WHO: Chance Moore and Arianna Reese
WHAT: A date at the Brookfield Petting Zoo
WHEN: Wednesday July 16, 2011 about 10 am





Walking back to the primates was first thing on the agenda for today. Chance called ahead and apparently they were doing bottle feeding of baby monkeys at 10:30. For the first time, he was glad it was summer. Normally summer brought back lots of bad memories and bad experiences with an absentee caretaker, but this summer, being with Ari, was amazing.

Though the nerves were killer. His heart raced being around her, and his cheeks hurt from smiling so much. He wasn't sure what it was about her, why he felt like she was new and familiar at the same time, but he did. The thought of it excited and scared him. He didn't entirely understand his feelings and what they meant, but he loved spending time with her, getting to know her better. And maybe, they'd become something. He'd never know until he tried.

"This is going to be really fun. I'm glad we're doing this. Baby monkeys and leopards! Who would have thought right? Start to a perfect day!"

It was an early date, but it had to be. They were getting to feed baby monkeys! Aeianna was beyond thrilled. She loved that Chance had come up with such an incredible idea for a date. Movies were nice, but this was so, so much better. Every time she thought about him, her heart beat faster. He was like a dream coming true. She wasn't sure what the future held for them, but she looked forward to finding out.

Grabbing his hand as they walked to the feeding sextion, Arianna squeezed his arm close and then bounced ahead. She stopped and bounced in place waiting for him to catch up. "This is seriously the best thing ever. I think my heart might explode with joy and excitement. Thank you do, so much!"

Her smile was wide and completely genuine. He made her smile like this. It was definitely something she could get used to.

Chance's breath hitched as she grabbed his hand. He squeezed it a little and his heart raced as she leaned into him. He couldn't help thinking about leaning against her, but more than that hr was starting to think he should kiss her later. Not now, but maybe later.

He smiled as she ran ahead. "I am glad, Ari that you are excited. It just sounded like fun and I like being with you and having fun." he caught up to her and took her hand. His thumb moving over her skin as they hurried to the enclosure. The zookeeper smiled at them as they approached.

"Here for Zane and Tandy? Right this way." he held the gate open and Chance led Ari behind him. The zookeeper motioned for them to take a seat and stepped away for a moment. Chance looked over and saw Ari beaming from ear to ear. The zookeeper came back with two baby monkeys and a couple of bottles. He handed each of them a monkey and a bottle. "Poor things. Their mom and dad got sick at another zoo and died. We're trying to do what we can, but it'll be hard for them being orphans."

Chance looked up at him with big sad eyes. He knew hthe man didn't know, but still it paine him to hear the words. He looked over at Ari and sort of half smiled. "At least they have each other and people aroud that care about them."

It was Arianna's turn to have her heart race and her breath hitch when he took her had the second time and rubbed his thumb over her skin. To her, that was a very intimate and private action, but she liked it with Chance. She liked the way he felt close to her and when he touched her or held her hand. "I like being with you while having fun as well."

Following the zookeeper, she sat down obediently when he told them to sit. Her grin was huge in anticipation. They were getting to feed baby monkeys! Arianna resisted the urge to clap her hands when she saw him returning with the babies and bottles. So much fun! Taking one of them from him, she smiled down at the little girl monkey and brought the bottle to her lips.

She looked up at the zookeeper as he explained what had happened to the parents. A part of her wanted to cry, but she wouldn't. At least not full on. A single tear crept down her cheek, but she swiped at it. Arianna knew that Chance had lost both of his parents only a few years ago. Hearing the story about the orphaned monkeys couldn't have been easy.

"That's all that really matters. They're not alone." Without jostling the baby monkey too much, she leaned over and brought her mouth to his ear to whisper. "You're not alone either. I'll always be here for you and care about you." Pulling back, she bit her lip and blushed. Not meeting his eye, she cooed down at the baby monkey.

"Who's a pretty girl? You are. Yes you are." She hoped that they would get to play with the monkeys after they were done feeding them. Arianna had the overwhelming urge to tickle her, but refrained while she ate.

