Learn to fly (open).

Her mother had explained it to her countless times, that she had simply commanded that the air carry her and it had obeyed. The winds and air had lifted the young Ororo, keeping her aloft instead of throwing her to the ground. It sounded simple enough, but what sounded easy could in actuality be very complicated. That is why Chara decided that she wasn't just going to trust that the air and wind would listen to her and obey the sound of conviction in her voice. She made sure she had a safety net, literally, set up for her in the Danger Room that she could fall into when she jumped from a pretty solid height.

As the net caught her for the fifth time, the thrill of falling had worn off. Now she was just getting annoyed.

"Is there a magic word or something?" Chara grumbled a bit as she started her climb back up to attempt a sixth leap.

	"This is very different than how my mother explained it," she said as she warily glanced down. The net would surely hold her--it had five times already so that wasn't a stress or a concern. Lucas and Storm probably have a few other differences in approach, but he seems certain of himself here.

"No. Close your eyes, and just fly. The air spirits will support you - they want to fly... if you want to fly with them, they will welcome the company. But you must believe it... if you do not think you will fall, you won't. Do not look down... down is the place of the spirits of the Earth, not the air. There is only forward."

	"Okay..." Chara closed her eyes and stood there for a long moment before just moving forward. Her body dropped a few inches then suddenly lifted up. It was less flying than gliding, but for a few moments she was airborne. Then she realized it, opened her eyes...and promptly dropped straight into the net. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	"No. I heard we had a new student. I try and at least meet most of the newcomers. When I came down here, there were a lot of very active air spirits. "Of course commanding worked for your mother." he says, taking a guess here. "She thought of herself as a goddess. She had absolute faith that her authority would carry, and the people believed her... hence so did their spirits. You hesitate, you doubt... so the air does too. But if you're nice to the spirits, they'll help you... they're nice that way. Just trust that they like you, and if you believe you can fly, they will too."

	Lucas is likewise quite relaxed, happy to lie down and chat for a while. "The first, because my mother knew yours. The second because I talk to the spirits around here regularly. 	"That's ok, if we go out by the lake where there's more moisture, I can. Nothing like the blizzards you or your mother might manage, but a little snow is doable. I can also just get milk and sugar from the kitchen and make some ice cream." As usual, master of self-sufficiency. Doesn't even occur to him that there's usually a supply in the freezer. 	Chara nodded. "Yes. Hello." She smiled at Lucas. "Since your friend was looking for you I will stop taking up your time. Thank you for your encouragement." "Excellent."

He's pleasant enough on the way outside, heading to his favored spot by the lake. Once there, he quiets, settling in. His magic is a lot different than Chara's powers - he has to sit and meditate, focusing, speaking to the spirits and asking for their aid - it takes a bit of time, but eventually, the weather controller can feel a shift around them, and it begins to snow, the winds swirling gently around to cool the air enough that it sticks.

	Lucas' eyes are closed as he works, directing whorls of wind to help gather the snow to make it that much easier to use to chill the eventual ice cream, chanting and speaking quietly to the spirits the whole time. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)
