[Tomas. :( ]
She knew only a couple of things right now.

Her son was safe. Tomas was safe ... and that was very, very important. The other thing, though, was that Corner Conway was dead. She wouldn't admit this to anyone (indeed, she didn't think it was a very good idea), but she'd been very ... close with Corner in her younger years, despite his protests and the fact that he had been mourning his wife at the time. She'd been a bitch anyway.

It meant that she missed him, though, in a way that was more emotionally invested than most other people might get. Sure, she felt sympathy for people who lost others ... and even when other Aurors died, but this was still different.

She'd taken the day off, and Tomas should have too - but she knew he was too stubborn for that. She'd spent the day with their son -- making cookies hadn't worked out very well, but Geoffrey was still having fun decorating them even if they tasted a bit off. Anything to distract both of them, right? Merlin's sake, the boy had been through two traumatic moments in the past year.

He crossed the kitchen quickly, and didn't waste a second to kiss his wife hello once she stood (with an outstretched hand from him, of course--she was pregnant, she shouldn't be kneeling). Tomas felt his face flicker into a smile, and it felt like he was rusty. Smiling was his thing, he had a great smile, so feeling as if this emotion was a foreign expression was so damn strange.

"I'm sure they taste fine," he said in an overly content manner, his hand going to the small of Avis' back as he turned to Geoffrey. The boy seemed quite comfortable to be back home, and from the reports the children had been awoken from a magically induced slumber--if they'd been that way for the entire ordeal, no one knew, but it was strange to almost want to thank those bastards for causing the children no harm.

Tomas bent forward as Geoffrey offered a cookie and bit off the gingerbread man's arm. His face contorted at the taste but forced himself to swallow it whole. "Mm--mmmm!"

"It's nice of you to try," she managed with a small smile, curling her arms around his shoulders and pressing a kiss to his clavicle, "but I know they taste bloody terrible, Tomas." She supposed it didn't matter all that much since Geoffrey didn't seem to mind much and he was the one who was having fun, but still. She'd been hoping to give Tomas something nice.

Yes, Geoffrey had been adjusting well -- maybe being raised by Aurors did that to a child, or maybe he really had been in a peaceful sleep for the whole time, who knew. Regardless, she was glad he was doing well.

"I ordered a bit of everything, I wasn't sure what you wanted."
