If James was honest, he was a little nervous about how this was going to go. His parents weren't going to be happy about him being naked in Witch Weekly and probably now wasn't the best time to introduce them to Cepheus, but it wasn't like Cepheus had somewhere else to go. He was mad at his family for lying to him. And school was just... James didn't want to go back to school and he hadn't just learned his father wasn't who he thought it was.

He left Cepheus downstairs after he heard his parents come home, walking downstairs and clearing his throat. "So... Have you seen Witch Weekly yet?" he asked, rubbing the back of his neck and giving them his best get-out-of-trouble look.

Had they seen the witch weekly yet? Harry wondered how his son could even ask that question. "Who hasn't seen it?" He asked, giving his son a concerned look. "I've tried to have the story pulled as it is, but they're not buying."

He stood and put a hand on his son's shoulder. "How did this happen?"

"I think Cepheus's dad is some kind of lawyer, so maybe he can help." James glanced at his mother, who looked... kind of mad and green around the gills at the same time. It wasn't a great look for her.

"We went out and apparently there was a photographer there." James gave his father his best smile. "It was an honest mistake, Dad. We're teenagers."

"Your father and I were teenagers too and this never happened to us," Ginny said, getting to her feet. "James, what were you thinking? You could have destroyed your chances of getting into the league with this. They're very serious about this sort of thing. I wouldn't blame the Malfoys for being furious with you." Even if she could remember Pansy Malfoy being wrapped in a similar scandal. "He's your brother's friend, James."

"He's my boyfriend, Mum. I swear," James said, holding his hands up defensively. "He's not like the other boys. Look, just -- I know I messed up, okay? I'm sorry."

"You did more than mess up. You showed yourself publicly, James." Harry informed the boy with a heavy sigh. "We know that you're a high priority for the papers. We only wish that you wouldn't ruin your chances at your dream by doing these things with the Malfoy. He's almost as high priority as our family. They're always looking for something bad to say about us."

"I won't do it again," James said, looking at his father. At least this couldn't go worse than Cepheus's confrontation with his parents. He knew he belonged to them. They couldn't spring adoption on him. "It was stupid. I know that. I'm sorry."

He looked between his parents. "Look, Cepheus had a big row with his parents over the photos and I brought him here so... so you can yell at me all you want, but please don't kick us out or tell him he needs to go home or something."

"You what?" Ginny gave James in incredulous look. "James, I don't think you're listening to anything we say. The papers are even more interested because it's the two of you together. You really couldn't have chosen anyone worse. His parents might be angry, but I'm sure they'll forgive him. You two would be better off cooling down avoiding all this separately."

Cepheus had heard the conversation with James's parents. He stepped inside the room where they were having the argument, giving them a sad and pathetic look. He thought it would work best for him in this situation.

"I'm very sorry about this." Cepheus told the both of them, wringing his hands a bit with worry. "My father and I... Well. We've never seen eye to eye on things. And some new situations have been brought to light to me, some I don't think I can explain. And... I can't go home right now."

James was sort of glad Cepheus had never used that face on him before. He found himself going to the other boy's side and touching his hands anyway. "Of course they're not going to make you go. They wouldn't send you back there." He looked back at his parents. "Right?"

Ginny hesitated, looking at Cepheus Malfoy, with his big puppy dog eyes and his messy curls. He was different from the others, wasn't he? He'd been Sorted into Gryffindor with Albus. Even if she'd never really understood Albus's friendship with the Malfoys, or Charlie's... thing with Draco Malfoy, that didn't mean they all had to be lumped together.

She sighed. "Of course not," she said. "You can stay, Cepheus, but... it might be best if you stayed in Albus's room while you're here. I'm sure he won't mind."

James didn't like that. "Mum, it's not like the whole world doesn't already know we're having sex. And it's not like either of us is in the mood to fool around. Can you blame us for wanting to be close right now? Cepheus is really upset and I'm sure I'm going to start hearing from teams soon and then I'll be really upset."

"No. It's okay, Jam." Cepheus shook his head and nodded at Ginny, noticing the look Harry Potter was giving him in the corner. He chewed at his bottom lip and then gave James a weak smile. "Your parents are going to let me stay here and that's something they don't even have to do. We should respect their wishes."

Harry was giving Ginny a look as well. "Yes. I think sleeping in Albus's room is a better idea."

