Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry

Pansy wasn't expecting company. No one ever really came to see her unless they were having a crisis, but as far as she knew, he friends were completely fine. Happy even. Then again, they were all always much more happy than she was. She was kind of miserable, especially now that everyone around her seemed to have a steady companion.

So, when the maid came to tell her that someone was at the door, Pansy was a bit surprised. She looked herself over in the mirror and smoothed her dress down, tucking a piece of stray hair that had fallen back up. She walked to the door and gave an odd look when Theodore Nott stood on the other side. "... Hello."

Theodore wasn't sure he deserved that look. He smiled at Pansy, deciding to stand his ground. He'd come over unannounced, but he enjoyed feisty women and Merlin had done a fairly good job setting him up with Pansy. Even if getting hold of her again hadn't been easy, and Merlin was currently too busy having some sort of crisis to take Theo's calls about her.

"Hello," he said. Flowers had seemed like a bit much so he hadn't brought Pansy anything, but now he wished she had. At least she already looked dressed for going out. "Can I take you out for lunch?" Theo asked, raising an eyebrow at Pansy. "We've only got two weeks left of summer."

Pansy had not anticipated a boy coming over to take her out to lunch. Especially not Theodore Nott. Sure, they'd gotten along, somewhat, but she hadn't thought that it warranted lunch. However, she was now very thankful that she'd shaved her legs that morning.

"Lunch?" She looked down at her dress. "I would need to get cleaned up a bit to actually leave the house. Where do you want to go?"

Theodore looked Pansy over and then raised an eyebrow. "You're not cleaned up enough already?" he asked. "You look good to me. You're very pretty." Theo would probably do better with girls if he understood them better. He could get a girl in bed easily enough, but keeping them around was more difficult.

"I was thinking we'd go somewhere new," he said. "There's this bistro that opened up a few blocks down from my flat. French, I think. We could go there."

"This is a lounging outfit. Something I wear around the house or visit friends in." Pansy pointed out, looking down at the dress. "It's not something I'd go out in and let people take photographs of me in."

She let him come inside and shrugged. "I'll only be a minute. My hair is fine. You can wait here." She told him as they entered the sitting room. She ran upstairs and changed into a nicer dress and better shoes, freshening up her makeup before she came back down. "We can go now."

Pansy did look nice when she came down. Theo smiled at her. "You clean up well," he said, getting to his feet and offering her his arm. "I have a car waiting downstairs. Do they take photos of you a lot?"

He led Pansy to the door of her apartment, nodding to the maid who'd gotten Pansy for him. So far, this was going very well. Theo just had to try and get through lunch without starting an argument.

Pansy felt kind of odd about all of this. About Theodore just coming to her door, somehow having tracked her down, and then taking her out for lunch. It didn't make any sense, really. Not when she thought about it. She chewed at her bottom lip.

I think a French bistro sounds good." She told him, then cleared her throat. "Being Draco Malfoy's friend comes with it's prices."

"Merlin's always going on about him," Theo said, after a moment. Taking about what he knew of Pansy's friend seemed fairly safe. "They've been friends since they were small, right? If you get him drunk enough, he won't shut up about Draco Malfoy, and then he expects you not to have figured out that he's gay."

He rolled his eyes. "People always think they're so good at hiding their secrets. The bistro is supposed to be good." Theo stepped into the lift with Pansy and pushed the button for the ground floor.

Pansy gave Theodore an odd look when he mentioned Merlin being gay. "We're not going to talk about that. If he wanted to talk about it, he would talk about it to you by himself. Merlin doesn't like me as it is. I don't need to give him another reason."

She smiled at him and looked around the lift for a moment, wondering what the two of them would even have in common. "What... made you look for me?"

"I liked you," Theodore said, looking at Pansy and shrugging. "And I didn't think you'd mind me looking. We got along well enough, I thought. I enjoyed spending time with you."

He didn't know what they'd have in common either, but evidently Merlin hadn't been that thing so he'd have to try again. "I thought we got along well enough, after the fight. This time I think we should skip the fighting and go straight to the getting along part."

Pansy arched a brow at that. He was awfully sure that they'd get along, or that they should at least try. And sure, they'd gotten along fine, but, she barely knew anything about him. They'd not talked long.

