Hogsmeade Valentine's Spectacular! Friday, the 14th
Now, Holly was definitely not someone who enjoyed the frills and lace of Valentine's Day. Usually, she hated it, it was in the top five list of things she hated, but this year? She felt like celebrating. It had been a damn good year, and Holly was taking every opportunity to showcase the good bloody mood she'd been in. Sure, there had been its blips (McCormack owed her quite some bit), and each moment made her appreciate each and every day.

But that was the sort of sappy stuff she and her husband didn't say, so that was why she had insisted that their visit to Hogsmeade tonight was to crack jokes and judge the couples that took this holiday way too seriously.

It was turning out to not be as horrendous as one may have thought. Hogsmeade was a village on display, each store front lit up with lights, the street lamps giving off sprays of glitter and confetti as couples walked past. The different food places had set up heating spells around outside tables and counters, the aroma completely filling her every sense. The lake had turned into a beautiful ice rink, while a magical ferris wheel lit up the sky. The village had always amazed her, knowing that it was the only place in the country wizards and witches could be completely at ease with their magic outside of Hogwarts.

"Good thing they didn't let the kiddies out," Holly said, eyes catching sight of the castle in the distance. "They'd ruin the romance."

- Hogsmeade is open to all! The village streets are sort of like a Valentine's fair, hosted by Madam Puddifoot's (so you know there's some cheesy stuff).
- For some ADDED FUN, a little trickster has laced the chocolate supply with a truth serum. The amount of chocolate your character ingests, the more truthful/the longer they are under its spell. Soo...that could lead to some fun, y/y? >:D
- ALSO, for players on non British Isles teams, this is the last weekend to be home because practice for the WC starts after Valentine's Day! So get those feels out because you're shipping out!

Grail!

Scarlett could be sure that she had never had a Valentine.

She didn't think of this in a foul way, she simply mused; any boyfriend she may have had was never around this time, and Scarlett did not go looking for a bloke simply for the holiday. She did not understand the excitement some of her friends would get into (Devon's Valentine's were always spectacular), but when she'd noted the Hogsmeade event that was displayed in the paper the other night to Grail and he'd asked her if she wanted to go, she'd surprised herself with her immediate 'yes.'

It was surprising! She was not used to being...such a girl, she supposed.

With all the treats that lined the streets, Scarlett really couldn't find a reason to complain. Of course, Grail being on her arm was the biggest treat of all (was there really something in the air on Valentine's?) and she pulled him toward the Honeydukes storefront. Scarlett would definitely bet that the stores had put some alluring spells on their products, because she simply wanted everything.

"Do you have a favorite candy?" she asked Grail, picking up a prettily wrapped truffle from the buffet of delights.

Scarlett and Grail had very different experiences when it came to the so called ‘holiday’ that came around every February. Darren was always particularly busy during that time of the year, back before he had met Devon, leaving Grail to fend for himself, hopping from one place to another to appease the pretty, lonely barflies that congregated in the dingiest of places. He wasn’t particularly proud of being the one to swoop in and make them forget about the men who had dumped them, though being Grail he couldn’t say he was ashamed either. As far as he was concerned, what was in the past was in the past; unless of course it was something he obsessed over and couldn’t let go. In that instance he was perfectly justified, holding a grudge.

This year was different, though. This year he actually had a steady girlfriend to spend Valentine’s Day with; not that he thought much of the holiday. Truth be told he thought it was all a load of rubbish, but time he had a girlfriend on February 14th, he was with Cass, and the majority of the day had consisted of cutting out paper hearts to entertain Pansy until her sitter had arrived. It really wasn’t anything special, as far as he was concerned. It was just a commercial holiday that made lonely people even more lonely. It wasn’t any more romantic than any other day of the year, though Grail Yates was far from a romantic.

He could admit that this year he hated the so called holiday a lot less than he had in years past. He hadn’t really planned on doing anything special – he would likely ask Darren for advice on what to get her without seeming like a sap, not knowing the first thing about flowers or anything else females tended to squeal over when they were presented with ribbons of red and pink. Not that he really thought Scarlett would go gaga for a pile of roses or a nicely scented candle, but he would have been a git to not get her anything just because he thought she wouldn’t appreciate them as much as another bird might; like Devon, for example, who had been more excited to find out that he was taking her to Hogsmeade than Scarlett seemed to be.

