Audrey's room, for obvious reasons, didn't have any windows. Sometimes (even more than others) it felt like a prison. During the day, she would often lie awake, unable to sleep, staring at those walls, trying to remember what the sun had felt like. Really, she had no other vampires to which to compare herself so she had no idea if that was normal or not.
She'd been a vampire for three years. She remembered vividly the day that the man had finally taken her into the lab. She'd been excited, hoping that he was finally going to do to her what he'd done to her sister. Then they would be the same and everything would go back to making sense. She wouldn't feel so alone. But it hadn't worked out like that. The man's plan had been entirely different and forced Audrey to become something that felt painfully the opposite of what he'd done to her twin.
Languishing in her room, she could feel the sun set and she knew that it was safe to get up and wander about the house. She looked at the calendar on her wall. No appointments with the master of the house, the man responsible for all of this. For awhile, in her early childhood, she remembered thinking of him as her father, but she'd grown out of that.