"And if I don't like a single thing about your personality?" Pansy asked, looking him over. "What if you're a truly rubbish person?"

"I'm not," Theo said, raising an eyebrow at Pansy. "Should I be worried that you are, since you're already worrying I might be rubbish? There are a lot of places between soul mate and enemy."

He led her out of the lift, getting the door for her and then walking her to his waiting limo. "If we don't like each other, it's only been a couple hours in one afternoon. I'll drive you back home and we'll say our goodbyes. No harm done. That's how a first date works."

Pansy smiled at him and got into the car, then looked back at the boy beside her. "I was only joking with you, Theodore. If i thought you were rubbish for even a moment, I wouldn't have agreed to come out with you."

She crossed her legs and looked at his car. He was clearly very rich. "How long have you known Merlin?"

"A few years," Theo said, shrugging and glancing at Pansy. "We share similar interests and travel in a lot of the same circles. He'd just never bothered introducing me to his other friends before this. You're younger, right?"

He pushed a button and instructed the driver to take then to the bistro, then smiled at Pansy. "I had heard some things about you, but for the most part he concentrates on Draco when he talks about his other friends."

"I'm only a year younger than he is. Not even. More like seven months." Pansy admitted, shrugging. "He probably makes it seem like it's much more. He calls me immature." Which, she hated. Merlin was a bastard.

She looked at Theodore. "I'm not as bad as he says. He doesn't like me because I take away attention from him when it comes to Draco."

"Merlin is about forty on the inside," Theodore pointed out, laughing at the slightly grumpy expression on Pansy's face. "I didn't think you were more than a year younger than him. As far as I know, outside of Blaise and I most of Merlin's friends are his sister's age."

He raised an eyebrow at Pansy. "I don't think Merlin's told me anything bad about you," he said. "Nothing irredeemably bad, anyway. He can be judgmental."

"He grew up with us. And his mother's brother is one of Draco's fathers." Pansy pointed out. "That's how long they've known each other. Since birth. I came in not long after and he hated me from then on."

Pansy crossed her legs. "Judgmental is an understatement. He's a petty tyrant who has locked me in closets."

Theo laughed at that, although he was sure it hadn't been pleasant for Pansy. "He locked you in closets?" he repeated, raising an eyebrow. "That's a side of Merlin I haven't seen before. I want to know more about his psychopathic youth."

He shook his head at the thought of it. "I guess it's safe to say he's the jealous type. I'll have to tell Blaise about that if he ever meets Draco. Blaise is a flirt."

"He's more than a psychopath. He's a sociopath." Pansy informed Theodore, shaking her head. "He can make anyone like him and think he's a good person. I know better. I know different."

Pansy arched a brow at that. "Draco would slaughter him." She shook her head. "Draco nearly killed Thoreau for hitting on him and we're all friends. Let alone an outsider."

Theodore was amused by the animosity Pansy clearly felt for Merlin. Merlin was very intelligent and definitely had a knack for getting his own way, but Theodore wouldn't classify him as a sociopath. "I'll make sure I'm around when Blaise meets him, then. It sounds like it'll be fun to watch."

He smiled at Pansy as they pulled up outside the bistro, getting out of the car first so he could open her door for her. "Sociopaths run the country already. It's best to get on Merlin's good side now and take advantage of his position later."

Pansy looked at Theodore for a moment and shook her head. "No thanks. I think I'd rather be a starving girl he hates than to be prosperous from being his friend." She admitted, looking up at the bistro.

She sighed softly when her picture was taken, then tugged on Theodore's hand. "Let's go."

Theodore glanced back at the person who had taken Pansy's photo as they walked into the bistro. "I'll make sure we don't get a table near a window," he said. "You weren't kidding about the photographers."

He had then taken to a booth in the middle of the table, taking the seat facing the window so there'd be less of her to photograph. "Do they stalk you often?" he asked. "My family's wealthy, but I've never had a problem with paparazzi being interesting in me. I suppose I've never spent much time with a public family like the Malfoys though."

"They think that Draco and I are an item, even though I've pointed out that we aren't." Pansy shrugged, looking at Theodore. "They think I'll be Malfoy royalty one day."

She looked down at the menu and hummed thoughtfully. "I don't know what I want. Do they have cheesecake here?"

