MINISTRY OF MAGIC, EARTHQUAKE
Dirk loved his job, he did, but he loved Fridays even more. He still got to go in and work with the goblins (when they let him!), but he got to look forward to a nice quiet weekend of doing whatever he pleased. Lately it had been trying to get Derek to hang out with him, even though that usually just involved watching telly. It was something! Dirk was worried about his big cousin, especially now with the war getting so intense and--

He blinked curiously, as the shelves of his cubicle began to shake. Dirk's eyes twitched back and forth as he watched the pictures he had hanging drop to the floor, and the bust of Gorgak the Terrible started to inch forward and forward. And his desk was shaking, and now his chair, and Dirk was startled to his feet at the sound of someone screaming, "EARTHQUAKE!"

An earthquake! Oh hell, Dirk had just been thinking that some erumpents had escaped again! Earthquake! What was the first rule of an earthquake? These were NOT the things they taught you in Hogwarts! How was he supposed to survive an earthquake if he didn't have the proper training?! DEREK WOULD KNOW WHAT TO DO, THAT IS WHY DIRK WANTED TO REMAIN CLOSE TO HIM AND----

The bust of Gorgak the Terrible teetered off the shelf and smacked Dirk straight in the forehead, making him drop to the ground, and thankfully roll under his desk.

He really did love his job, he did.

"You need to get to St. Mungo's," he decided after a moment of consideration. "If you are looking for other people that you're worried about they should be there too." Unless they were dead, but Roderick had just enough sense not to say that to her face.

He offered her his arm again so that she could stay steady and then managed a faint shrug. "I'm not sure where it hit," which was a lie, "but I'm sure it can't be as bad as it seems right now."

Probably also a lie.

Erin numbly nodded to Roderick's words, walking with a slight limp as she allowed him to lead her out the lab. Her mind was running around a mile a second; what if it had been all over? What if---Jesus, all the kids were with her mum while everyone worked so---what---what if it hit Glasgow? Well...she knew earthquakes didn't exactly work like that, but who bloody knew if it was a magical--God, she was talking nonsense, wasn't she?

"Holy shit," she let out at the sight of the completely torn apart corridor. How could Roderick not think it was that bad? Erin was bloody lucky as all hell that their potions hadn't been smashed together in unfortunate combinations, or else they all would've been blown to bits. Erin's hand pushed harder on her stomach, trying to control her 'what ifs' from taking over and getting her too riled up. She'd made it out with just a burn, things were--

"That---is a person under that rubble!" Erin shrieked, letting go of Roderick's arm and rushing forward.

Roderick wasn't panicking the way that Erin was because he didn't have anyone to worry about -- at least not here. He was fairly sure that Aland had gotten himself to his sister's house or something like that and avoided all the drama, so he wasn't concerned about that.

When Erin pointed out to him that there was a person under the debris around them, though, he perked up and instantly set his attention on what Erin was looking at. From the look of things, she was right. "Then we should get them out." That was a logical enough conclusion to come to, right?

---------------------------------------------

Avis had just come in to sign some papers. She was going to head straight back to her sister as soon as she finalized some of the papers so they could be sent off to the courts and then there would be no problem. She'd just been stepping into the ministry when she'd heard the strange noises and then felt the vibrations.

The roof came down on top of her too quickly for her to do anything but throw up a half-hearted spell - if it hadn't been for the protections that they put on the proper Aurors she would have certainly perished.

As it was, she was unconscious and trapped underneath several heavy chucks, but her familiarly thin fingers stuck out from the pile.
