Open to Quidditch Guests!
She was a champion.

Holly wouldn't (and couldn't, since she was sure it was well-documented) deny that she had cried. Quidditch had been her life for so long, and to have this stretch of a career without a league cup to call her own, it was hard to deal with. Seasons were long and ehxausting, they took away all your time and energy, and to not win the cup meant that you'd just wasted the year. Sure, there were the fans, there was making personal records, and even the international circuit was fun, but Holly had needed this win so badly that she still got shivers when she thought about it. She'd done it, and she'd been the best.

She sighed, taking in the surroundings. Appleby Park had been transformed into a wonderful setting for the event, the spells on the stadium keeping the guests warm and the night sky bright above them. The league cup sat on its platform in the middle of the dance floor, looking like a glorious holy grail that she'd finally wrapped her hands around. Her husband was here somewhere, but she was lost in the sea of people. Teammates, competitors, agents, and the media, it was simply a night for the game she loved, and Holly couldn't remember a moment when she'd been happier with everything in her life.

As she made her way to the bar, she spotted one of her aforementioned teammates standing off and away from the rest of the guests. Holly, not one to ignore a teammate as she'd taken on the role this past season as, well, a mother-hen (but don't tell Theo), she couldn't ignore the nagging feeling in the back of her head.

"You're missing all the fun," she said, taking their elbow. When Holly finally got a good look at their face, she frowned, "What's wrong? It looks like you've seen a ghost."

Veronica had begun to worry that if Rich kept allowing his hair to grow, it would eventually become even longer than hers. She hadn't minded the scruffy mountain man look, but it was nice to be able to rake her fingers through his hair without worry of getting snagged on a knot. There had been a few instances where he had fallen asleep on her lap and she had taken to braiding his hair out of boredom, always telling him he was so pretty whenever he woke up. He never even got mad, which just made her grin even wider when he didn't realize what had happened until he went to look in the mirror.

She couldn't have been happier in the relationship she had with one of her best friends. Every day she woke up next to him, she asked herself why she had never thought she had a chance, or that he could never possible want anything more than a platonic relationship with her, since that was what they had for so long. The thought of losing him terrified her, and since they had both gotten the Valesco virus, she was much more concerned about his well being. She just didn't want to be overbearing or neurotic, so she didn't let on to how worried she actually got, even when he had something as minor as a cold.

Feeling his hand on her shoulder, she turned around to acknowledge his presence, snickering as she took the glass of wine from him. "Well, I know how much you love to feel heroic, so how can I refuse?" She gave him a grin, leaning forward to give him a quick kiss, quickly lifting her hand to wipe her lipstick from the bottom of his lower lip. She was glad he was so tall, since she could wear heels and not feel like a giant. He was only about an inch taller than she was, in her current footwear. Taking a sip of her wine, she looked around.

"This is quite the turn out." She looked over at him again. "I'm sure it would have been even more spectacular had the Wasps won the cup." She smiled at him again, trying to be supportive as she looped her arm through his, glad that he hadn't been too sour about how his team had placed at the end of the season.

He couldn't help the slight face he made when Veronica mentioned the cup and the Wasps. He knew it wasn't fooling anyone that moving to the team hadn't exactly been a step up as much as a step -- well, to be generous, more or less to the side -- but he was happier on the team. It was a little less pressure and a little more freedom to be a loose cannon, both things that he appreciated.

Besides, spending more time with Veronica and less time with Sumpter breathing down his neck wasn't anything to sneeze at either. He chuckled, placing his free hand on her waist to guide them toward a nearby seat. "I don't know about the turn-out, other than Bagman's angry ex-girlfriends. Still, it might've been a little more exciting." The crowd was lively, certainly, but he'd always preferred the rough-and-tumble bar crowd. Even after years of playing the field, he still felt a bit out of shape in his suit.

"I think you're just excited to get home and grab the scissors so you can hack my mop off," he mused, taking her hand in his and turning it over. He was much more comfortable with her than anyone else here, and it showed. He wasn't reclusive, just -- well, he wanted to be comfortable right now. Comforted, even, and that was something only Veronica could really do.

