WHO: Berkeley Darcy and Sarah Stebbins
WHAT: Berk is freaking out!
WHEN: ERRRR
STATUS: Cristina is posting and commenting here so we don't lose this good thread!

Berkeley had gone past freaking out. There was no way he was any where close to being ready to be a father. Not that he didn’t like Dexter. He did, really, but every step of the way his sister seemed far more excited than he ever did. Even now, Sarah was ecstatic about the fact Dexter was pregnant, if anything that freaked him out even more.

What he really needed was to get away. Just some time to clear his head and think about what he really wanted without any nagging pressure from his sister or girlfriend. Not that Dexter really nagged him about anything. She was just so calm and accepting. Berk wasn’t even sure that she was aware of how much this whole situation was stressing him out.

He was currently shoving some clothes into his duffel bag. His mother had been asking him to come visit for months now, and he had some leave saved up, so why not. If he could get ready in enough time, there was a cargo flight heading to Langley in four hours. From there getting to Wisconsin would be easy. He paused momentary at the knocking at his door debating on answering it or not. No, no good would come from answering the door. Finish packing and go home for the week. That was the plan.

Sarah had a feeling. She had a feeling and it wasn’t a good feeling, and as she knocked furiously on her brother’s door again, Sarah’s free hand went to her stomach for some support. Her brother, while a good man, was also a very straightforward kind of guy. It took a lot to knock Berkeley off of his chosen path, and Sarah was pretty sure that this surprise baby was going to be something to send him flying off the rails. He’d stopped their conversation in the journals, he wasn’t answering her calls, and he’d never connected a floo to his fireplace so here she was, fifteen weeks pregnant and looking for a fight. She and her brother had the best of fights. They’d been doing pretty good for the past year or so but even though Sarah promised herself she was going to try and stay level-headed for the sake of herself, her brother, her baby and his, she also knew that it was going to take a lot more than calm words to keep her brother from losing his mind.

“Berk, come on!” Sarah yelled, banging the door once again. “Just let me in, you’re not allowed to ignore me!”

She frowned, taking in a deep breath before pounding the door again. Part of her wanted to take out her wand, because she was sure Berkeley didn’t have wards on his door like he should have, but she knew that using magic to get into his house would only cause more trouble. “You can’t leave your pregnant sister out here all by herself! It’s dangerous! It’s unconstitutional!”

Berk froze at the sound of his sister’s voice making its way threw the door. There was no way she would let him leave. Sarah would think he was running off or something else drastic that he wasn't doing. There were no wards on his apartment, technically he could just apparate straight from where he was standing and avoid his sister completely. Except he didn't have a safe place to apparate to that wouldn't raise a lot of questions.

He sighed greatly as he shut his bag and tossed it behind the couch on his way to the door. Avoiding his sister was one thing, avoiding his pregnant sister was something completely different. "First of all," he started talking through the door, "you ignored me for years so I think I'm allowed to do the same whenever I want. Second, its not remotely dangerous. And third, I'm pretty sure even if it was unconstitutional, which it is not, it wouldn't apply as we are in Ireland right now."

He leaned on the door frame not yet sure if he was actually going to let his sister in. "Now, what do I owe this pleasure? I don't have long, I need to leave for the base soon."

“Yeah--well---!” she sputtered. She had ignored her brother for much more serious reasons than he was doing to her now. Sarah stomped her foot, looking up and down the empty corridor. She would have no problem yelling and waking his neighbors; she knew how her brother hated this sort of confrontation, drawing attention for no reason (or no good reason), and Sarah was an expert at getting her brother to do what she wanted. Well, she used to be. Sarah wasn’t really sure how much influence she had on Berk anymore.

“Just open the door, I have to go to the bathroom!” Which was partly true, because she always had to go to the bathroom, and why didn’t they make a bigger deal about that when they talked about being pregnant? Everything else was pretty explainable, but peeing twenty times a day? That just wasn’t right.

Sarah dropped her head to the door. Berk sounded calm and relaxed, but that’s what worried her. When her brother was calm, scarily so, there was definitely something brewing. She didn’t trust him not to do something stupid, even if he was under circumstances that would make any young man freak out.

Berk pulled the door open reluctantly. He couldn’t very well not let his pregnant sister use the restroom. “Yeah--well,” he mocked slightly annoyed. He knew why she was here. She was here to ruin things. He had a plan and she was going to ruin it. That’s what Sarah did. Dexter was happily gestating or what ever she wanted to call it, and certainly didn’t need him there to hold her hand. So why not go home.

“You know where it is. I’m leaving in fifteen minutes so...” he made a gesture indicating she should hurry along.

He watched his sister carefully as she made her way to his bathroom, waiting for the moment she was going to start. He just had to effectively answer her questions in a way that would please her, and make he not worry. Not that she had any reason to, he was fine. “Did you come all this way just to use my bathroom? The ones in London not suitable?”

Berkeley frowned at the tone his sister was using, obviously he wasn't going to get out of this one easily. He crossed his arms over his chest when she asked him to promise to stick this out. Just what did she want him to stick out? This wasn't a crappy job you did while you waited for a better one to come along, or a shitty flat you lived in until you could afford a nice one. There was no sticking this out. This was his life. Everything was changing in this very moment and here his sister was asking him to make promises he wasn't sure he could keep.

Which really wasn't fair, he would do anything for his sister. Hell, if he was completely honest he first started dating Dexter because Sarah suggested it. Kept going on about what a great idea it was, Berk half did just so he could stop hearing the same conversation over and over again. And he liked Dexter, really he did, but spending the rest of his life with her wasn't something that he had really considered before. He really hadn't considered settling with anyone for that long.

"I'm going home, Sarah" he said finally after mulling over all the possible choices. Yes, she was going to throw a fit, no she wasn't going to change his mind. At the very least she deserved the truth. All of a sudden there was so much pressure surrounding him and he just needed to get away to think. Where there wouldn't be any judgement and he could feel a little bit less guilty about being selfish. Where Sarah couldn't convince him what she wanted was what he wanted. He wouldn't shirk any financial responsibility. It would be wrong to leave Dexter high and dry like that, but he really needed to decide just how involved he wanted to be.

"Just for a week, maybe two. Mom's been begging me to come for a visit for ages." He said moving over to the couch picking up his duffle that no longer needed to be hidden. "I'll be back. I'm not running away, but even if I were---" Berk shrugged his shoulders as he left his sentence unfinished. Sarah, if anyone, should understand and if she didn't, well she certainly shouldn't be casting any judgement.