Ginny had been weakening so she was glad Harry was holding firm. She nodded. "Good," she said. "It's settled. I'm sure if Cepheus's parents come looking for him they'll feel the same way about the two of you having separate rooms, Jamie." She touched her oldest son's hair.

James nodded. They could always sneak around once his parents were asleep. "Course, Mum. You're right." He linked his hand with Cepheus's. "Phe's a good influence on me, see? I'm the one who dragged him into this mess." He sighed, looking at Cepheus. "At least this happened after we figured everything out, right?"

Cepheus looked up at James and laughed. "Someone has to be a good influence on you." He told him and then looked at Ginny. "I can help around the house while you're gone. I've never actually... had to do it. But, I could help you cook. Perhaps you could teach me a few things."

Harry continued to frown at James. "We'll let you know if any of the scouts call."

Ginny laughed at how earnest Cepheus looked. "I like the idea of putting you two to work while you're here," she said. "Harry and I both work during the day. James can show you the ropes. He's half-Weasley. He knows his way around a kitchen."

James looked at his father for a moment, then sighed. "I figure it's Puddlemere gone for sure," he said, lowering his voice again so he didn't upset Cepheus. "They just had that scandal with their Keeper. They don't need someone else coming in with stuff like this attached to them. The Arrows too, since they're all about how clean-cut their team is. Everyone else... I don't know. I know all their offers are going to go lower, just because they can now. But I'm really good, Dad. The pictures will blow over and I'll still be good."

"Does he? He must have hated the lunch I made for him." Cepheus laughed a bit at that. "Albus is doing well, by the way. His next concert is for Easter. Are the two of you coming this time?"

Harry gave his son a disappointed look. "I think most of your options are going to be off the table. Or you'll barely get paid. What if this doesn't blow over? His mother barely made it out of hers."

"Did you cook for him?" Ginny thought that was sweet, even if she'd honestly prefer that James ended up with someone more... grounded than a Malfoy. Maybe she just to stop prejudging them just because they were insanely rich. She'd just keep telling herself Cepheus was a Gryffindor. "I'm sure he was just happy you cared enough to make him food. We'll come if Albus invited us. Sometimes I think he's embarrassed about his parents being there."

James was really trying to be positive about his prospects. Talent had to count for something, right? "There's always the European League," he pointed out. "They're less fussed about this stuff, and if I played for Portugal or something for a few years then I could come back and play in England. If I barely get paid... I don't care as long as I get to play, Dad. Wouldn't you still be an Auror if the money was shit?"

"I think you should go anyway. To show him you support him." Cepheus shook his head. "My father never comes to anything that I'm involved in. He's always busy with things. I know I'd like him to be there." He shrugged. "Sometimes you have to do things your kids don't like."

And then he thought about what he'd said and sighed. Draco had did what he did because he felt he had to. "Sometimes parents are the only reasons kids turn out alright."

"Having a good job is always something to strive for. Having the money is always good too." Harry pointed out. "You know how I grew up. I had nothing. Having nothing is never an option."

Ginny smiled at Cepheus. He was a good boy, despite who his parents were. At least he wasn't as... Malfoy looking as the other one. "If you want to use our Floo or our owl to tell your parents anything, you're welcome to at any time. There are probably some old things of James and Albus's that you can borrow while you're here."

"Yeah, well, lucky I decided to fall for a rich boy then, isn't it?" James asked, shrugging. "It's too late for me to do anything about the teams now, Dad. It's done."

Cepheus gave Ginny a sad look. "I'm afraid I can't talk to them right now." He admitted quietly and then shrugged. "I'll give it a few days before I even owl. They're probably angry with me."

Harry looked back at James with disapproval and shook his head, walking off from him.

"I'm sure they'll forgive you once they cool down," Ginny said, touching Cepheus's shoulder. "It was probably a shock to them. Harry and I know James... doesn't always think things through very clearly."

James felt like yelling at his father or telling him off for being such a dick, but that would just get him in even more trouble. He wrapped an arm around Cepheus instead, trying to ignore how annoyed he felt. "His dad knows I was bringing him here," he told his mother. "He told me to look after him."

"I was no help in the situation. I don't regret loving your son, but I regret ruining his life." Cepheus sighed softly, feeling himself break a little as tears filled his eyes. "I'm sorry. I should go up to Albus's room now."