Theodore laughed at that. Even before he'd met Draco, it had been pretty clear to him from the photos of the other boy that appeared in the popular press that he was not straight. "Do they also think you're blind?" he asked. "You're a smart girl and even an idiot could see that Draco Malfoy is gay."

He picked up the dessert menu and handed it to her. "I'm going to get a sandwich and a cup of tea, I think."

Pansy took the menu from him and shrugged. "He's bisexual. At least, that's what he tells himself." She informed Theodore, shrugging. "I think it helps him sleep better at night."

Her eyes moved over the menu until she found the cheesecake. "I think I'll get the chocolate cheesecake with a side of strawberries. I had a salad earlier."

"You don't have to justify your cheesecake to me," Theo promised Pansy, laughing as he signaled the waiter over to their table. "I like a girl who knows what she wants."

He ordered for both of them, since Pansy had told him what she wanted anyway, then raised an eyebrow at her. "So I know you're not dating your gay friend. What else will I learn about you today?"

Pansy arched a brow and grinned, looking at Theodore. "Well. I don't know, really. It depends on the questions you ask me and whether or not I want to answer them for you. That's how this works."

She tapped her fingers on the table. "What am I going to learn about you? You haven't given up any information either."

"Fine," Theodore said. "Tell me what you want to do with your life. Besides eat cheesecake." He leaned back in his chair as their drinks were delivered to them. "Although I heartily approve of your passion for cheesecake. I'd rather spend time with a girl who eats than one who's constantly picking at her food."

He fixed his cup of tea with a squeeze of lemon, then took a sip. "You can ask me whatever you'd like. I'm an open book."

Pansy snorted at that. "I do watch what I eat. But, cheesecake is my only vice. I can't help it. It's just so good." She paused. "And macrons, but we won't get into that."

She took a drink of the juice that was delivered for her and arched a brow. "That's very loaded. I could ask you anything." She pointed out. "Are you sure you don't want to take that back?"

"No," Theodore said, shrugging. "Anything. As long as you actually answer my question as well. I don't have anything I'm ashamed of and I trust you to be tactful enough not to ask traumatizing questions about my dead mother."

He raised an eyebrow at her. "So? What do you want to know?"

"I don't know you well enough to ask traumatizing questions about your mother." Pansy pointed out, snorting. "Not yet, at least. Those will come in time, when I've learned more about you."

She hummed thoughtfully. "Do you hit on girls very often, Theodore? Pick them up randomly and take them to lunch?"

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]theonott
2013-04-29 03:55 am UTC (link)
"No, I don't," Theo said, shrugging simply. "I hit on girls often enough, but I don't normally take them out to lunch. Usually I find a girl I like at a party or when I'm out at a pub with friends and I hit on them there."

He took a sip of his tea. "You still haven't told me what you want to do with your life. I'm starting to feel like you're avoiding the question."

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]floral
2013-04-29 03:58 am UTC (link)
Pansy thought about the question. She didn't know what she wanted to do with her life. She wasn't Lavinia and she wasn't Pyxis. She was just... Pansy. A girl with absolutely no idea what she wanted to do.

"I'm sixteen." Pansy answered simply, looking back at Theodore. "I'm much too young to be overly obsessed and thinking about what I want to do with my life. Besides, I'm not sure I'm particularly good at anything other than getting my way. You'll learn that about me. I should go into politics, honestly. I'm good at scheming, but I'm sure that can be applied to better jobs."

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]theonott
2013-04-29 04:03 am UTC (link)
"That's fair enough," Theo agreed. "Although I'm only a year older than you and I know what I'm going to be doing. I'll be taking over my father's company. I'm the third generation of Nott running Nott Industries."

He looked up as their food was delivered, smiling at Pansy's cheesecake. "Your lunch looks good. I don't think there's anything wrong with politics, as a career. You and Merlin could take your animosity to the next level."

Nott Industries. That was something Pansy had heard about. She had heard the owner, Theodore Nott, was a vicious man with no sense of love and compassion. She wondered if it was true. She looked at Theodore for a moment and then shrugged.

"I'd rather see Merlin end up in jail." Pansy pointed out. "What's your father like? I've heard things."