Chance felt Arianna's breath on him and it sent a chill up his spine, but her words are what truly effected him. She said he wasn't alone but more than that she would always care. He turned to look at her, a small sad smile moving across his features, but she was absorbed in her monkey. He couldn't help but laugh at her calling the monkey a pretty girl. It was adorable. She was adorable.

The zookeeper smiled at the two of them. "You guys should be all right here for 30 minutes or so, right? Feel free to let them walk around some when they're done with those bottles." The man excused himself and left them sitting in the open area.

He sat there a few seconds not sure what to say, but then smiled. "It's really cool being here with them, and with you. And that was really nice what you said. No one has ever said anything like that to me before."

He wasn't sure how his heart could race and melt at the same time, but he kind of liked it.

Arianna nodded up at the zookeeper when he asked if they would be alright for about 30 minutes. When he left, her eyes went right back down to Tandy. Maybe she'd become a veterinarian instead of a teacher... except she didn't get the best grades in science. She did better in math. Chance broke her chain of thought when he finally spoke up.

With a sweet smile on her lips, he looked over at him. "I'm loving being here and with you." Her smile turned upside down a little when he admitted that no one had ever said anything like that to him before. How could that be? Chance was a genuinely nice guy and a lot of fun. Even if he had some crazy thing about him, which she didn't know if he did, someone should always care about him... love him.

"I'm sorry that no one has ever said that before. If I'd known, I would have told you that sooner. Chance you're too incredible for people to not care about." Reaching over, she squeezed his hand. Tandy finished her bottle then and sat up in Arianna's lap.

"Well hello, pretty girl. Done already? Don't you know you're not supposed to finish all your food in front of a boy?" Laughing a little, the monkey brought her hand to Ari's face and pinched her lips shut. She put the bottle down and tickled the monkey a little. "Meanie," she called the monkey with a smile which Tandy returned.

Chance smiled when Arianna said that she was loving being here. And with him. Him. His heart soared. His stomach filled with butterflies. But that wasn't the end of it. His eyes got a little glassy as she continued to compliment him. Incredible? She thought he was incredible? Did that mean maybe, just maybe, she liked him?

He wondered if this is what the grandpa felt like in Willie Wonka that drank the stuff to floated to the ceiling. He beamed and was about to say something else, but Arianna turned and started to play with her monkey. Chance laughed as his finished his bottle and Chance set the monkey down, letting him grab his thumbs and stood to walk behind him.

"You know, I think you like that monkey there more than me. Having a good time I take it? Seeing the zookeeper makes me think about vets. Maybe I should be a vet instead of a doctor. What do you want to be when we are all grown up and stuff?" he asked as he toddled slowly behind his monkey and looked back at Arianna, beaming.

Arianna definitely thought he was incredible. And kind and sweet and she really liked him. A lot. At the same time, she didn't want to get her hopes up. From what she knew, Chance was religious, even if it was a different religion then her own. They both believed in God. They both believed in helping others. What were the chances that he was really interested in her?

Smiling, she looked up at Chance. Oh no,she definitely didn't like the monkey more then him. "Definitely not. I like you way more then the monkey." Biting her lip, she blushed and looked back down at her monkey. Arianna stood up and let the monkey start walking like her brother. "I'm having a great time. Thank you so much."

When he asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up, she shrugged a little. Being here with the animals made her want tobe a vet or a zoo keeper. When she was at the soup kitchen and taking care of the kids there, she wanted to be a teacher. When she was at camp and helping the younger kids, she wanted to be a teacher. "I'm having a lot of fun with the animals, which makes me want to maybe be a vet or a zookeeper. However... I know I want to be an elementary school teacher."

Chance blushed and his jaw dropped as he turned to look at Arianna after she said she liked him. "What? Are you serious?Ari I have had a crush on you for almost two years! I didn't think you even like saw me. I..." what was he doing?! He just told her he had a crush on her? Was he crazy? Blushing furiously he looked down at his monkey and realized why Arianna was so intrigued by him during part of their conversation. He made for a good distraction.

"You are so strong! I bet you could beat your sister in a race without a problem. And herr Aunt Ari can practice being around the baby elementary school kids." The heat in his face was leaving as he walked the monkey around the little pen, his fingers gripping into Chance's hands making him feel powerful and protective.

