Phil sat sipping his drink on the concrete bordering of some of the flower beds in the city. They were already on their way home, just taking a break, but it was starting to get dark. Really he was only hanging out with Dolomeck because his brothers had other things too, plus Dol was soooo easy to mess with. Too easy sometimes, but it was a ton of fun and it made everything more entertaining.

"There are a ton of stories that are like horror in the myths! Didn't Venus tell you any? Sheesh. You can't go around not knowing awesome myth stories, Dol."

"No... Mum only tells me stories of true love and friendship. Stuff with Princes rescuing Princesses!" Dolemeck smiled as he sat near Phil. He had his stuffed cat in his arms, and was dressed in... of all things, a sailor suit. Venus did have a terrible habit of adoring cute things, including her son's wardrobe. "She never told me of any of these "myth" stories, before. I do not know why..."

Phil could be frightening at times, but Venus encouraged Dolemeck to make friends with him. He was like family in the cousin twice removed kind of way. Only because the Goddess Venus (before she gave Dolemeck to Venus of Atlas) gave him "life".

"I know one where there's friendship, and princesses and princes looking to reclaim their kingdom. Though the princess saves the prince more often! Have you heard some of the Jason stories? They're good." Oh and the later parts were his favourite. Medea coming into the story brought all sorts of awesome nightmare elements with her. But it started off so well to lure people in! At least in his opinion.

"Wanna hear that one? He's known as a great hero in myth! Jason and the Argonauts!"

"No, I have not heard of any stories of this Jason and the Argonauts." Dolemeck blinked at the world "Argonauts", as it sounded like part of Argo's name... and Astronauts. "Are these tales of Jason and Argo, in space?"

Phil gave an exasperated sigh. "No silly, Argo isn't in this story. Maybe he's named after it, you'd have to ask him. It's about a hero who goes on a bunch of quests while he tries to regain his kingship and stuff. And on the way he meets a princess who helps him. I thought you liked those stories?"

"The stories Mum tells me are more... well, from my time." Dolemeck continued to smile, rocking back and forth in his seat on the ground. "I like stories of noble knights slaying dragons who kidnap princesses and being hailed by the Kingdom as a hero! But this one of Jason sounds interesting. He goes on a quest to regain his crown? And a Princess helps him? Is she pretty?"

"And there should be more stories about Argo! He's the bravest kid I know... and the biggest! Look, he saved Mr. beanie from being hung by some bullies!" He held up his stuffed cat for Phil to look at.

"Argo can get stories about him when he's older and he's done more stuff," Phil replied and looked over Mr. Beanie that was being pushed at him. "And anyway, it's no fun if you only know stories from one time. But yep, she helps him a ton! In fact, she does most of the work and he'd get nowhere without her. I think she was pretty, princesses in stories are usually pretty..." He thought about this then shook his head and waved away the question.

"Well you see, Jason was trying to get his kingdom back from this guy that took it, but to do that he had to get a Golden Fleece. Like sheep wool but gold really, so he had to go to this other king. And he had a daughter, that's the princess, and she was called Medea. They say she was even related to the gods! Anyway, Jason came and the princess Medea fell in love with him." Phil gave that grin-smirk of his. "Some say that Hera made her fall in love with Jason, and some people say it was...Aphrodite!"

There, he figured a name drop of Venus's greek name would catch Dol's interest.

"You mean the nice Goddess who restored me to life?" His eyes lit up at the mention of Aphrodite. "She is in this story!? That is so cool! So... she made them fall in love? he did not court her?"

Stories weren't clear on that point, but Phil saw no problem with a little embellishment for the sake of a tale. "Yep, she made them fall in love! Well you see, to get the golden fleece, Jason had to finish some tasks, like Argo's father Hercules had to! But they were really hard, and if you don't know what you're doing you're going to mess up and get killed. So Medea was all 'I'll help you finish the tasks Jason, if you take me with you on your adventures and marry me!'. And Jason knew he needed help, and she was pretty, and a goddess made her fall in love with him so he agreed to take her on his next adventures and marry her! And guess what? Medea was related to the gods, and even to Circe! So she knew..." Phil grinned and leaned in to whisper to Dolomeck. "Magic!"

