Flashback: 7 years ago
Cassie drew her legs up against her chest and held herself. Her body shook and she let herself fall back on the bed.

He was gone. He wouldn’t remember her. He wouldn’t remember anything about her. He was gone and now? He was Kang. He was a psychotic mass murderer. He was everything he fought so hard not to become.

“Why?” Cassie cried. “Nate why…” She choked back a sob. “I’m so sorry.”

The next time she saw him— and she knew in her heart that she would see him again— he would be Kang.

	Cassie didn't get up right away. In fact, she didn't do anything right away. She wiped away the tears from her eyes- or at least tried to as they were quickly replaced. Maybe whoever it was would go away. Probably not. She just didn't want to talk to anyone right now. She didn't think she could even say anything that sounded remotely intelligible. 	There was silence for a moment, then Cassie got up and unlocked the door, hesitating briefly before opening it. She looked like she'd been crying for hours (at least). "Kris-" Her voice cracked before she could finish his name. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	He held her close, one hand moving across her back, and tried to push all the slow ways he wanted to kill Kang to the fringes of his mind. For now. "It won't stay this bad forever; it can't," he muttered softly, soothingly, not so much focused on getting her to listen to the words as just trying to be there. "You are going to get through this." Kristoff will never, ever say that to her, but he'll never quite be able to get himself to stop believing it. He'll clutch back without hesitation. 	He returns the smile, asks her to sit down, and proceeds to scour the kitchen -- delicately ignoring the birth control pills he runs across, glad he's facing away from her so she can't see his eyelids shut for a moment -- for what he needs to make vegetable soup. The kind which adds just a dash of cinnamon, cayenne, and soy sauce, because he knows ~~his~~ Cassandra. (Reply to this)(Parent)