This time her heart stopped for real. Then it thudded back into action when Chance blurted all that information out. Her breathing was heavy from her heart racing. It took Arianna a few moments, but finally she looked up at him. "I've had a crush on you for the longest time... Except, right now, I don't think it's a crush. I think it's real, genuine feelings Chance..."

She knew she needed to concentrate on the monkeys. They were the reason they were there. She smiled when he called her Aunt Ari. Since she had no siblings of her own, she'd never be an aunt. That thought made her a little sad, but the monkey started babbling at her. Laughing, she started walking her around the pen. "I know we can beat your brother in a race. Uncle Chance doesn't know what he's talking about."

Chance turned crimson. He wasn't sure what to respond to Arianna's statement. He wanted a relationship. He really liked her, but he wasn't sure he had feelings yet. He could, but not yet. "I... I don't know what to say. I like you, Arianna. I..." Maybe they were feelings. He thought about her all the time. He liked hanging out with her. He wanted to spend every minute with her. But he didn't know exactly what that was. He thought it was just a super crush, an infatuation, but what is an infatuation than a culmination of feelings? "I don't know. I might have feelings, too. Kinda. Sorta. Starting to at least." He was sure someone could fry an egg on his face if they wanted to it was so hot.

He tried to focus on the monkey as Ari came up near him, but his heart was racing. "First one to toddle to the wall wins." Chance said smiling. "On your mark, get set, go!" he shouted out in a rush and started walking with the monkey towards the wall.

His response had her heart race and not in a good way. She'd said too much... let him know too much of her feelings. "Yea... No that's okay... I understand... We'll just see how things go or whatever...". Looking away, she bit her lip. Arianna was a fool. She didn't usually tell boys how she felt and this was a good reason why. Biting back any threat of tears, she plastered on her happy face.

She even went as far as to laugh at the idea of a race. Positioning Tandy right, they started to walk towards the wall. After what just happened, she really wanted to win. However, Tandy on the other hand, had different ideas. The little monkey twisted in her arms and climbed up Arianna's body like she was a tree. Wrapping her little arms around her neck, Ari couldn't help but hug the monkey back lovingly. Maybe she was intuitive to her feelings and knew she could use a hug. "Thank you, my beautiful girl," she whispered.

Chance frowned. That wasn't what he meant. Not in the slightest. But he decided to wait to say anything else. He'd show Arianna he cared. He didn't have to tell her.

Chance started walking the little monkey, but stopped when Arianna stopped and her monkey wrapped around her neck. "OK, I am totally jealous of the monkey now." Scooping up his monkey in his arms and letting it wrap its arms around his neck, Chance crossed over to Arianna and pulled her into a one armed hug, holding her close. He kissed the spot just beneath her ear, soft but lingering, and pulled his head back slightly. "I care about you, Ari. Really I do."

When Chance told her he was jealous of the monkey, she couldn't help but smile. Maybe she'd overreacted a little. After all, this was only their second date. Just because Arianna had told him that she did have feelings for him, didn't mean he had to say that back. Plus feelings were just feelings, that didn't mean love. It just meant that she liked him and liked him as more than just a friend. Watching as he pulled his monkey up into a hug, she almost fainted from her heart stopping when he pulled her into a hug and then kissed her her neck by her ear.

Did the boy know what that did to her? Probably not, since she hadn't really known what a kiss there would do to her. It felt beyond incredible. His lips on her skin sent a shiver up and down her spine like nothing else. Arianna's cheeks were scarlet with her blush. Chance cared about her. She had overreacted. Tilting her head so she could look into his eyes, she smiled. "I care about you too."

He stood there staring at her for a moment, and a hand came up and brushed her hair from her face. And in that moment, that perfect moment lost in her sparkling eyes he wanted nothing more than to lean in and kiss her. His first kiss. He could feel his body by being pulled to her millimeter by millimeter. Leaning in ever so slightly. And as he got closer he wondered if he should stop. But he didn't want to. Not now. Not during this perfect moment.

So he leaned in more, his hand on her.

"You kids doing all right in here? Those monkeys need to get back to their pens," the old man zookeeper said from behind Chance. A frustrated sigh escaped Chance's lips as his eyes closed and he took a step back from Arianna.

