Open to Guests! Posted for Friday
Charlie was bent low as about a dozen tiny hands grabbed, pinched, clambered, and tugged all about him. The moment his niece had begged for a piggy back, a line of ready and willing riders assembled at his table. It was a good thing that Penelope's party was taking place in a park with a nice, grassy area to play about, because his knees would've not only been stained green, but bruised from a hardwood floor.

"Okay, okay," he let out with a breath of exhaustion, standing to his full height (he had to grab hold of Terry Boot's tightly clenched hands as he raised him a foot off the ground). "I need a break. And a drink. Go chase the dog!"

At the sound of DOG, the gaggle of children rushed after Pascal, who had been sitting beside Charlie's older brother as he not so discreetly fed him off the table. Charlie left his jacket folded over the back of the chair on the children's table and made his way over to Penny, loosening his tie. He'd really wanted to look spiffy for this night, but maybe keeping her off her guard, like he wasn't planning on asking her the most important question he'd ever ask anyone, would make this night easier.

"I managed a good half an hour before getting dirty," he said, putting his hands out to take hold of hers, "Are you proud?"

Delilah paused, before taking the drink off Henry without comment. There weren’t many times that he suggest, or rather, insist she drink. She really hoped that was just more proof that Henry just knew her, and not that she was being that transparent. At the very least she was being completely confusing, and why he put up with it was beyond her.

Sipping her drink obediently, Delilah’s gaze jumped around the room before landing back to Henry. She opened her mouth to say something two or three times, each time stopping thinking better of the question she was going to ask. Do you think I’ll ever get married? Should I add being a terrible sister to the list of things wrong with me? Why do you even bother sticking around, surely I don’t pay you enough for it.

“How did you feel,” Delilah started slowly stirring her drink while she picked her words carefully, “ when you found out Seth had gotten married?” It was a fair question, and she didn’t at all break her promise to Charlie, as it had nothing to do with him at all. It certainly wouldn’t be her fault if Henry decided this random question had anything at all to do with this particular party. “I mean back then, Seth was like the last person in the world anyone thought was going to get married. And if he could manage it, well...” She trailed off not really sure how to vocalize the second part of her question.

She felt guilty now that question hung in the air. It wasn’t like Charlie was anything like Seth was, even if she could remember the days when The Tattler was more up to date on his ‘love life’ than she was. Delilah slouched down in her chair. She was proud of Charlie, and so happy for him, she told him as much when they talked the week before. But when he wasn’t around being all happy and nervous, and it was just her, these other thoughts very easily slipped in. She turned her attention back to Henry, “Was it strange for you? Or were you just happy for him?”
