Slug Club Party! Open to Everyone
Rebecca smiled tightly as Professor Slughorn finally left her grasp, and she wiped at her eyes. Oh, this was terrible! Professor Slughorn had been her absolute favorite, and as a head of house, you couldn't ask for more! Rebecca had constantly gone to him for career advice, life advice, and just to talk, and yes--he was a bit stuck in his ways, but it wasn't a bad thing to want to make good connections. He knew how to truly be a Slytherin, and she was sad that he was leaving his post.

She should be happy that he was leaving the same year she finished her education at Hogwarts, but knowing that the Potions Master was not going to be in the dungeons come September constantly reminded Rebecca that she would not be in the school after June. It was a terrifying thought, being a Hogwarts graduate. Rebecca was sure she was ready for her internship, but for the rest of the real world? She wasn't so sure.

There had been whisperings at the last family dinner, about proper suitors and all that..

She sighed greatly and lingered by the drinks, her eyes casting over the various punch bowls. Everyone looked lovely, and she would normally be in a twitter about the celebrities that roamed the Great Hall, but at the moment she could only be melancholy.

Sebastian!

Mackenzie, in a rare show of emotion, fiddled with her hands nervously in her seat. How could she not? For some reason beyond her, she had let Sebastian convince her that coming to Slughorn's goodbye party would be a good idea. That it would be fun to see old professors and classmates, not to mention the countless end of famous people that would be attending.

Except her problem with that was all of her friends from school were either dead, in prison, barely speaking to her, or not speaking to her at all, and she had no desire to see any famous people tonight. Sebastian had no idea about the issues with her friends she had been having, or at least she was trying her best to hide those facts from him (she hadn't spoken a word about any of it). So no, as much as she desired to scream and assert how fearsome she could be to them, tonight was not the night to start.

And that was just the tip of the iceberg! The simple thought alone that she had left her baby--- not that Sebastian's brother wasn't capable of taking care of his nephew for a night, but--- well. Their situation was different. She was allowed to feel paranoid, with everything that had happened. It was completely normal: she would know, she had just spend the last year working as a pediatrics Healer.

A forced smile appeared on Mackenzie's lips as Sebastian returned, and as much as she wanted to, she couldn't stop her leg from it's quick bouncing. It had been going strong for the past twenty minutes, and obviously didn't feel the need to stop as her husband sat down.

She would wait a bit longer to avoid talking with Slughorn. As much as Mackenzie had enjoyed him as her head, and a mentor, she didn't think she was quiet ready for him yet.

There were a few reasons why Sebastian had insisted on accepting the invitation. One, yes, they did have a newborn, and as hard as it was to leave Anthony with his Dod Eric, they needed a night for themselves. It was just necessary! And it didn't help that Mackenzie was back at work, and with Sebastian's easy hours he was home more often. He was getting a bit of cabin fever, that was for sure.

He also had the constant reminder of the Order on his mind, and he hoped to put it away for a night. Sebastian hadn't dared uttered a word of it to Mackenzie, and he felt guilty about it. But he couldn't! He didn't know if he actually wanted to help, and if he did, she still spoke to, and was close to people that he himself thought to be quite untrustworthy. Who knew what kind of information the Order had on some of the people Mackenzie associated with.

"Cheer up, Loftus," Sebastian said with a grin, dropping down beside Mackenzie with their drinks. "We're supposed to be celebrating."

She tried another pitiful attempt at a believable smile, but Mackenzie didn't dare to think it accomplished anything she hoped. Unfortunately, ninety percent of the time Sebastian could see right through her--- so she hoped that tonight would be apart of his off ten percent.

"I am," she nodded as she reached for her cup. Never had the concept of liquor strengthening her current state ever been so appealing. Mackenzie raised her cup up in the air toward Slughorn's general area, and as she had seen her friends do many times, slung back over half her drink in one swing.

What? That was acceptable. She had just been pregnant for nine months, and that's what people did at parties, didn't they? Plus she was apart of the older crowd here so--- fear of growing old could be responsible as well.

She honestly was doing the worst job at appearing calm, wasn't she?

"Yuh huh."

Sebastian smirked greatly at his wife; who was she trying to fool? They were certainly able to keep secrets from each other (or at least they were sympathetic enough not to pester the other), but this was just blatantly obvious on Mackenzie's part. Sebastian didn't know if it was only the fact that Anthony wasn't within their sight, he was feeling the slight twitch of separation too, but he knew that Mackenzie would've admitted she missed their son if it was only that.

He leaned back and took a drink, eyes wandering over the party. He himself had never been part of the Slug Club, though he'd never felt any jealousy about it. Sebastian didn't need an invitation to an exclusive club to be recognized for his skills (and look at that, he'd gotten one from the Order of the Phoenix, which many here could not say). He wondered briefly how many people actually did find Professor Slughorn as a comrade and friend, and he supposed that the chances of that were rather good; people rarely did nice things these days, if they didn't think they'd get something from it. Being on friendly terms with Slughorn could definitely open up doors.

But, Sebastian didn't need any doors opened at the moment. He sat up, slapping his thighs in a motion full of finality. They were not going to spend another event sitting around awkwardly. The Jugson wedding had been enough, and they needed practice for the Dorny's.

"C'mon, I know something that'll make you feel better," he said, standing, taking Mackenzie's wrist in a sweeping motion. Sebastian intended to push through the crowd and out the door into the corridors of Hogwarts; it had been a ridiculously long time since he'd wandered around the school.

She was miserable at this. Honestly, for a Slytherin, Mackenzie had found she could rarely been cunning and deceptive when she wanted to be; only a certain times did she seem able to deceive anyone, and even then it would come and go. She supposed she could blame the lack of practice on that fact, but. It wasn't exactly that she strived to be a good liar, in the past or now.

Well, now a silver tongue would have been much appreciated.

Mackenzie let out a quiet sigh, distracted slightly for a moment as she eased her own thoughts. So, it came as a surprise to her when Sebastian stood up quickly and swept her out of her chair as well. "I don't---" she started as he headed toward the center of the room, where most people were standing. Talking to people really wasn't on her list of things to do that very moment. While she usually did enjoy it, yes, but not right now. This was a bit too much for her.

But much to her surprise, Sebastian pushed past the people, heading in a direct line toward the door. Once she finally caught on to what he was intending to do, a small smile appeared on Mackenzie's face, and she moved closer to him as they walked. Yes, of course he knew that walking around their old school would make her feel better: she had always felt most at home here, a place where she could just be herself.

"Are we going to do our old rounds?" she asked in a quiet tone once they were finally alone. Mackenzie shook her wrist out of Sebastian's grasp only to latch her arm around his.