There was a reason he was growing fonder of the beautiful brunette as the months ticked by. Hell, the mere fact that the time flew by so fast had to mean something. She was easy to please; she didn’t make him feel like he had to go to great lengths to make her happy. She was just as satisfied with a burger as she was a grade A steak, which worked fine for him since he could barely afford his rent. She was a Quidditch star who was about to play for the world cup, and if Grail was the type to be intimidated, he would have been. He did wonder what the bloody hell she saw in him from time to time, since she certainly wasn’t using him for anything; he thought it had made it pretty obvious that he didn’t want anything from her other than her company, so things were pretty good. More than good, actually. It worried him a little, since he had this nagging feeling that things were about to go terribly wrong, but he had never been a very good optimist. For now, he was just going to appreciate the fact that he didn’t have any strong urges to hex some of the sickeningly cute couples who were exchanging Eskimo kisses on nearby benches. That was a big step for Grail. Scarlett seemed to bring out the best in him, even if she didn’t know it.

As she dragged him towards Honeydukes and presented her question to him, he was silent as he mulled it over. “Y’know I never really thought about it,” he admitted, looking at what there was to choose from. “I’ve always had a sweet tooth, but I’ve never been particularly choosey. I’m not fond of chocolate frogs, though. I prefer my candy to not have the opportunity to escape,” he said with a smirk, plucking out a truffle of his own. “I used to cheat with Bertie Botts though,” he recalled with a chuckle. “Darren and I used to cut off the tiniest bit where no one would notice, just to know the flavor, re-box them, and leave them for Aland.” He snickered again. “Poor bastard never caught on. Darren and I just kept insisting he got a bad batch.” He popped the truffle into his mouth. “And what about you? Any favorites I should know about?”

Her eyes went wide as she listened to his Bertie Botts treachery, slowly chewing her chocolate. Scarlett had many failed attempts at choosing the right jelly bean to eat, and could quite literally imagine the torture that they'd put their friend through. In the few times she had met Aland, he hadn't seemed too bright, and she would have felt bad if she didn't know how utterly hilarious one's face looked when biting into a pepper-flavored Bertie Botts.

"Remind me never to take candy from you," she said with a pointed gaze, crumpling up the candy wrapper and sticking it in her pocket. Scarlett pondered his question as she chose a few more treats to stash away in her pocket, and then let out a satisfied hum as her answer came to mind, "Any mixture of peanut butter and chocolate. I nearly forgot about the hidden box in my locker, I've had to put a cloaking spell on it so Carys doesn't throw it out---or eat it herself."

That had been a secret she'd held onto for quite some time, even if it was rather silly. Scarlett had just thought that having to hide away her sweets from her captain was silly, so why bother letting anyone know? It so easily slipped from her tongue that she blamed it on her comfort level with Grail, and that was a good thing. The mention of her captain, and quidditch, reminded her that the English team practices were going to start soon, and she turned into him, pressing against his chest.

"New York is only two weeks away," she said, unable to hide her pout. It was hard to think about being so far away from Grail for such a long period of time. Her gloved hands curled into his and she lifted her chin. "I'm going to miss you terribly."

He let out a chortle at her reaction to the story, thinking about what she would say if she knew that was nothing in comparison to some of the other shit they had put Aland through. Really, giving him some less than satisfying beans was child’s play. “What? Don’t you trust me?” He asked, feigning innocence before he gave her a devious grin, shoving the empty truffle wrapper into his back pocket.

When she started answering his question, he found himself smirking again. There was just something about her that was incredibly endearing; even listening to her tell him about her favorite kind of candy seemed like the most interesting thing. The feeling of being so enamored was foreign to him. The only people he felt he truly knew were Darren and Aland, though that was because they had grown up together. Grail wasn’t necessarily an open book, so getting him to divulge in even the smallest bit of information about himself was usually like pulling teeth.

“Your secret’s safe with me,” he assured her, his arms wrapping around her as she leaned into him. When she reminded him of what little time they had before she would be on the other side of the bloody globe, Grail let out a light sigh. His eyes searched hers as she told him she would miss him; the admission took him by surprise, though he didn’t know why. Maybe it was because he wasn’t used to people giving a shit.

