Donovan Rookwood ([info]impulse) wrote in [info]valesco,
He knew that dropping that particular bombshell on Danielle was going to cause her to malfunction for a moment, but he hadn’t been expecting that. His eyes searched hers, even though the entire room seemed to be spinning in that moment. His own head was spinning, working double time to try and think of some sort of solution to all of this where everyone walked out happy – where everyone got what they wanted.

But he feared – no, he knew that wasn’t a possibility…but because of the circumstances, he couldn’t just lay down and accept it. Not yet, anyway. Not until he had someone there who was going to be able to shake some sense into him and lead him in the right direction.

That’s why he had hired Rhys Nott. The man was a damn good lawyer, and not only that, his name had been mentioned at least once by his brother. Donovan really did know more than he should about…well, several people.

Still, that didn’t change the fact that Danielle had just proposed the option of marriage to the man standing before her – a man who she may never see again, should something go awry and he be wrongfully charged with crimes he never committed. He knew that was a possibility, he knew this wasn’t a situation to be taken lightly, but-…

He let out a breath that he hadn’t realized he had been holding, and moved his hands to the side of her neck, pressing a kiss to her lips – one that was over far too quickly, seeing how they still had the guard to worry about. He pulled back from her, and then looked her in the eyes – they were still so close that he was practically going cross-eyed just trying to keep eye contact.

“…you know I want to.”

Really, after everything they had been through, who else was he ever going to find in this world to marry? She had always been ‘the one’, but the timing had never been right for either of them, and they had a lot of shit to work through. He wouldn't say 'I will' or 'I'm going to', because that would make it harder to deal with, God forbid he got sent away to that prison, but he'd assure her that her wants were the same as his - she deserved to know that much.

“I love you…it hurts, how much I love you."