"Nothing good, I'm sure," Theodore said. He thought about the question as he picked up his sandwich, taking a bite from it. His relationship with his father wasn't the best, but they hadn't troubled each other very much lately. Theo didn't think of himself as someone with daddy issues. "He's not a warm man, but he's not inhuman either. He's vicious in business, that's true."

He shrugged. "I didn't spent much time with him growing up, if I'm being honest. We check in on each other a few times a year. We're not close. What about your parents? I didn't notice them in your flat."

Pansy shrugged at that. She didn't have a good relationship with her parents. "They're..." She shrugged again, trying not to look too bothered by it. Even if it broke her sometimes knowing her parents didn't care about her.

"Let's just say, the Malfoy's raised me." Pansy told him quietly. "It's not a big deal."

Theo wouldn't pry. He'd basically asked Pansy not to talk about his mother. He could respect her boundaries as well. He nodded. "I understand," he said. "I had nannies instead of Malfoy's."

He took another bite of his sandwich. "How are they, really?" he asked. "The papers love them for being scandalous, but who are they when they're at home?"

Pansy looked up at Theodore suspiciously. Why was he interested in the Malfoys? Was that why he'd asked her on a date? Because he thought she'd spill all their secrets and he could tell the tabloids about them. She frowned at the thought.

"They're normal." Pansy informed him, shrugging. "They're nice people. They're sweet people. They'd do anything for the people they love or who they befriend."

"I wasn't asking because I was planning on selling their story," he promised her. "I don't condone tabloid news. I'm asking so I get to know you better. If they raised you, and this goes well, eventually I assume I'm going to have to meet them."

He smiled at her. "I like your suspicions though. You're smart. The problem with trying to date girls you meet at parties and pubs is that they're usually not."

Pansy shrugged at that. "Most of the girls you date aren't Pansy Parkinson." She informed him, looking him over. "They haven't had to watch where they step their entire lives. They're probably people who would sell to tabloids. Maybe you should watch yourself more."

She took a bite of her cheesecake and eyed him. "Stop dating bimbos and whores that you fall into bed with."

"They probably would, if the tabloids were interested in Notts," Theodore agreed. "I'm not gay and I don't have a fashionable sister. I've never dated an it girl before. I highly doubt there's a tabloid out there who'd take a story about me and some random girl, unless it was entirely made up. I'm not that scandalous."

He laughed at Pansy's advice, shrugging. "Good idea," Theo said. "Why do you think I'm here with you instead?"

"Definitely not a bimbo or a whore. Considering I'm a virgin." Pansy pointed out as she pulled out her phone and began to look up things on her phone, then put her phone down in front of him.

"Pansy Parkinson goes on lunch date with mysterious, dark man." She informed him. "They'll have your name by the hour."

"Mysterious, dark man sounds like you're on a date with Blaise and they thought they were being tactful by not saying black." Theo laughed at that, picking her phone up so he could get a better look at the story. He shook his head. "I'm surprised they got it up so fast."

He handed Pansy back her phone. "I don't mind," Theo said. "It's not my favourite thing, but you're the one who's had to put up with it all her life."

"You'd be surprised how fast they can get stories up." Pansy told him with a casual shrug. "But, if you choose to go on another date with me, or more than even just one more, you'll have to put up with this."

He nodded to the photographers lurking outside the bistro, visible through the window. "Do you want to leave out the back so they have less photos to publish?"

"What? To try and leave by the back, or to try and date you?" Theo wasn't sure what he wanted. They still didn't know each other very well. He knew he was a closed off person and Pansy seemed like she was the same way. Of course she was, with the way photographers stalked her.

"Yes," he said. "To the dating. I think it'll be a challenge for both of us, but you seem like a girl who can handle a challenge."

Pansy looked up at Theodore. She wasn't sure about this at all. About dating. Especially bringing an outsider into her world. It seemed dangerous.

"Lucius Malfoy?" Theodore's eyebrows rose at that. He supposed that was what being raised by the Malfoys meant. Having Lucius Malfoy for a father. His personal life aside, Lucius Malfoy was one of the most ruthless men in the business world and the Malfoy's family interested had outbid Nott industries on more than one occasion. He wasn't just a socialite.

Theo wasn't going to back down because a girl wanted him to meet her surrogate father. Pansy was probably worth it. Things that required hard work usually were. "All right. Dinner tomorrow. I can do that."
