Danielle
Donovan had come to realize that ever since it had been made public news that he and Danielle were going to have a baby, people thought it was okay to ask them any and every question they could think of – Is it a boy or a girl? Do you have a name picked out? Do you have a theme for the nursery? Is the paint going to be dark or light blue? Are you going to get a nanny?

She wasn’t even far enough along for her to be showing, which made it hard for them to be able to tell them all the things they wanted to know. He was actually kind of surprised by how many times they had to look at each other over he course of the night, like they were trying to kinetically formulate an answer other than ‘we’re not sure’, which was how they answered most of the questions that night. He wanted to be able to talk more about the little boy who wouldn’t be there until late August, but seeing how he was barely even a person yet inside his wife’s belly, it was hard to have all the answers.

Tonight had been especially grueling, seeing how they had been out with a few of his co-workers and their families, and each of them decided that instead of listening to the questions they had already been asked, they were all just going to ask them the same ones over and over again, until the Rookwoods were able to recite their answers like lines from a play. They had just parted ways with the last couple, making their way down the sidewalk towards their house. It was freezing, and he was walking with his arm slinked around Danielle’s waist, allowing her to lean against him as they walked so she wasn’t cold.

“How’re you holding up?”

He asked the question with a subtle lift of his brow, looking down at his wife, wondering if she was as mentally drained as he was.

He took the way she tilted her head as an open invitation, his lips traveling up the side of her neck, letting her cherish each loving kiss before he moved to the next spot. He couldn’t recall off hand the last time they had been intimate with each other beyond the exchanging of kisses or soft caresses, seeing how she hadn’t been feeling well for the last couple of weeks. He didn’t want her to be more uncomfortable than she already was, but he couldn’t help missing the feel of her skin, or the way it always held the faint scent of the clean soap she used, no matter what perfume she might have been wearing that day. It had been too long since he had been with his wife in the way he wanted to be.

Maybe that walk in the cold, fresh night air had done the both of them more good than he originally thought.

“Than how about,” another kiss, “we go upstairs,” yet another, a little higher up, moving their hands to slide across the flat surface of her stomach, getting a better hold on her, “and get you warmed up?”

She reveled in the closeness for a few seconds before twisting in Donovan's arms to kiss him soundly on the lips, her hands going to his face to pull him down to her. Yes, it had been too long, and Danielle suddenly felt fevered into rectifying that. The days since she'd found out she was pregnant had been dragging but flying by at the same time; the days trying to convince felt like such a blur. Life was moving at such a rapid pace now that she and Donovan were married and while it was exciting and thrilling, she wanted to stay in this perfect moment of their lives. No one was trying to take them down, or ruin their marriage, it was just...perfect, they were perfect.

Except for the nausea, they were perfect.

Danielle managed to kick off her heels as they maneuvered in the dark hallway that led to the stairs, unable to break away from each other. She moaned into Donovan's mouth as he pressed up against her, pushing her into the wall beside the staircase. Oh, they did not need to go upstairs, a change of scenery always managed to but a halt on things. Danielle was fine right here, feeling every bit of her husband against her. Her hands squeezed between them to tug on the buttons of his shirt and she felt the hem of her dress begin to ride up because of the wall behind her.

His hands fell to her hips when she turned to face him, his eyes falling closed as he parted her lips with his own, allowing him to deepen their kiss. Every kiss they shared always seemed sweeter than the last, and this was no exception. His tongue massaged against hers as his hand lifted, silky waves of honey and gold folding beneath his palm as he cupped her jaw, blindly following her lead towards the stairs. He let out a grunt of mild surprise when they suddenly stopped moving, one of his hands moving towards the wall in order to brace himself. At this rate they wouldn’t even make it up the stairs.

Donovan let out a breath as her nimble, yet needy fingers worked on unbuttoning the shirt that was acting as a barrier between her hands and his chest. The fingers of the hand that was against the wall curled under as the speed of his breathing picked up, his other hand roaming down to touch the newly exposed area of her thigh. The more he touched her, the more impatient he got, and after keeping her pinned there at the bottom of the stairs for a little while longer – until she was finished unbuttoning his shirt – he eventually moved himself back enough to pick her up, lifting her so that her legs were pressed against either side of his waist, her arms around his neck. Once he was certain he had a secure hold on her, he started them up the stairs, carrying her to the second floor.

He had gone years without her – how he managed to not go completely insane now that he thought back on that period of time when they didn’t even speak, he wasn’t sure. Danielle was his world, even when they were back in Hogwarts and others called them foolish for believing that, even at such a young age, they could be so madly in love.

It felt so good, proving them all wrong.

Dropping into the bed that they'd simply slept in for what seemed like ages felt like heaven, and it was easy to revel in the kisses and caresses. Danielle felt so energetic and invigorated that in her whirl of thoughts she began to devise the idea that sex and the fun things that brought it about were the perfect cure for the baby-related illnesses that she had been suffering through. It was the best kind of solution ever thought up, she believed, and voiced her opinion loudly with a moan as Donovan's hands continued to explore some very familiar territories.

Her hair, which had been twisted into an elegant braid sitting on her shoulder was now pulled apart and disheveled around her head, creating a mad sort of look that matched how she felt. She never doubted that Donovan could make her feel this good in an instant, but it always astounded and amazed her. She was allowed to be impressed with her husband's skills, no?

Getting tangled up in clothes and blankets was sometimes her favorite part; it made finding each other and making that connection feel like some great triumph. Danielle let out a happy, satisfied sigh of a breath before finally kissing Donovan again, her hands planting against the smooth skin of his back to bring him down on top of her.
