Oh, he didn't care about her hair. He just needed her attention on him before he flung the big bundle of balloons he'd had hidden behind him into the room. Of course, the quick disillisionment spell helped, and the spell was off the second he unfurled the balloons into the hospital room. Tomas reveled in their rainbow like majesty and came into the room under the curtain of balloon strings.
"Happy birthday!" he cheered quietly, sitting on the end of her bed, a brightly wrapped present sitting on his lap. Inside was a rather nicely put together set of all of Jane Goodall's publications---there weren't a lot, but Tomas had heard her going on about the woman with Erin, and had taken the idea and run with it. Also---he'd managed to find the films of the Chimp Woman (that's how Tomas had been referring to her when he couldn't remember her name at the library), and the projector was tightly packed inside of the box (with a bit of help of sizing charms).
And her paperwork was cushioning it all, so she had to at least look at the rest of the gifts before getting to it.
"Here." Tomas presented her with the box, and then smirked. "And your hair looks fine."
