WHO: Richard and Veronica
WHAT: OMFG CRISTINA IS A SLAVEDRIVER
WHERE: IT'S A SECRET
WHEN: FEB 15 BECAUSE FEB 14 IS TOO CLICHE

Richard wasn't very good at grand, sweeping gestures when it came to romance. When he was on the quidditch field, swinging himself around and risking danger -- that was different than standing in front of a beautiful woman. He'd never really seen his parents as romantic people, either -- they were too busy for their children, let alone for each other.

That's why he'd had to think long and hard about exactly how to do this thing that he was preparing for. He thumbed the box containing the ring in his pocket and let out a breath he hadn't been aware he was holding, straightening up and grabbing one of the large pink boxes that the delivery man he'd paid off said he was going to be taking into the bakery. He pulled five stuffed cupcakes out of his pack and put them into one of the boxes, placing the ring box in the front-centre hole inside an empty cupcake liner.

Then he pulled down his 'delivery boy' cap and headed up to the front door, ringing the bell and clearing his throat.

"Delivery, Miss Zeller!" He tried his best to disguise his voice, not wanting her to recognize him just yet. That wouldn't make for a very good surprise, now would it? He'd told Veronica he was heading out to the Cup a day early to make sure that he was fully prepared for dealing with his team, but that -- well, it had just been a flat-out lie.

She let out a soft laugh at his reply, carefully placing the packages down on the counter. “Good answer,” she said with a grin, tilting her head back to look at him. A content hum was given as he kissed the side of her neck, placing one of her hands over his to give it a squeeze, carefully shifting in order to pull her wand from her apron so she could remove the tape from the packages with a swift flick of her wrist. She was waiting on a new piping tool, but she couldn’t imagine why there were so many other boxes…

One pink parcel got her attention, brows furrowing as she pulled it towards her. “That’s odd… This one wasn’t taped.” Who sent something without sealing it up first? There was part of her that was a little nervous about opening it – she had dated Alastor Moodie for a while, and he always had to double, sometimes triple check a box before he would open it, God forbid it explode, or be filled with some sort of toxin. She wasn’t an Auror, and didn’t have any enemies, so the chance of it being something dangerous were slim to none, but she did lift it to gauge its weight before nimble fingers worked on lifting the cardboard to peek inside.

The first thing she noticed were the cupcakes, though before she had time to admire them for being adorable, her focus went to the black box that had been placed in the arrangement. Well, this certainly wasn’t the piping tool she had been waiting on. Her fingers outstretched to touch the jewelry box. Veronica was a logical person, it wasn’t hard for her to connect the dots, but she also didn’t want to jump to conclusions God forbid she was wrong. Picking up the box, she very slowly opened it, only catching a glimpse of the ring before she quickly shut it again, her heart pounding in her chest as she turned around to face him.

“Rich…?”

It was all she could say, not really knowing how to tactfully ask him if this was what she thought it was. Her hands were still tightly clutching the jewelry box that she was so sure he had placed there.

Well, that hadn't taken long. He'd personally been hoping that she would look at the other boxes first, if only to quell some of his nervousness while he gathered his thoughts a little. Now that things were actually happening, he was certain something was going to go wrong and he'd somehow ruin the moment irreversibly -- it wasn't as if he ever really knew what to say around Veronica, after all. It was one of the reasons he'd taken so long, asking her on that first date -- he hadn't wanted to ruin what they had.

He could start there, he supposed.

"Veronica," he placed his hands over hers, well aware that she was holding the little black box in her cupped palms, "you know I'm not very good at this kind of thing. You know that neither of us wanted to ruin what we had as friends by letting things get ... romantic," he squeezed her hands in his, glancing down at the way her delicate fingers all but hid beneath his large (and admittedly hairy) ones, "but I've never had any doubt that you are the best thing to happen to me. It was great when we were just friends, but now that we've been together ... I know that I can't be apart from you."

He swallowed, turning her hands over so he could take the box from her. He picked the ring up carefully, lifting his eyes to meet hers.

"Veronica, I'd like you to be my wife -- if you'll have me."