"Cepheus, come on." James pulled him closer, frowning down at the other boy. "I'm not a rubbish enough boyfriend to let you go cry by yourself," he whispered. "You didn't ruin my life. I was there too."

Ginny watched the two boys for a moment, then touched James's hair and kissed his forehead. "I'm going to go Floo some of my old friends in the league and see if I can salvage the situation," she said. "You two go upstairs and get some rest. The same room is fine if you leave the door open."

"Thanks, Mum," James said, giving her a tight smile. He looked down at Cepheus. "My room?" he suggested. "If we're going to be miserable we might as well be miserable in sweatpants."

Cepheus looked up at James and sighed softly. "I'm depressed, but I'm not that depressed." He paused and glanced around. "You wouldn't happen to know if your parents keep cheesecake as handy as my mother does, do you?"

James laughed a little. "I'm that depressed," he said. "And I don't really feel like wearing my uniform for the rest of the day. I can't fucking believe my dad. Just because he's Mr. Perfect he thinks the rest of us shouldn't ever make a mistake."

He took Cepheus's hand and let him into the kitchen. "We don't have cheesecake, but my grandmum makes the best biscuits. She -- does she ever send any to your house with Charlie? Sometimes I forget about that."

"Not really. She's never really approved of him being with Draco." Cepheus pointed out as he looked up at James. "I don't want to be in the kitchen right now. I just want to go to your room and cuddle. I wonder if I could order a cheesecake..."

James laughed a little. "We could figure something out," he said. "There's got to be someone we can get to get cake for us." He led Cepheus up the stairs, back towards his room. "My parents are probably going to bicker about what a disappointment I am for a bit anyway."

He sighed, starting to pull his uniform off when they got to his room. "If it was next year we'd be able to hide in my flat and order cheesecake delivered there."

"I may get lucky and my mother will decide she doesn't hate me so much and send me one." Cepheus told him with a sigh. He stripped off his shirt and fell onto the bed, looking up at James.

"I'm sorry." He told him, then pushed the pillow over his face. "I'm a fuck up."

"Stop it," James said, pulling on a t-shirt and a pair of sweats. He crawled onto the bed next to Cepheus and kissed his neck. "You should maybe put on one of my shirts. My dad's head will explode if he finds you in my bed naked."

He pulled the pillow off Cepheus's face. "Right now, I'm just annoyed," James said. "I don't want to think about teams pulling their offers. I just want to concentrate on being with you, okay?"

Cepheus looked up at James with a sigh, then took the shirt and pulled it on. "We're together. I'm with you. We don't have to concentrate about it." He told him, then kissed him softly and pulled him a little closer. He kissed James's neck, then curled up against him.

"Just tell me you love me." Cepheus whispered, looking up at him. "But, only if you mean it."

James looked down at Cepheus for a moment and then smiled. "Course I do," he said, running his fingers through the other boy's curls. "Don't be daft. You think I'd take possibly losing Quidditch this well over anyone other than you?"

He kissed him softly. "I love you," he said. "Now you tell me."

"Of course I love you. If I didn't, I wouldn't be here right now." Cepheus replied, sliding his hand beneath James's shirt, feeling his muscles against his fingertips. He kissed him softly, nuzzling against him for a moment, then pulled back.

"I don't want your parents to hate me." Cepheus told him with a sigh. "I'd like to not have another reason for our families to be distant, like your grandmum and my Dad Charlie."

"I thought you did a pretty good job with my mum," James told Cepheus, smiling a bit and kissing him again. "The separate rooms thing was genius. You're this perfect little angel I'm corrupting now. Besides, you're a Gryffindor and you look more like your mum than -- than a Malfoy, so that'll help. Plus, you and Al have been friends for forever."

He thought about his father for a moment and then sighed. "Unless you can convince me to become an Auror like my father wants, then he'll probably be a bit of a dick for a while."

"I could probably convince you to do anything when you're in my mouth." Cepheus pointed out with a laugh, looking up at the ceiling. "But, I'd never try to convince you to do something that wouldn't make you happy. I'm not that bad of a boyfriend."

"Good, because your mouth is devilish," James said, laughing too. "Anyway, as soon as you weren't blowing me I'd remember that my love for Quidditch is as strong and vast as the ocean so your jaw would get awfully tired after a while."
