Wendy dear!
"This is really nice of you," Chandler noted, shifting the ever-growing tower of scrapbook paper in his arms. They were every shade of the rainbow, many with glittery designs that twisted and swirled. Lots of pink, too, that was the main theme; pink hearts, pink bows, pink glitter, pink pink pink. Oh--Lavender too, of course, and Chandler's eyebrows rose as he spotted an aisle of the crafts store that seemed completely dedicated to the color. Huh. He had never actually attempted a craft outside of the tiny projects the library holds in the children's area, but Wendy's determination to create a baby book of sorts for her friend was opening up a whole new world of items to him.

Wendy was opening up a whole new world of a lot of things to him, but glue sticks and stickers was her current project.

Chandler still found it hard to believe that he was actually speaking to Wendy without stuttering, or that his throat didn't close up from nerves. All those years of being terrified to even say her name seemed like such a waste, but he did remind himself (often!) that they were just friends, and he could handle being friends. It was that whole---next level...thing that got his insides all jumbled and twisty.

"Does a person really need all this glitter?" he asked, honestly astounded at the jar of glitter that was nearly as heavy as a dictionary (he often based the weight and size of things off his books---that's what he knew!).

Chandler looked simply aghast! How could Wendy think such a thing? Did he ever make any sort of expression to make her believe that he found her annoying? Maybe his attempts to hide his strong love for her had backfired, and had made her believe that he found her something like repulsive! Oh, oh no, he had to fix this, Wendy couldn't possibly be allowed to believe anything like that! His whole life had depended on the fact that she at least didn't hate him, and this would certainly turn her feelings into that!

Feelings! She had feelings!

"Not at all!" Chandler let out, turning to fully face Wendy. He'd never imagined he'd ever be able to say these words, but the fear of losing Wendy completely was causing some sort of hidden courage to bubble up inside of him. It was at least causing his mouth to say things he normally wouldn't; his brain and heart were running around frantically trying to stop his lips from moving. "I think you're brilliant, and smart, and beautiful, and--and kind, that's what I love most and--"

He paled greatly, "I just told you that I loved you, didn't I? Twice?"

Chandler cursed his brain for being so slow. His heart was still rapidly beating to catch up, but his brain had managed to make everything move in slow motion. Oh, oh dear. What had he done?

The knots in her stomach hadn't undone themselves; instead, they only seemed to squeeze harder. But it was such a lovely feeling, that Wendy couldn't even bother to be bothered by it. She was surprised, relieved, overjoyed, and all other manner of loud, excited, and conflicting emotions. Wendy's head couldn't wrap itself around what Chandler was saying, that those six or seven months of agony were almost in vain (to think it had been even longer for him!) because her feelings did not go unreturned. The rest of her, however, and far wiser than her head had ever been, was already celebrating this revelation wildly and enthusiastically, her livelihood for the day, and hopefully for longer to come, fully restored.

"Chandler Midgen!" she squeaked, eyes stinging ever-so-slightly, since they were liable to start tearing in a snap--something she'd like to avoid, because she couldn't stand if a moment like this were ruined, "I love you too!"

So, with considerably less thought than she'd given anything else that she'd done this morning, Wendy pulled him forward by the front of his robes and gave him the biggest kiss she'd ever even thought about giving a person. And the fact that they were in a store of crafts, stuck in the corner by the stickers, so far as she was concerned, only made things better.
