathers.

"May I ask what I could use as persuasion? Other than making yourself and even more prominent and permanent spot at the Dark Lord's side?" Adrian gave a slight shrug, "Recent events may have you worried about that, I can't be sure."

"I think you'll find that I am not terribly easy to make worried, Adrian." He knew that the other man knew that, but ... still.

He pursed his lips again and then drained his glass. Merlin, sometimes this job was so tiring sometimes. Couldn't people just bring him -- "It might be useful to have some sort of back-up for him. Does he have family, a girlfriend that we might be able to use as extra leverage in case he needs that little nudge?"

If they had that, Grayson would feel much better about all this.

He moved his hand to one of the pictures, where Pettigrew was sitting near a blonde with short hair. "Dexter Scamander, daughter of the researcher Newt Scamander. They have been together for about a year now, though it doesn't seem to be very serious. And he lived with his mother before moving into his current flat."

There. They knew Pettigrew's friends, they knew his relationship status and his familial one. They had reports from school about the boy's mental capabilities and his lack of social skills. In reality, Pettigrew had already been subjected to bullying by Potter and his gang; he just perceived it to be a good thing. What kind of good thing got him into the middle of a war, terrified of going out in public?

You didn't see any death eaters hiding for their lives.

"You have all you need; I don't wish to be out late, Daniella has not been sleeping well."

"If Daniella hasn't been sleeping well, perhaps having you out of the house will do her some good." He couldn't imagine that someone related to the husband who had pushed her down the stairs offered too much in the way of peace of mind, even if it was subconsciously or something atrociously psychological like that.

Yes, he was convinced for now - he drained his glass again, still not paying attention to how much he'd already consumed. Perhaps he wasn't exactly watching what he said when it came to Adrian and his sister and his true feelings were starting to ... show just a little.

"She doesn't sleep well until I am home," Adrian corrected, eyebrows creasing at the comment. There had always been a strong hostility toward the subject of his and Daniella's marriage, and while Adrian could understand it----well, no, actually. He honestly could not. Daniella had been beaten and abused during her marriage with his brother, and now she was with a man that honestly adored her and had for as long as he could remember. They had a child together, and were soon expecting another; could Daniella's happiness not be seen?

The Wilkes were a rather strange brood, Adrian had to remind himself. There was much self-hatred for each other, just as much as they had for other people. He would just have to live with it, though he seemed to get along just fine with Juliana and Amery. Maybe they were just better at hiding their dislike.

"She gets very possessive during pregnancy, it seems."

Oh, was that what he thought? Even if Daniella was -- all right, he had to admit that Daniella was probably a little fond of Adrian -- he didn't think that she was possessive of him. He snorted and glanced down at his glass, wondering how many drinks he'd managed to sling back in the last little while, and then looked up to Adrian.

"I doubt you're the one she really wants to be sleeping with in all meanings of the word," he managed with a slight, sharp smirk. "I only say so because I'm sure you can't live up to the standards I set."

Adrian didn't need a moment to understand the man's words, and while he was startled, the emotion barely played on his face. He'd known the Wilkes for a very, very long time, and it would be a lie to say that their hadn't been whispers or rumors of foul play behind their walls. He would always be the first to shoot down such things, because of his deep love for Daniella; but even as her husband for almost two years, he could not force himself to disbelieve such a statement.

He breathed in deeply through his nose, his fingers rapping against the table for a moment. Adrian's gaze never left Grayson, and he blinked slowly as his thoughts caught up with him. Adrian held much rank over the other man in the Dark Lord's army, as much as Grayson liked to think other wise. He had nearly a decade more in his service, and while he rarely had to assert his rank with those he trusted, right now it seemed absolutely necessary.

If he didn't need Grayson at this moment, he would have killed him on the spot.

"You are to leave now," Adrian stated in staccato. "You're not to come to our home or visit Edmund until invited," Daniella, he could unfortunately not put such restrictions on, at least until he could convince her that they were for the better. Which, he would make sure he did. "Is that understood?"

He really shouldn't have trusted Grayson to begin with anyway. He was almost pleased with the fact that Adrian had pulled rank on him -- almost. It was more annoying than anything, and although he knew he should've been far more upset by this he was only vaguely irritated.

After all, it wasn't as if the other man could keep him from seeing his sister. He was fairly certain of that, at least. As much as he hadn't meant to come right out and say that, perhaps Adrian would now better understand Grayson's hostilities toward him...and his deep desire to keep his sister safe, whether it was an appropriate sort of desire or not (which it most certainly was not).

He merely stood from the table, brow arched. He didn't contradict Adrian's statement, so he assumed the other Death Eater would know he'd 'obey' for now, since he did outrank him.

"Just remember that you're the one who contacted me about Pettigrew." They'd have to talk about that eventually.