"We could have placed bets on which of the aforementioned angry ex-girlfriends would win in a cat fight." She knew losing to the Arrows had been disappointing, but that didn't change the fact that he had played extremely well throughout the entire season. She was extremely proud of him, though she knew nothing she could say would really make up for losing the cup. She didn't have anything that could be considered an equivalent goal to reach in her career, but she had been friends with Rich and Griff long enough to know how much hard work they put in every year.

Lowering herself down into her seat, she took another sip of her wine before placing it down on the table, giving him her full attention as he spoke. Her lips curled upwards at his prediction, her free hand reaching out to take some of his golden strands between her fingertips, playing with the ends. "I'm actually going to miss it a little bit," she admitted. "It suits you. What I'm not going to miss is the way you shed during the winter," she teased with another grin, lowering her hand to absentmindedly adjust his tie. "I'm convinced you're part dog. If anyone should ever want to make a polyjuice potion and wear your face - and such a very nice face it is - they would have to look no further than our living room to get what they would need."

"Hey, we should just both be grateful we'll never have to worry about me going bald," he mused with a shake of his head. "Good genes are supposed to run in families, right? So if we ever have kids, they'll be blessed with a real mess of hair to begin with. Come out of St. Mungo's with barettes in their hair and everything."

...had he just casually mentioned children? It was something he'd been thinking about more and more lately, admittedly, with how careful he'd become over the last season of Quidditch. If he was going to keep himself from breaking bones, he might as well have a good reason for it. He tilted his head into her touch and smirked. "At least I don't smell like dog -- except maybe after practice." It was true that he sweated up a storm, and came home often rather -- damp, if he was in a hurry to see Veronica.

"If you're all that fond of it, though, I'm sure I could keep it a little longer. Or maybe just a grow an impressive beard."

The thought of him going bald made her nose scrunch a little, not able to imagine him without any hair after knowing him to have so damn much of it for as long as she had known him. The thought of him having a receding hairline didn't last very long, getting sidetracked by the mention of children. The subject had never been brought up in conversation before, let alone so casually. It caught her by surprise, seeing how she had always wondered whether or not he wanted to have kids. Not that she spent all her time dwelling on it, but she was already a few years into her thirties and had been in a serious relationship with the same man for quite some time. Marriage and kids were bound to cross her mind now and again. She wasn't in any rush, but she would be lying if she didn't get a little anxious about the thought of being a spinster.

"You think we'd have girls?" She questioned through a smile with a lift of her brow, the mention of barrettes making her wonder if maybe that was what he wanted. She wasn't going to dwell on the subject for too long, but it was definitely one she wanted to revisit in the near future. This was probably not the best time or place to be having such a talk.

"Ooh, how tempting." Her voice was dripping with sarcasm, smirking. "While I'm a fan of the hobo-chic look, I can't braid a beard...but it wouldn't stop me from trying." Her eyes twinkled with child-like mischief before she reached out to grab her glass of wine, taking a sip.

"Girls? Probably, knowing my luck." He wasn't all that thrilled by the idea, if only because girls seemed a little more delicate and he wasn't sure what he'd do if he accidentally dropped one or something like that -- and the thought of having to deal with snot-nosed teenage boys when the girls came of age made his skin crawl. He flexed his fingers as she spoke about braiding his beard, raising his eyebrow.

"Now you're just tempting me to grow it out. That's a slippery slope you've started me on, Miss Veronica Zeller. I'm going to bring it into popularity through Quidditch and all the wives of the world will have to blame you for having to learn how to braid beards."

The thought of Rich having a daughter was definitely entertaining, snickering as she imagined what it might be like. She liked to think that she was pretty well behaved in her youth, usually keeping to herself, more content reading a book in the Ravenclaw tower than going out to try and get some boys attention. Bess, on the other hand, was the one that gave their parents anxiety during her teenage years.

"Well you know how much I love being a trend setter," she said with another light laugh. "Maybe I'll make an instructional picture book. It'll fly off the shelves. I could do autograph signings and everything. Oh, maybe I'd even meet Gilderoy Lockhart, that dream boat."

He smiled, waving a hand to the side. "You know, I don't see how this could possibly backfire. You become a famous author and we'll have all the money in the world to spoil a whole football team's worth of children with."

Right, because the idea of having a herd of kids was something he'd seriously considered. Children at all, certainly, but he hadn't wanted to force Veronica into anything she wasn't ready for. They'd been friends for so long that he was still worried about mucking things up one way or another, eventually.
