"Knock, knock."

BOOM!

The mouth of the cave, formerly blocked by several tons of fractured architecture and boulders, is cleared in a flash of debris and noise. Bentley 23 pushes his goggles up and grins, wiping dust from his face. "I've always wanted to say that." He looks over his shoulder to Ben. "Ready to find things forgotten by man and time?"

	Ben laughed. "So what kind of things are you expecting to find in here anyways?" He probably should have asked about that before but doing a little bit of exploring sounded like fun to him. Plus explosions were pretty cool. (Reply to this)(Thread)

	Bentley gives him a flat look. "Benjamin, don't be ridiculous. No such thing as the Illuminati." He starts scanning to make sure the cave is stable. "This is actually something a bit more openly historic... hoping to find the secret to forging Damascus steel." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"That's different. Those things are science." Bentley clarifies. For all his weirdness, Bentley doesn't buy into conspiracy theories or secret societies.

"Analysis of trace metals in the regions, forensic anthropology, tracking the purchases of various artifacts across the past century... you know, boring stuff. But sometimes adventuring means doing your homework."

	"Still strange, weird, and crazy to me," Ben says with a shrug but he was going to take Bentley's word on it. Guy was a genius after all. Bentley motions for Ben to follow him. "Supposedly this cave was used as a repository for metal-works left as tribute for various religious rituals. Meaning even if they've dealt with natural corrosion over the decades, they've been untouched by human hands. Best case scenario for untainted samp--OH SWEET CARL SAGAN THAT'S RANCID!"

He throws a hand up to his face as they come across the dessicated corpse of an animal. "Ugh... must've been trapped by the cave-in. Not cool." He pulls an aerosol can from his supply pouch and starts spraying the the area.

The next device Bentley pulls out is some sort of miniature turbine, which he places on the opposite side of the corpse, funneling the smell outside. "All part of the adventure... still a walk in the dog park compared to that swamp excavation I did when I was trying to get samples of the Man-Thing's energy signature."

Further into the cave, they find a small altar, with lumps of metal, worked and unworked, upon it. Atop it, are three blades.

"Score." Bentley pulls out a scanner and starts examining them.

	"At least this gives me something to draw on if I need to act like I'm smelling something particularly nasty," Ben says checking out the device that Bentley pulled out. 	Wanna bet? As Ben takes his next step, there's a click from underneath his foot. A blade flies past his head, embedding itself in the opposite wall. Bentley looks up. "...well that's not good." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"No, I mean the blade would have been contaminated if it hit you instead of missing!" Bentley hits a switch on his belt and starts to levitate, going over to examine the knife in the wall. "Wow... excellent quality. Even with partial oxidation, the blade still retains enough hardness and enough edge to pierce stone."

He gets out a pair of tongs and carefully retrieves the knife, putting it into a case. This is followed by another scanner, examining the cave around them.

"Okay... think I got this mapped. He gets a laser pointer and indicates a point on the floor. "Step where I indicate, and you should be able to get to and from the altar safely. Need those bigger ones as well."

"Of course that's what I meant. What did you think I was talking about?" Bentley looks genuinely confused. Setting things on fire is, by him, considered to be a perfectly natural response to most stressful situations.

"Just follow the red dot. Harness your inner internet cat video." Bentley guides him to the altar, floating closer, and finally putting away the laser pointer so he can hold a container open.

	One by one, the knives are deposited. Once the last one goes into the container however, the cave erupts with an angry scream as ghostly figures emerge from the wall behind the altar. "Oh no! The vengeful spirits of a butcher, a lumberjack, and a soldier!" Bentley exclaims, taking off towards the mouth of the cave. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Before Bentley can answer, the ghosts emerge from the cave. They fly at, into, and through Ben's body before they fade to mist in the sunlight. "...huh... well, I guess the rumors were true. This should be interesting." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Ben definitely looked pretty pissed off and freaked out after all of this.

"If this interesting ends badly for me because you didn't tell me something I swear to god I'm going to take HERBIE into your lab and give myself a nose bleed and let whatever happens happen," Ben threatens. A burnt out lab coated in way too many flame retardant chemicals seemed a like a good threat to him.

I'll run a full spectrum analysis on you when we get back, and if the ghosts did something..." That's when Bentley just starts cackling, jumping over the side of the cruiser into the open top. "Oh come on! I didn't do this on purpose!" He shakes the container of blades. "The hunt was a success! Replicating a metallurgical process lost to the ages? This is rockstar material, scientifically speaking." He gets them flying back towards home.

"The fact that I have an ecto-analyzer and maleveolent presence rejection array waiting to be tested is a coincidence, I swear. One of the things I built when I went on that productivity bender when I was outraged over Hostess going off the market. Same time I made the industrial laser can opener."

	"Top secret, need to know, restoration project," Ben says smirking. He didn't want too many people to know that he and Parker, mostly him were rebuilding the Spider-mobile.