"Magic? His eyes grew wider as he began to listen more intently to the tale. So far, it sounded like the tales Venus told him before bedtime. Phil was making the story sound amazing, that he had Dolemeck on the edge of his seat, quite literally as well as figuratively. "So what happens next!"

"Well, like Hercules, Jason has tasks to do! First, Jason has to put a collar on the fire-breathing oxen! Because you couldn't plow a field without oxen. Jason is pretty mortal, but the princess gives him a magic spread so that even the oxen's mighty fire can't burn him! But that's not all..." Phil grins, as he tells the tale his voice gets louder and quieter where appropriate, building up the dramatic parts. He was a kid, but he could do exciting scary stories.

"He had to sow the field. Not with seeds, nope he had to sow it with the teeth of...a dragon!" Phil jumped off his seat and made a roaring face. "Dragon teeth are special you know, really special, even in old greek stories. And anything with dragon's stuff involved is never easy right?"

"Aye... nothing that involves a dragon is ever easy." Phil was quite the story teller. He was as entertaining to watch just like his Mum. He would even act out parts at times. Dolemeck held on to Mr. Beanie as he continued to listen to the tales that Phil spin about Jason's journey and quest for his kingdom. "What happens next?"

Phil smiled happily, glad he had an audience, he loved telling scary stories to a raptured audience.

"Well...when you put dragon's teeth into the ground what happens is...an army of soldiers rises from the ground to kill you!" He loved those scary parts, and a dark happy grin sprouted on his face. "But without the princess Medea, he'd be dead now, for she knew this would happen, and told him to throw a great rock in the middle of the army! So he did, and the army became confused, for they didn't know where the rock was from. And they lept and attacked each other, killing themselves until every single last one lay dead upon the field..." He let that sink into Dolomeck's mind before continuing with another hook to keep him from being too scared of the story just yet.

"The next task was to slay the Great Sleepless Dragon! Dragon stories may be big in your time, but there were dragons in greek myth too. And this one that Jason had to fight and slay, he guarded the very golden fleece that Jason so wanted!"

This story was becoming violent, and even a little bloody! But Those were bad guys, so Jason had to do something to stay alive, after-all. Dolemeck continued to watch Phil tell this story with much glee. Never had he seen Phil so happy to tell him something, before.

"So how did he battle the sleepless dragon?"

Phil was in an excellent mood in general, and seemed genuinely in his element. "Well he was smart about it, or...Medea was. She knew her father would make Jason face the great sleepless dragon, so...she decided to prove the name false! And she cooked up a magic potion and gave it to Jason, so when he met the great dragon in battle, he sprayed the magic potion about and soon the Great Sleepless Dragon...was no longer sleepless."

He smiled and started walking, beckoning Dolomeck to follow him as they started their way home again.

Dolemeck was having a sleep-over at Phil's house this eve, so he followed Phil about, almost like a duckling behind it's mother.

"So the potion made the dragon sleep? Wow! That must have been something really powerful! Never have I heard of potions being able to make dragon's sleep!"

Phil proudly led the way, smile still on his face as he did so.

"It did! Medea was a very smart sorceress and she was great at planning stuff! And made powerful potions. But just because Jason got the golden fleece doesn't mean this story is over you know..."

"You mean after he got the golden fleece more happened? I thought he would marry Medea and live happily ever after as King!" Dolemeck had no clue what he was stepping into by asking to hear more of this story. His green, cat like eyes were wide with wonder, and he was smiling as he enjoyed Phil's story telling... for now, anyway.

"Oh no, you see he still had to go back to his kingdom to try and reclaim it. But remember his promise to Medea...that he'd take her with him and marry her. Well...her father, the king who'd made him do all these tasks did not want to let go of his daughter...not at all. He was going to hunt Jason down, kill him and retrieve his daughter."

Phil lowered his voice to a whisper, as if sharing a secret with Dolomeck that nobody else knew. "Do you know what happens to people who die in greek myth?"

"Well...everyone goes to Hades, but a soul that never passes onto there is a terrible thing in their culture. And the only way to make sure a soul moves onto the underworld is to be sure to bury the body. So if your friend dies you have to bury him. It's very very important, other heroes had to go back on their journeys to make sure their friends' souls weren't forever stuck," he whispered before moving back to normal volume to continue the story.