"Aw, that's sad," Chance said as he walked toward him, cradling his monkey in his arms. "Guess it's time for us to go. Thanks for letting us feed them and play with them. This was really fun."

The old man smiled at Chance as he took his monkey. "I'm glad you guys had fun. There's a lot more to see at the zoo. Leopards are getting fed here in an hour or so. You shouldn't miss it."

Chance smiled easily at the man and took a step back, waiting for Arianna to hand him her monkey as well. Internally he sighed at the interruption. It would have been the perfect kiss. But at least now he knew she cared. And the moment could come. Soon.

Arianna was transfixed in place as she noticed him staring into her eyes and inching closer and closer. If Chance had been any other guy, she would have stepped or looked away not wanting to kiss them. She was saving her first kiss for someone special... so that the kiss itself was special. However, this was Chance and she truly cared for him. It was almost like he was the perfect guy... at least for her.

Her eyes had just started to close and her lips puckered the tiniest bit when the zookeeper came back. A hot, deep blush burned at her cheeks and she was grateful to be able to bury her face in the monkey before she handed her over to the zookeeper. "They're incredible animals. I had so much fun with them. I would totally love to volunteer here or work here if you guys are looking."

After saying her goodbyes to the monkey and zookeeper, she grabbed Chance's hand and laced her fingers with his. Leading him out of the feeding area, Arianna walked them down the lane towards the enclosed butterly house. Opening the outer door, she stepped inside and closed it securely before going through the next door. There were trees and rocks all over the place. It was also semiprivate and incredibly enchanting inside. "So pretty..."

The zookeeper said to stop by and pick up an application at the front office as he herded the monkeys away and left.

Chance's heart was racing as they stepped out into the light, squinting a little from the brightness of the sun. He smiled as she laced her fingers with his and he squeezed her hand tight as she guided them to the butterfly house. He followed her inside, shutting the door behind him and seeing all of the pretty flowers, the butterflies flitting here and there. The sign outside said to be careful to make sure you didn't step on them and cleaned them off you before you left. The thought of that was exciting and sent his heart racing as he imagined his hands running over Arianna and brushing the little butterflies off her before they left.

Everything about this place, this day seemed like magic and he couldn't stop smiling. "It is. Really pretty. Looks like you've made a friend." Chance watched as a butterfly drifted down and landed on her shoulder. He went to stand closer to her and didn't feel the couple that had landed on his head and back.

It really was stunningly beautiful in the butterfly house. She could stay forever here. When he said she had made a friend, Arianna shifted her head to look at the butterfly on her shoulder. Smiling brightly, she looked up at him and giggled a little. "If I made a friend then you're Mr. Popular."

Gesturing with her head to his head, she moved her hand to run her fingers through his hair. Arianna's hand trailed down his neck and over his shoulder before falling to her side. She bit at her bottom lip, but laughed at the fluttery feeling the butterflies left on her skin. A part of her wondered it she had swallowed one since her stomach was fluttering too.

Chance's eyes fluttered closed as her hand touched him and he let out a deep sigh. When he opened his eyes he stared into her face and he whispered her name. His hand came up and cupped her face, his finger running over her cheek. He couldn't think, couldn't breathe, and yet he was still somehow driven by his sense of honor and values.

"Can..." He drifted off for a moment, his eyes fluttering closed as he tried to compose himself. "Can I kiss you?" his voice was breathy, his heart racing, but everything about her and him and this moment was too perfect to waste, even if it was only their second date.

His sigh did something to the flutters in her stomach. It sped them up and made her skin prickle with goosebumps. As Chance whispered her name and cupped her face, she left out a sigh of her own. Arianna's back arched a little as her head tilted back and his finger ran over her cheek. When his eyes closed again, she smiled. She liked knowing that she could do that to him.

Then he asked if he could kiss her. Her heart raced and her head started working. She had always wanted her first kiss to mean something. Arianna knew anything shared with Chance would be perfect and special. Biting her lip, she nodded. She laughed softly when she realized he couldn't see her. "Yes... I would like that, Chance..."

