Corner/Englewood Wedding! For New Year's Eve!
Getting married was absolutely terrifying. No matter how smoothly Gabriel proceeded through the planning, the discussions, and the actual event, he was holding back getting sick the second he could catch a moment to himself. He knew he didn't love Rachel yet, which might be the reason why he was finding himself so nervous as they sat at the head table of their reception, but he did honestly---he did honestly believe that he could fall in love with this woman. She was fiery with a mind of her own, and though some people might be irritated by it, Gabriel actually appreciated the way she took control of things. He had always been a bit of a follower, and it was easy to agree with Rachel because her reasoning simply made sense.

The reception did look fantastic. Gabriel couldn't believe it was all put together within two short months, but then again he was learning that Rachel was a woman who set her goals and refused to leave them unfinished. Maybe he should look at that as a good thing; surely someone who did not want to get married would not have put so much effort into the ceremony? Or she simply wanted to throw the most beautiful wedding of them all, simply because she could. He didn't know, and didn't mind not finding out as long as they remained content with each other.

He did find her very interesting, however, and that was the first thing a Ravenclaw looked for in a spouse. Maybe all of his concerns were for naught, and it was simply wedding day jitters. His parents had been arranged in a similar manner, and they were still quite happily married (and sometimes nauseatingly sweet about it, too). Gabriel turned and smiled at Rachel, pushing his chair out and offering his hand, "Would you like to dance?"

A chorus of glasses clinging supported Gabriel, and he flushed slightly at all the attention that was on them, once again.

Watching one of his best friends get married was something he hadn't imagined happening until they were older. Sometimes he forgot how much was expected from all of them at their age, depending on their families and their status. Gabriel and Donovan were in the same boat, where families arranged their marriages if they didn't find a proper suitor. It was rare, for pureblood relationships to form because they were actually in love with their spouse. He liked Rachel, and she seemed to tolerate all of Gabriel's friends, so he was happy for him. It looked like things would work out well, for the two of them.

He could only hoped that he and Cecilia would be able to least stand to be around each other. They would be spending a lot of time in each others company, so that would make things a lot easier, for the both of them.

Walking through the crowd, Donovan shot a broad smile at his newly wed friend, raising the glass of champagne that was in his hand towards him, as though saying 'cheers!' from across the room. Turning back around, he sipped down the last of his drink, placing it on tray that the waiter was holding. His eyes scanned the crowd, seeing all the couples who were sitting around the tables. Everyone was paired off with someone...except for him.

And her.

His eyes focused on the girl at the bar, his head tilting to the side curiously as he took in her appearance. She was wearing black...and didn't have a date. Putting the clues together, Donovan slowly stepped over towards her, leaning against the bar beside her. The tender looked to him for his order. "Two glasses of champagne." He smirked as a thanks as the man went off to pour them. When he was gone, and it was just the two of them again, he turned towards her. "...Cecilia Hooke, if I'm not mistaken?" When she acknowledged the name, he gave her a small smile. "I would have felt like quite a fool if I hadn't guessed correctly." He straightened up. "Donovan Rookwood. It's a pleasure to finally meet you."

To say that she had been avoiding meeting up with her intended date would have been a lie. Cecilia wasn't avoiding the situation... she was just choosing to not actively search it out. So instead of wandering around the room for the past half hour asking which of the handsomely dressed men was Donovan Rookwood (aside from the fact that, being that he was a groomsmen, she already knew what he looked like from the view during the ceremony), she had instead chosen to lean casually against the bar and wait for the situation to come to her.

A few weeks ago, she would have found it disturbing how... indifferent she felt about what was happening in her life. A few weeks ago, she had been an inconsolable mess, grieving the sudden death of the man she loved--the man that she had actually seen herself marrying, having children with... well, whenever he finally gave in. Now she was faced with a completely different man, one that her parents envisioned her doing those things with, and how did she feel? Cecilia really didn't know.

She wasn't happy, for certain. Evan's death had blown a gaping hole in her heart and she couldn't see herself being happy again anytime soon--if ever, as dramatic as that sounded. But she wasn't upset, either. Sure, she had cried herself to sleep the night her parents had broken the news of her new suitor to her, but after the intial heartbreak, she had begun to think rationally again and. Yes, she may have hated that she had to do this, but it was for her own good. And the sooner the better. Cecilia could not detest anything that might possibly take her mind off of Evan Rosier right now.

So she smiled when he greeted her. And, swallowing the knot in her throat that threatened to bring her to tears at the sight of him and all of the lost dreams he represented, Cecilia took a very long drink of her champagne and put on a hopefully pleasant, bubbly tone. "Mr. Rookwood. I'm relieved that you found me alright. It's a pleasure to meet you as well... I must say, you look far handsomer up close."

It was hard, to not notice the look in her eyes as she turned to face him. He couldn’t describe it, but there was definitely something on her mind. He could only imagine what it was, since she probably had more than enough to be thinking about. What was obvious was that she wanted to act like everything was fine, even though both of them were in a bit of an awkward situation. “It wasn’t nearly as easy as you imagine…especially in this crowd.” He looked around, to make his point. There were people everywhere. The compliment she gave him caused him to chuckle a bit, raising a hand to rub at the back of his neck. “Ah, she flatters.” The corner of his mouth twitched up into another smirk, trying not to act as nervous as he was. Cecilia was, undoubtedly, a beautiful girl…but he didn’t know a thing about her, and their parents weren’t throwing them at each other just so they could form a friendship.

The bartender returned after filling Donovan’s drink order, and he gave the man a nod of his head and a verbal ‘thanks’ this time, watching him place the champagne flutes down on the bar. He cleared his throat quietly, and reached forward to grab one of them, taking a sip of the golden drink. He was suddenly wishing he had started drinking earlier in the night, so he wasn’t so on edge. “So…are you here for Gabriel, or Rachel?” It was at least something to talk about.
