Danielle
It was almost 4 in the morning when Donovan Rookwood finally entered in through his front door, looking as though he hadn’t slept in the last 48 hours - which he hadn’t. Not really, anyway. He had a new case to work on which was taking up so much of his time that he barely had any time to spend with his wife and son. He was damn good at his job, and people knew he got results because he put this kind of time into things, but he had forgotten how much it took to try and find someone as ‘innocent’ when all the evidence was stacked against them. His currently client was a witch who claimed she was innocent against charges of her murdering her own sister, and even her smug attitude made him suspect she at least had something to do with it. Still, it wasn’t his job to have an opinion, it was his job to make sure she didn’t wind up in Azkaban.

He moved around the house as quietly as he could, not wanting to wake Danielle or Cole. He dropped himself down onto the couch, working on removing his tie and draping it across its arm, soon after bringing his hands up to rub at his face. The trial wasn’t the only thing that was preventing him from getting any sleep. There was something going down at the ministry, but he didn’t know what. He heard whispers, but with the way gossip spread like wildfire, he didn’t know what to believe anymore.

He was about to just lay himself across the couch in order to catch an hour or two of sleep when he suddenly heard Cole begin to cry. He hesitated a moment to see if he would be able to get himself back to sleep (he had heard Danielle use the term ‘self soothing’ once or twice), but once it became apparent that he wasn’t going to be able to doze off again, his father hurried to his room, hoping to get there and calm him down before he woke Dani.

“Shh....” He hushed the child as he reached into his crib, taking him into his arms before dropping down onto the rocking chair that was set up, placing him down on his leg so he was facing outwards, Donovan’s arm around his middle in order to support him. “What’re you carrying on about, hm..?” He asked quietly, leaning forward in order to allow Cole to see him. The baby just made a noise before lifting his hand and placing it on his father’s face. Donovan smirked, leaning in to press a kiss to one of his pudgy cheeks before he let out a sigh, bouncing him on his leg a bit. “I swear, you’re as dramatic as your mother.”

She shook her head, keeping hold of his hand while Donovan ventured to get a new bottle for Cole. Danielle smiled at her baby's bright eyes as he rested his chin on his father's shoulder to look back at her, and it marveled her at how she could see so many of her husband's characteristics. Babies had never been something that Danielle had actively thought about having, more like knowing that she would bear children one day, but now she felt as if she'd been destined to be Cole's mother.

Destiny, that was a strange thought for a person as logical as Danielle. Donovan and Cole had made her believe in destiny, and if she lost out on a few hours of sleep so that she could spend some awake and alert time with her boys, then she was fine.

"This case must be the talk of the ministry," she said lightly, taking a seat at the kitchen table. Their once large and open windows had been changed to more secure ones after the attack on their home earlier in the year. They did not let much light in and Danielle often missed the sun or moonlight that used to stream so beautifully into their home. It was simply a precaution they had to take, however, and she'd rather have a few bars on her window than have someone throw a dark magic-laced item through the glass and harm Cole.

"Is there anything I can do to help? I'm rather good at copying notes in a legible manner..."