"Maybe not...maybe yes. You'll find out. But Jason took Medea with him as he sailed off, and she brought along her younger brother. The father was furious and he sent his whole fleet of ships after them! But Jason had Medea, and Medea was clever, she'd come prepared for this...and she used a very simple trick. Didn't even need magic this time. Do you know what she did?"

"Souls... lost forever..." Now Dolemeck was worried about the family from his era. He had no clue if they were buried properly or not. He grew even more pale. Things were now taking a more frightening turn than expected.

"No... I... I do not know what she did. What did she do?"

Phil leaned in again, his voice dropping to a whisper of the most sinister kind. "What she did was...she took her little brother...and cut him into pieces. And threw the pieces of his body one by one into the great ocean. Bit. By. Bit. And aaaaall the ships of the king's fleet had to stop the chase so they could try and fish the pieces of the little brother's body out of the water...before the sea creatures found them or they sunk to the bottom. For if they missed even one piece....his soul would be stuck between worlds...for eternity."

Dolemeck's eyes started to water up, and then, well... he began to cry. The young lad was nearly blubbering over the tale Phil was telling him.

"That's... that's terrible *He sniffles*" How... how could anyone do that to someone! Not even my brother Charles was that mean to deny me a proper burial if I died... w-wahhhh!"

Phil nearly laughed, his horror story was going well! "But your brother Charles wouldn't murder you and cut you up into little pieces first would he?"

He took Dolomeck's hand and tugged it to keep the other boy walking along. "But Jason was just about to get to the part of the story where he goes to his old kingdom to try and reclaim his throne!" Okay, no not quite, but he was willing to skip ahead to that part of the story for the sake of storytelling. Liberties with storytelling weren't a terrible thing.

Dolemeck was still crying, clutching his stuffed cat in one arm, while Phil dragged him along with the other. He was still crying, even as Phil continued with the story. He felt so sad for Medea's brother. To be betrayed like that!

Even young Dolemeck had vague memories of his brother Charles being mean and betraying him... but no clue as to why or how.

"Now now, you can't cry when we're not even at the end! All heroes who are supposed to be kings must go reclaim their kingdom right? Well, I'll tell you what happened when they got to his homeland. Perhaps he'll be King after all and live happily ever after. Wanna find out?"

"You have to listen to find out!" Phil continued walking to his place and keeping hold of Dolomeck's hand as he did so. "Now while the king they'd just escaped was the one who'd had the golden fleece in his kingdom, the current king of Jason's kingdom was the one who'd sent him on that quest. It was such a dangerous quest that the king had sent him on the quest expecting him to die! But he didn't, Jason returned victorious with the golden fleece. But the king who sat on Jason's throne would not give the throne back. What was he to do?"

"He just did! And nobody gives stuff back like that, not kingdoms at least."

"Ah, well instead of the prince rescuing the princess....the princess rescues Jason yet again. See, the current king had a few daughters, and he was an old king, and his daughters wanted the best for him. So one day...they came across Medea cooking something in a pot! For she was like a witch, and they might've heard rumours...so she told them to stay and see how she could bring back youth. What they saw was this: Medea took an old ram, and she cut it up! Just like she had her brother. Except this time she put the pieces in the boiling pot...and stirred, and soon...a miracle happened! A young ram sprang from the pot! A miracle of youth!"

He grinned happily, for this part seemed positive. Making people younger and all. "So the daughters rushed to their father, for they really loved him a lot and wanted the best for him. He was really old you see, and perhaps they could make him young again! Like the ram!"

He lowered his voice now as he continued. "But you see...Medea hadn't told them everything. So...the daughters took their father and cut him up into pieces. They put him in a boiling pot just like Medea had...and waited for a younger father to pop out. And waited. And waited. But...they were not Medea. And all they had done...was just murder their father."

Dolemeck once more was in shock over such a gruesome tale. Once again, Phil caused him to start crying. What a horrific tale! How could Phil think this was something so wonderful to tell, or even like!? This was nothing like the tales Venus told him! This was horrible!

He opened the door to his place when they got there. "And since Medea was his wife, upon hearing about what happened, both Jason and Medea were banished from his kingdom and told never ever to return! And so Jason was chased away from the kingdom he should've ruled, never to return or rule it ever."

Phil grinned back at Dolomeck. "We're here! And don't worry, there's more of the story, he and Medea do live elsewhere and have kids, but that's another story if you want to hear."
