Michael sure as hell didn't know why he did it. He was acting on pure instinct. Sure, he may not have cared much for Dex as a person but he was a team mate. So him jumping in the way of that yellow goop that called itself Despotic was a natural reaction.

And now here he was. Despotic wasn't like his "ancestor" Despotellis, in that he was some giant germ. He was worse for what Michael was: he was a power stripper. Before he knew what happened, the Matrix petered out and withered like a flame under an extinguisher. At least they were in a place that didn't kill him right away, but afterwards Michael found out something horrible: The Matrix was weakened to the point of near uselessness. At any point he could actually use it, he couldn't make anything more than a coin without a mind splitting head-ache.

He had to "retire". Not even 25 and he had to give it all up. There were some who tried to console him. Ash...God did Ash try. But it was hard. As much as he showed contempt for the Cape Crowd, he had accepted it so much that it left a hole when he couldn't do it.

So now he was Michael Choi. Bitter old man at 30.

Dex wouldn't just let Michael retire and be left alone. If he had to admit it he missed Michael being around. Michael was the closest thing to a friend that Dex had. True, they argued and bickered A LOT, but Michael was a friend nonetheless.

Since Michael retired, once a week if possible, Dex visited Michael. As always he showed up with two large pizzas and a case of beer.

Dex pounded on the door to Michael's place.

That pounding was a sign that Dex was here. Michael didn't really know why, but with all the snark and bad attitude Michael had thrown Dexs way he still came. he was sure it was guilt of some kind. the worst kind of pity. But for the life of him Michael couldn't say no.

So, instead of a "fuck off" from inside the apartment, Michael got up and opened the door.

"Hey."

	There is a bit of a smirk, but Dex can tell Michael, as normal, is decidedly not looking at Dex's GL ring. "Your offering is acceptable. Come on in. Your normal spot on the couch is available and the DVDs available for watching are on the coffee table." Michael grabs one of the boxes of pizza. 	Dex carried the remaining pizza boxes and the beer into the living room. He placed them on the coffee table and took his usual seat. "See that fight on Saturday? One helluva fight. Michael grabs a plate, getting a combination of pizzas for him and Dex, and a beer for each of them.

On the table is a stack of DVDs. they are a good mix of films, most of them from the Scorcese catalog. Underneath them are design plans. They have been scratched out and redone several times.
