Fine, fine, he supposed saving a person or two couldn't be avoided--there was an astounding number of people walking about. But he was on his way out, not on his way in to help others.
"Of course I can stand," he hissed, shooting her a contemptuous look despite the fact that he was sprawled on the ground and looking quite like the wind had been knocked out of him. His free hand searched blindly on the ground for the wand that had been flung from his grasp in his avid casting. This was simply perfect, wasn't it? The whole world turns up to Diagon Alley and he runs into Emmeline Vance. Or tackles, more appropriately, but Snape wasn't so fixated on technicalities at this point.
With a noise of triumph, the thin man pulled himself up (not without some difficulty, but that was irrelevant) and, with a change of plans, started to head back towards the apothecary, hoping to find the Floo network's connection would be undisturbed. Trying to Apparate in the midst of all this madness was just asking for a splinching. Why was it he worked here, when all this alleyway gave him was trouble upon trouble?
He passed Emmeline with nothing so much as a grunt, and that was up to her to take however she pleased.