“I’ll miss you too,” he responded after a beat, though the words seemed to escape without him meaning them to. “I guess that means we’re just going to have to make the most of the next two weeks, yeah? Create memories and whatnot.” The corner of his lip twitched upwards into a short lived smirk, though he had definitely thought about her leaving more than he’d admit. A hand lifted in order to tuck some of her hair behind her ear. “I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself while you’re away.”

She could honestly say now that she knew what it felt like to have your heart flutter. The feeling sent pleasure throughout every inch of her body and Scarlett let out a breath. When she was on the pitch, all she could focus on was quidditch, but the moment she dismounted her broom her thoughts traveled to Grail and when and where she was going to see him next. What an infatuation. Two weeks! Two weeks was nothing. Scarlett was sure that those two weeks were going to fly by, and that the month spent in New York was going to drag out for an eternity.

"And you won't forget about me?" she worried out loud. Scarlett's mouth shut into a thin line, eyes widening. How had she allowed herself to voice such a concern? Of course, it was an honest one, a truthful one; a month was a long time to be without someone, and while she cared deeply for Grail, she had been holding back---what if he grew tired of waiting, and found someone that would give him the company and attention he desired?

Scarlett ducked her eyes away, not enjoying her sudden lack of filtering of her thoughts and concerns. She was a much stronger woman than that, she shouldn't have let such a silly worry get the best of her! It was strange, and she felt her face heating up.

"Sorry," she muttered, "I'm just worried you might replace me because we haven't had sex yet oh my God!" Scarlett jumped away from Grail, covering her mouth with her hands. What had she just said? WHAT! Why---"I didn't! I don't know why I said that oh my God!"

Her question caused one of his brows to lift slightly above the other, caught off guard by the sudden display of insecurity. She looked just as surprised by it as he did, which made him even more curious as to what on earth had compelled her to ask such a question. He could practically feel the heat coming off her cheeks, clearly embarrassed.

But then she kept talking, and it wasn’t long before both of his brows were raised as she very bluntly brought up a subject they had been tiptoeing around for quite some time. His first instinct was to laugh, merely because he didn’t know how else he was supposed to react, though he quickly stepped forward towards her before she began having a panic attack in the middle of the street.

“Sorry, I’m not laughing at you,” he explained, reaching for her hands so that she could no longer cover her mouth. She seemed mortified; something told him that she wasn’t just choosing to spout off everything that came to mind, and he pulled her closer to him. “Look at me,” a hand went to her chin, not giving her a choice in the matter. “I’m not going to forget about you. I’m not going to replace you, either.” He placed his hand on the side of her face. “Despite the fact that I’m going to want to kick my own ass for sounding so melo-fuckin’-dramatic, I feel the need to let you know you’re worth waiting for.” And he really did feel the need, causing him to really begin to wonder what the hell was going on. “I’d be a liar if I didn’t admit that sometimes it drives me crazy how bad I want you, but you’re the only one I want.”

There was definitely something going on; what he was saying was true, but it wasn’t anything he would have chosen to say had he the choice. He sounded like a sap, and his words were making him vulnerable which made his skin twitch. He felt like a nerve had just been exposed.

Scarlett had never been someone who was moved by words alone. She was a woman of action, she needed to see things done and proven; words were just words until the job was finished. But Grail's proclamations about his feelings for her sent her heart into palpitations and she felt light-headed and dizzy. She hadn't doubted that he cared for her, it was evident when they were together, but to hear him speak so openly and freely completely knocked her off her feet. Scarlett believed his words, and she felt her worries begin to melt away.

She could be sure now, that he wouldn't get up and leave after they took that next step. Her first time had been---it had felt amazing, there was no doubt, but even though she knew it had been the whirlwind and magic of the evening that had led her to those choices and decisions, the one-night stand had left her feeling lonelier than she'd ever felt. She didn't---Scarlett cherished the relationships in her life, Devon's friendship being evidence of that; she didn't want to give all of herself to someone who she wouldn't see after breakfast the next morning.

Grail wanted only her, and she believed that taking that next step would only bring them closer.

Her smile grew devious. Scarlett let out a breath, gripping his hands tightly. "Perhaps...we could go back to your flat to create some memories?"