Taking a deep breath, Chance opened his eyes for a moment to see the look on her face, the star in her eyes, the softness of her lips. Then without thinking about anything except the blood slamming through his ears he leaned in, getting closer and closer. His eyes fluttered closed again as he felt her breath on his face and he let his lips brush against hers, barely touching her skin, pulling back just a little, then pressing his lips gently to her, holding her against him just like that, her face in his hand and her lips pressed to his.

When his lips pressed to hers to softly, she almost opened her eyes to question him. Did he change his mind? However, then he pressed his lips to hers again. This time it lasted longer and with a little more pressure. Arianna's cheeks were burning, but she wouldn't pull away first. She was enjoying being close to him like this. Moving her hands up, she rested them on his chest and made a noise of approval.

Chance's hands instinctively wrapped around her waist. He pulled her a little closer to him and let everything else melt away. The kiss deepening slightly, his lips pressing to hers with a little more purpose. His heart hammered in his chest as he held her, lost in their embrace.

As his hands wrapped around her, Arianna pressed her body against his slightly. There wasn't anything inappropriate about this kiss. When he deepened it with a firmer press of his lips, her hands moved up his chest and wrapped around his neck. She knew it should end soon. They were in a fairly public place and they weren't even dating. She would never regret this kiss, but she knew it needed to end, much to her dismay.

Pulling her lips away from his slowly, she sighed. Arianna didn't pull out of his embrace or remove her arms and hands from around his neck. Her eyes remained closed for a moment longer before she opened them and looked up into his. Blushing brightly, she smiled shyly at him. "That... That was my first kiss..."

Chance pressed his lips with a little more purpose to hers, but didn't deepen the kiss more than that, and as he felt his arms wrap around his neck his tightened around her waist. But he knew they were in public, very public, and they should definitely slow down. And they were just on their second date, how could he kiss her and not make her his like he wanted? But right now, all he wanted was to feel like this, and try not to think, even though he was worrying about taking the kiss too far. He didn't want her to think he was that kind of guy, but he didn't want her to feel bad if he pulled away.

Luckily, Arianna pulled back from the kiss before he did. He didn't want to pull away and hurt her or make her feel rejected again. When he heard her words and looked into her face, he smiled. "Mine, too. Well, my first real one that wasn't a peck. The first one that ever meant something." He could feel the heat rise in his cheeks and he looked away for a moment, but then looked back. He couldn't be a chicken anymore. Not... not like this.

"Arianna, there's something I've been meaning to ask you. But I was scared. I don't want you to think I'm just like some guy. I don't want just you know... to play. I want to be with someone and have feelings and make feelings." He sighed, closing his eyes and shaking his head, trying to compose himself for a moment then opened his eyes again and stared intently into hers for a moment. "Will you be my girlfriend?"

"This was my first one. Never been pecked before and this definitely meant something." Winking, Arianna smiled brightly and happily. She liked knowing that she'd been his first real kiss too. Maybe that was a sign of some kind. When he looked away, she got a little nervous but then he looked back and started talking.

Arianna did her best to listen to every single word he said. She shook her head when he mentioned being just like every other guy. She knew differently. Chance was incredible and had his beliefs and goals. He wasn't like the rest of the horny teens at their high school.

"I want that too... To find someone to be with and have our feelings grow together..." Staring intently into his eyes, she blushed deeply when he asked her to be his girlfriend. For a moment, she was actually speechless. Arianna definitely wanted to be his girlfriend. Nodding, she smiled.

"I would love to be your girlfriend, Chance."

Chance smiled as she spoke. They shared this first kiss, this first moment together, and he couldn't be happier. And a blush crept into his cheeks as hers consumed her face. His heart raced as he waited for her answer, and when she agreed he beamed. Pulling her into his arms and sweeping her off her feet, spinning her around, butterflies flying off them and into the air. He laughed as they spun then put her down and stared into her face as they got their balance. Brushing a bit of hair out of her face, he couldn't help but beaming at her.

"I'm glad. Really glad. Unbelievably happy." Without thinking, he leaned in and kissed her again, his lips pressing to hers softly and tenderly, lingering a little while then pulling away, smiling at her. He reached down and grasped her hand, giving it a little squeeze. "Come on. Let's check the rest of this place out. We can go feed the leopards next." And with that he guided them from the butterfly house, stopping to gently sweep butterflies off Arianna before taking her hand again and heading back out.
