Textbook Shopping
"I think that's the last of them," Danielle said quietly as her sister pulled another science textbook off a high shelf at the ESU bookstore. Danielle looked over the list of recommendations that Granny and Doctor McCoy had suggested she read, and confirmed that she was right about their thoroughness.

"All right," Moira said, the large stack balanced on one hand as they head towards the lady with the little machine at the counter. "You've got the card?"

"Aye."
Shopping was still so odd.

Andy walked into the ESU bookstore, looking over the list of books he would need for Summer term. The particular science book he was seeking should be...down that aisle right there.

He headed down said aisle for the book he was seeking...only to find the last copy on the shelf in a young woman's hands. She had a stack of books as well. Maybe, just maybe, she wasn't looking for his.

"Excuse me? Were you going to buy that?" he asks, trying on a charming smile.

	"Yes, I did need a copy, but you ladies were here first. No worries. I talk to the clerk up from and see when they expect more." he says, smiling at Danielle. 	"Och, no, go ahead," Moira glances at it as she offers it to him politely. "Nothing urgent on our parts." She smiles and looks between him and Danielle. "Organic chemistry...that means chemistry when they dinna use fertilizers, aye?" Danielle laughs softly. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Andy can't help it. Between the cute accent and the joke, he lets out a bark of laughter that he quickly tones down.

"Are you sure? I really don't want to take a book you need, but if you don't mind parting with it, I'd be grateful. I meant to be in here before today, but my vacation ran a little long and now I'm racing the clock before Monday." he says.

He takes the offered book and thanks both women. "Look, please don't take this as some kind of crazy come-on, but can I buy you two a cup of coffee or something? I want to say thank you for helping me out, but I don't feel like a simple 'thank you for helping me out' will suffice." he says.

"Moira Hrimharisdottir. Danielle Hrimharisdottir." Andy says slowly, making sure he can say their names properly. Something about those names tickles something in the back of his mind, but he can't place it yet.

"My name is Andy Walters. Pleased to meet you." he says, offering a hand to shake, after he switches the book to his other hand.

"Like I said, I should have been here earlier, but it didn't work out. Are you two just starting at ESU or returning students? I notice the accents, and I was curious.

Oh, and where would you two like to go for coffee?" he asks.

And they each shake in a friendly -- and firm-- fashion. Moira's grip is a little stronger, but Danielle's is still moreso than one would guess from looking at her. "Nice to meet ye, Andy."

"Och, this is just a tryout thing," Danielle says a little sheepishly. "Never done that much formal education."
"And it's all for Danielle," Moira adds. "I'm just accompanying."

The sisters exchange smiles, then look at Andy still smiling. "And we dinna know a thing about American coffee, really. A whole year in America and never really had it," Moira says.

He notes the firm handshakes and nods appreciatively.

"Well, if you're coming to ESU, I think you'll like it. Campus life is pretty cool and there's always something going on." he says.

"Don't feel bad. I've spent most of my life in a America and every new latte or espresso they come out with confuses me more than the last. I'm sure it does that to most Americans, too." he chuckles.

"Cafe Blue is just down the street. I can walk you there once you're both ready to check out." he says, looking between them.

	At Cafe Blue, Andy gets the ladies a table, and asks them if there's anything they'd like. If nothing immediately springs to mind from the menu, he'll try to help a little. 	"We've always enjoyed our times there, though it's not the only place we're from," Moira says. "We'd really recommend it." They both nod. "It's been very eventful," Danielle says. Andy nods, sipping his drink, as the ladies talk. America is a great place, for all the flaws people tend to point out about it.

Moira mentions a boyfriend and Andy nods, his suspicion confirmed. Something about Moira's vibe sensed that she was taken, and Andy expected Danielle to also put out that she was taken...

so he was surprised when she pointed out she wasn't.

"Well, looks like fortune smiles on one lucky man, and waits to smile on another." Andy smiles.

Did you really just say that?

Yeah, I did.

He clears his throat. "How are your drinks?" he asks, trying to shift the topic away from where it might be presumed that he's trying to hit on Danielle.

"Same here. I'm in no hurry. My mom might want to have dinner tonight, if she's not in court or anything. Haven't seen her since I came home." he says.

He's pleasantly surprised that there hasn't been a hold-up, or a mugging, or an alien invasion since the three of them sat down. He's been present for all three of those occurrences at one time or another in his life, and he'd hate to have to end this discussion to go pound on a criminal.

"I hear Westchester's a pretty nice place. Never been, but that's what I hear. Are you enjoying it there?" he says.

"I was in Greece with my father and some of my extended family. We were near the mountains and had a great time. Saw some of the old temples and things, really got in touch with that part of my heritage." Andy says. Though he's banned from Olympus itself, there are still places he can go and enjoy himself for a time.

"I love lakes, so that sounds pretty amazing. I don't like being inside if I can help it, either. In Greece, I did a lot of helping out on farms and such, and just walking around." he says.

"Do you two have other siblings? And I have to ask which one of you is the elder?" he queries.

"I'm going to guess and say...Moira."

"Oh, that sounds so nice," Danielle says. "It's good to be able to be with family. One of the troubles of this past year, which they certainly have been despite the good parts, is that we've only been able to see Mummy and Da and the littles twice."

They both grin at his guess. "I am the eldest, aye," Moira says. "Though only by a few minutes."

"It's nice that ye always say 'only', instead of 'Let it not be forgotten that I am six minutes older,' as Douglas does with the littles," Danielle tells her warmly.

Andy notes the closeness between the sisters and wishes he had something like it with his own brother. Granted, he and Argo aren't complete strangers, but they come from two different worlds.

"I've got an older brother myself." Andy says. "We don't see each other much, but we get along, mostly."

"Do you two come into town often? Maybe the next time you're around and I'm around, we can all hang out again?" he asks.

	"I told him I'd go visit, soon. He wants to take me on a tour of the city and said something about meeting some friends of his down there." Andy says. Andy smiles at Danielle. "Then it's a...plan.
