Homecoming
Remy LeBeau considers few places hospitable enough to warrant going once, let alone twice, but for as many times as he leaves Xavier's, he always finds himself drawn back. A certain Southern Belle might have something to do with it, too, but he can name other things. Jubilee's brownies, or teaching the little ones to play poker (something that the Professor didn't quite endorse). Logan's taste in cigars, or challenging Ororo to see who could pick a lock faster. Hell, even the Danger Room has a certain appeal to it that draws him in.

Oh, and of course, Scott threatening to drop a truck on him for charming the ladies.

All in all, Gambit is a decent mood when he pulls up the drive to the school, returning after an extended absence to deal with some family issues back home. He slides in the door quietly, giving a smile to the kids he sees, who welcome him back.

"Hi, Mr. LeBeau!"  a couple of the teenage girls smile and wave.

" 'Ello dere,  cheres. You been good while I was away, Cindy? You practicin' dat card trick, Jenna? I expect t'hear some stories when I get settled in. Any o' de adults around righ' now?" he asks.

"I think Mr. Summers in his office." Jenna offers.

"Merci, chere. I 'preciate it." Remy says, strolling off toward Scott's office.  He'll knock on the door.

"Okay, One-Eye. De party can start now. I have arrived."  he calls out, loudly.

Scott released a long suffering sigh and counted to ten before answering the knock. "It's unlocked, Remy. Come in."

" 'Ello dere, Boss Man. You don' 'ave t'jump up an' hug me. We don' wanna let anyone think you might be happy t'see me." he grins.

"As a token o' my eternal 'preciation, mon ami, I'm gonna take all the beautiful ladies of Xavier's off y'hands, so you can brood in peace. How dat sound?" Remy asks, waiting for a smile, or even a hint of one. A snicker. Anything.

"Come on, Cyclops! I been gone for three months. Least y'could do is pretend to laugh at m'jokes." Gambit mock-complains.

" 'Ow you been, fellow Red Eye?" Gambit asks.

There might have been the smallest hint of smile, but Scott is quite good at keeping a poker face.

"And how long are you planning on staying this time, Remy?"

"Fair question, Scott. I had some business t' handle back home with the Guilds, but dat's done. I'm here now and ready to help in any way I can." he says.

"Hey, Scott. Is Rogue still here? She and I...we didn't leave t'ings on the best o' terms when I left, and I wanted to talk t' her if'n I could." he says, a little nervously.

Scott noted that Gambit did not actually answer the question, but decided not to pursue it for the moment.

"She should still be," he replied. "Though whether or not she'll speak to you is, of course, up to her."

"Where dere's a will, dere's a way, Scott. All I gotta do is wear her down." Remy says. It was rare that he couldn't charm his way back into a woman's good graces, and he knew Rogue well enough to know that he had his work cut out for him.

But Remy loved a challenge.

"What else is goin' on these days, O Fearless Leader? Magneto runnin' Genosha can't be sittin' too well wit' anybody. How long you think it is before he decide he wanna shoot for runnin' the rest o' the world as well?" Remy asks.

"We're keeping an eye on the situation," Scott said. "No one's comfortable with it... but I'll admit I like knowing where he is."

He went on. "Other than that, we're putting together a training squadron out of the students with an eye towards full-field status eventually. You could probably teach them a few things, actually."

"You want me to teach the next generation?" Remy asks rhetorically, grinning. "Dat sound like a good idea. You t'ink dey ready for dis, Cyclops? Do /dey/ know what they gettin' into?" Gambit asks.

"Besides, what you want 'em to know?" he asks.

"You have... skills I don't," Scott admitted. "It's a tough world. They're going to need to know how to navigate the seedier parts sometimes."

Remy isn't offended by the implication at all; it's because of his past that he's survived until now. If anything he's learned will help this new batch of future X-Men, then he wants to give them every chance he can to succeed.

"You wan' a lesson plan, or should I jus' play it by ear?" Remy asks.

In spite of himself, Scott does find himself smiling, ever so slightly. "Just make sure I have an idea of what you're doing," he said.

"Well, I tell you now dat I'm gonna work 'em to a little exercise I call 'Survive Da Night'. And it goes just like it sounds. The kids are gonna be the X-Men, and we gonna siege da Mansion. Dey ain't gonna know what night it'll be, or da time. They'll have to establish da defenses, get da children to safety and keep us at bay 'til dawn.

Dey do good, dey pass. Dey don't do good, den dey fail. Simple, no?" Remy asks.

Scott nodded. "It's a good idea, actually," he replied. "Good job, Gambit."
