MINISTRY OF MAGIC, EARTHQUAKE
Dirk loved his job, he did, but he loved Fridays even more. He still got to go in and work with the goblins (when they let him!), but he got to look forward to a nice quiet weekend of doing whatever he pleased. Lately it had been trying to get Derek to hang out with him, even though that usually just involved watching telly. It was something! Dirk was worried about his big cousin, especially now with the war getting so intense and--

He blinked curiously, as the shelves of his cubicle began to shake. Dirk's eyes twitched back and forth as he watched the pictures he had hanging drop to the floor, and the bust of Gorgak the Terrible started to inch forward and forward. And his desk was shaking, and now his chair, and Dirk was startled to his feet at the sound of someone screaming, "EARTHQUAKE!"

An earthquake! Oh hell, Dirk had just been thinking that some erumpents had escaped again! Earthquake! What was the first rule of an earthquake? These were NOT the things they taught you in Hogwarts! How was he supposed to survive an earthquake if he didn't have the proper training?! DEREK WOULD KNOW WHAT TO DO, THAT IS WHY DIRK WANTED TO REMAIN CLOSE TO HIM AND----

The bust of Gorgak the Terrible teetered off the shelf and smacked Dirk straight in the forehead, making him drop to the ground, and thankfully roll under his desk.

He really did love his job, he did.

All right, Corner had fully been planning on finding his Aurors to make a more organized search effort as soon as possible ... really. Despite the fact his foot was broken and he was still bleeding (although he'd tried to staunch the flow a little with a muttered first-aid spell) he was getting around at a fairly good pace ... up until he saw the pregnant lady on the ground with a head injury.

Damn. That definitely counted as more urgent than finding other Aurors. He grimaced and then managed to lower himself down next to her so he could speak in a low voice, "Are you awake?" Because he could probably levitate her if he had to, but that wasn't something he was looking forward to doing.

One arm was employed to push herself up onto an elbow, her fear for her baby momentarily overwhelming the blinding agony shooting through her head. There was a familiar male voice... one that she had heard numerous times in passing, but to whom it belonged she could not tell. She swung her head heavily back and forth, spirals of honey colored hair hanging to curtain her face.

"I... think so... But my baby..."

Ah, he'd dealt with pregnant women before ... but not in this situation. Corner took a deep breath.

"All right, miss. We both need a healer, so we're going to head to one of the safe apparation zones..." Hopefully he could pull himself together long enough to get them there, though. He was already starting to think that walking on his foot wasn't going to work for much longer.

"But you need ... to stay calm. Worrying won't do anything."

A healer... yes, she certainly could do with one of those right now. Despite the man's advice she couldn't help but to worry, terrified of the shooting pains radiating in her abdomen. Squinting at the man kneeling beside her, it took her a moment to put the dual images of him together to make a whole before recognition set in. "Minister?"

She tried again to push herself up, gasping for air when her vision swam. She wasn't sure she could manage to get to her feet in this state... something warm and sticky was dripping down the side of her face from where she'd struck the desk. "My husband... he's a healer..."

Sucking air through her teeth, she bit back a sob and tried again to focus on the Minister's face. "I need to see my husband. I think something's wrong. Please..."

Oh Merlin, she was panicking. He pursed his lips tightly, bringing his hand to her arm so that he could look her straight in the face.

"Yes, I'm Minister Conway. Don't you worry, we're going to head to St. Mungo's and ..." Merlin, his head was spinning already, "And get you your husband." Or someone else.

"But we need to go now." Because if he didn't leave right now he was going to pass out on her.

She nodded. He was right, they had to get to the hospital. And in order for that to happen, she had to move. So she carefully pulled herself to her knees and slowly, laborously moved to get her feet beneath her. She remained doubled over for a moment, grinding her teeth as a fresh wave of pain and vertigo washed over her. An earthquake... how could such a thing happen here? It was unheard of!

Normally she would never have been so bold, but given the circumstances Jolene had no problem with reaching out to tightly grab the forearm of the man helping her, finally lifting herself to as much of an upright position as she could manage. Which was when she noticed his own battered appearance, brows creasing. How in the world were they going to make it to the apparation zone like this?

"Can you walk, sir?"

"I can walk," Corner insisted, despite the fact that he knew he was quickly losing blood and that he could feel his head swimming. He'd apparated in worse condition than this as a younger man, surely as a more experienced Auror he'd be just fine ... right?

Sure. He steeled himself by taking a deep breath and started to navigate the corridors, ignoring the spots that floated in front of his eyes in favor of thinking about his daughter and Charlotte and -- all the other people that he needed to make sure were all right.

Checking on others meant that he distinctly couldn't die.
